Church in Canada: Campaign for Life and Against Secularism

(Ottawa) hardly noticed by the Catholic public is a major confrontation between Catholic faithful on the one hand and modernist shepherds and their secular apparatus found in Canada on the other.
This is particularly striking, since Canada was once upon a time, despite being long problematic, a fertile area for the Roman Catholic Church.
In the East, for more than four centuries of French-speaking Catholic presence there were many great missionaries, including many Jesuits, many martyrs, there was active missionary activity and deep roots in the French-Canadian population.
In the western part of  Anglophone Canada there is a strong presence of immigrants from Catholic countries with strong influences from the United States and Great Britain, both religious and typical characteristics as usually occurs through contact and dealing with Anglican and Protestant denominations.

Blooming Church under Pressure

Over the past 50 years, this structure was put under  very severe stress, such as is well documented on the website www.dici.org.
In the French-speaking areas,  a vast laicization of  the population occurred. The 2nd Vatican Council and its local "implementation" ensured a huge disorientation among the local clergy and the absence of substance and liturgical debauchery brought great alienation underway of the original  majority portion of the devout Catholic population of the Church.
Many churches, including cathedrals are closed, sold, profaned, often demolished. Nevertheless, the main activity of many now numerically very small dioceses (up to 8,000 believers) appears to be combating the Society of St. Pius X  (as it is now in the diocese of Chicoutimi, where the bishop has never had a zeal for new evangelization.)

Sanctuary Oratory of Saint-Joseph du Mont-Royal Montreal (1937 under construction)
Since believers have thus organized a visit by a priest of the SSPX there in Saguenay, nerves are on edge. First, in the journey was  the  visitation of the aging Augustinian monastery where a 90 year old nun almost collapsed with joy, because for after over half a century, at last there was a Catholic priest in cassock at the door (so much for the ordinary pastoral care).
Second, Father has celebrated a Mass in the traditional rite on 15 February 2015, which caused a lot of interest among the people thirsting for religion, but in the diocese, it lead to the worst threats and has led to imprecations  not to participate in this.
A very strange reaction, the secularization in the French-speaking Quebec once the most Catholic place  in the world, with a 95% decline of practicing Catholics  from 1965 to now. Many religious retreat, or merge with the Anglo-Canadian brothers and sisters. Consider as a particularly significant example since the once very great and proud Jesuit province of Quebec had its own  seminary  in the English Jesuit province of Canada.

Evaporation of the Catholic Order

The Canadian  Conference of Religious  numbers at the moment its number of communities / religious houses to 200, with approximately 16,000 members, of whom 94 percent were older than 60 years and not less than 50 percent were older than 80 years!
In Anglo Canada, however, the Roman Catholics are significantly closer to their faith and Catholic doctrine   with her younger tradition of immigration (Irish, Italians, Spaniards, Portuguese, Filipinos). The members are on average younger and there is also a higher percentage of young religious.
At the same time there, through, the neighborhood with the USA and by a common language, close contacts and similar conduct cause problems and threats. The clergy and the bishops especially, are usually  very progressive and very interested in dialogue and understanding of the world. Also some orders with a focus in Canada are very modernist leaning: particularly known here are the "Basilian Fathers".

Secularization pressure by the State

For several years, an aggressive campaign for the right to abortion, gender, for early and rabid sex education in schools and the special feature of the man-woman-child family is now run by the secular state, very similar to the US and in France. In contrast, strong protest has developed, for example by the Campaign for Life Coalition, by PAFE (Parents as Educators First) by REAL Women of Canada.  Legally, they fight their way through with the CCRL (Catholic Civil Rights League) against the paternalism of the state.
The bishops, however, has surrendered long ago. Cardinal Thomas Collins of the Archdiocese of Toronto, to dialogue with the world and avoid conflicts and understanding modernity, announced recently in the statement: "Schools have a responsibility to teach the curriculum set out by the Ministry of Education" (Schools have an obligation to inform the curriculum of the Ministry of Education). He thus revealed the identity of the free Catholic schools.

Surrender of the bishops, opposition of parents

The secular state justifies itself that the Institute of Catholic Education had (founded in 1986 by the Episcopal Conference) demanded this and  (occupied by progressive loving people) a committee has given its consent by Cardinal Collins' feedback and advice. "
Meanwhile, tens of thousands of parents have signed a protest petition to the government and to the Canadian episcopate.
There are very detailed and engaged reports on the internet. The website www.LifeSiteNews.com has provided an extensive article and linked it with the statement of Cardinal Robert Sarah: "Detaching pastoral practice from catholic doctrine is a dangerous schizophrenic pathology." The statement comes from the book "Dieu ou Rien" (God or Nothing) by Cardinal Sarah, published in Paris by Fayard, from the strange to say disappearing of the previously mentioned foreword by Pope em. Benedict XVI. (see separate report ).

Feeble episcopate

The Synod of Bishops on the Family 2015 is awaited in Catholic Canada with the eyes of Argus.
Much attention was given an obscene insult upon Cardinal Raymond Burke on 7 February 2015, produced by Father Timothy Scott, the longtime spokesman for the Basilian Fathers . Only after massive protests was the tweet deleted on 22 February 2015. To date, it is unknown whether this priest continues as a spokesman for the Basilian Fathers. This order  only offered  a short "Sorry too".
The Canadian episcopate is silent (as the French episcopate is in the Manif pour Tous and the Veilleurs ). From the Vatican you can hear nothing.

Abuse scandal

A particularly explosive situation in Canada is  related to some of the largest and most heinous mass abuse cases in the Church took place here. A native of West Flanders, Oblate missionary Eric Dejaegher was sentenced to a very long prison sentence just as the end of January 2015. Another hearing  against him will take place in Edmonton Alberta. At the St. Joseph's College in Edmonton, incidentally, the aforementioned Father Timothy Scott was rector.
Many diocese have come to penury because of  large payments of compensation for abuses by church representatives.  In 2013 the closing reports of two churches in the Archdiocese of Antigonish were due to financial problems that involved giving compensation.

See the current picture

Highly sensitized and motivated militant believers; serious wrongdoing within the church; fundamental threat to the Church's teaching; Contempt and obscenity against brave reputable cardinals; feeble shepherds, articulated for the world spirit; serious financial problems and pastoral withdrawal across a broad front. In Canada, there seems to be no longer a local skirmish engagement before the main argument. Instead, here is already an enormous pitched battle in a minefield.

Luxury Apartments Instead of Churches in New York

(Washington) Fewer churches, more houses. Even luxury homes. Something like this could  be  the motto of estate agents in New York. The real estate market of New York is booming. Although the eight million inhabitants, only grows to a more modest degree, about 0.2 percent each year, but the demand for housing remains strong. More and more single households and higher demand will be satisfied. So real estate speculators eagerly spy for the churches of the city. Numerous churches are risking soon to be demolished to make way for luxury condominiums.
Some are already gone. Thus the Church of Saint Vincent de Paul of Williamsburg in Brooklyn. She was sold, according to USA Today, for 13.8 million dollars. Today there is a building there with 40 apartments. Each of them can be rented at the price of 4,250-5,500 dollars a month. Another example is the Church of Mary Help of Christians in the East Village. Soon the church of Our Lady of Vilnius in Lower Manhattan at the entrance to the Holland Tunnel connecting New York and New Jersey. For them, a $13 million price was paid. In their place, a 18-storey residential building is to be built.

Rising costs, declining demand

Church of Our Lady of Vilnius will soon be discontinued
In the Upper East Side, the Church of Our Lady of Peace should belong to the demolition of candidates. The Church was built in 1886 by the German-American community, and was later became the home of Italians . It is located in a historic part of the city. The church facade is a listed building. No problem for the real estate industry. The facade will be preserved behind a modern building with luxury apartments. The historic façade will bring  a special flair to the living space of future owners.
Just one kilometer away  the Church of Saint Thomas More could be demolished. It is the church which was visited by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. There, the memorial service for her murdered husband, US President John F. Kennedy took place.
Reason for the feverish pursuit of  churches by the real estate industry is the announcement of the Archdiocese of New York, to merge parishes and close some churches  by year end. This is due to rising maintenance costs, shortage of priests and decline of practicing believers. Archbishop Timothy Dolan, Cardinal, announced that his archdiocese will no longer spend $ 40 million to maintain the parishes that do not need it.

Pope Assigns Another Controversial Ordinary to a Major Archdiocese

Edit: Old Liberal "crux now" can barely contain its enthusiasm for the next seamless garment, Bernardin, "moderate" appointment by the allegedly misunderstood Pope Bergoglio.

The new ordinary of San Diego was consecrated by Archbishop George Hugh Niederauer, who retired  with his partner, Cardinal Levada, to a cute residence in Long Beech, California, just outside of Los Angeles, as Pope Benedict's retirement played out.  The average cost of a home in Long Beech is a little less than half-a-million dollars.

Meanwhile, Whispers in the Loggia believes this appointment will be difficult for military retirees and military personnel in San Diego, since he's a peacenik who writes for "America".

[Crux] Robert W. McElroy, an auxiliary bishop in San Francisco and a leader in the Catholic Church’s social justice wing, will be named to head of the Diocese of San Diego Tuesday, Crux has learned.
The announcement will be made official Tuesday morning in Rome, with an installation date of April 15. McElroy, 61, has written extensively about the Church’s social justice mission, promoting Catholic engagement with society that places economic and human rights issues on par with abortion and same-sex marriage.
“We are called to see the issues of abortion and poverty, marriage and immigrant rights, euthanasia and war, religious liberty and restorative justice, not as competing alternatives often set within a partisan framework, but as a complementary continuum of life and dignity,” he wrote in America magazine in October 2013.

Quo Vadis: President of German Bishops' Council Wants to Give the Church to Prince of this World

Attempt to take stock after the Spring Plenary Meeting of the German Bishops' Conference. A kath.net commentary by Dr. Michael Schaefer to statements by Cardinal Marx and Bishop Bode

Hildesheim (kath.net) The German bishops and with them German Catholicism have stood against each other for many years in a growing tension. On one side is the felt the compulsion to defend Catholic doctrine within the meaning of the two previous Popes, and on the other hand, the desire to find a place for social development of the nation. This feeling of tension was reinforced by two other factors: one is the persistent depression in the face of accelerating and organizational measures barely glossing over the decline of Church life; on the other hand, the pressure of a predominantly 'reform-oriented' ecclesiastical system.

Ever since the introduction of the so-called dialogue process ("so-called" because it was played out with handpicked representatives of the ecclesiastical establishment largely behind closed doors) it became apparent that the willingness continue to bear the tension described, was on the wane. It suddenly become known by the two family synods in the world Church, that the question of divorced and remarried presented itself in the eyes of many bishops as the opportunity of a pastoral accommodation for one of the "hot potatoes" without making a too substantial shift from the teaching of the Church. It must have become all the harder after the Synod of last autumn in the insight tha a clear "yes" required for the proposed new features, as the promised majority (90% + x) of the world Church, was not possible.

With the Spring Plenary Assembly ended, the bishops have decided, and probably also irreversibly, started to take the bull by the horns. It is now clear that the German episcopate will take in the question of the divorced and remarried quite independently of the Synodal discussions in October in its own way. The battle cry of "We are not branches of Rome" can in make no room for interpretation in this matter.

The bishops should be clear that the "pastoral solution" to the question of the divorced and remarried can only be a beginning of the end for much of Catholic sexual morality. Because this is so in consideration of an oversized ball and chain for all those who want to be on equal footing with the surrounding society. Bishop Bode has with his notification on the necessary evaluation of cohabitation before marriage, a clear indication given that it - and certainly not just him - there there is a mandatory need for a program of increasing acceptance.

One would severely miss the importance of the meeting at Hildesheim, if they confined their views on the question of the divorced and remarried. Cardinal Marx (including obviously preeminent among the potential "dissident" bishops of Regensburg, Passau and Eichstätt) not only brought this issue forth with his brothers, but staged a coup in a major way. "The great history of Christianity is not behind us but before us" - this is not just a pithy statement, but an expression of a quite specific vision.

According to this vision it is from now on that Christianity will not come from the past, to read the tradition, but to design the future "experimentally". Faith cannot "be kept as a treasure", for the Church had rather take in view its upcoming world-historical mission: to be "useful for the unity of the human family." In the globalized world, it needs a religion that would bring together people from different backgrounds and to understand and moderate social tensions associated with the process of globalization. And no religion is better suited for this task than Christianity. "A globalized, universal church in a globalized world."

One can not deny the brilliance of this vision and the optimism with which it is presented.

The church that doesn't take itself too seriously, but is completely absorbed in the service of humanity - doesn't that sound wonderful? What role can it play faced by such tasks, yesterday the mood still hard pressing with facts about church attendance, lack of priests, etc?

The Church as an entirely positive, respectful, understanding, life-companion of individuals in small and humanity at large - does not cut through the Gordian knot of an ailing institution at a stroke? Can not the Church apparatus happily gather again behind its chiefs under this program? An inveterate Philistine who does not follow that and rejects the new epoch! And yet it is probably inevitable that the pathway outlined here is critically examined.

Will the morality of the Catholic Church really be disposed of so easily in questions of human sexuality? How much responsibility will be needed (according to Bishop Bode is now next to Scripture and Tradition as a further theological knowledge source!) Not to interfere with the "real life world of men"? And even if the program falls to the dregs (Fifty Shades of Grey salutations): who in this society is concerned that his sexual practice is calculated and approved by the Catholic Church?

Even more fundamentally, is the now constantly touted contrast between the dented and dirty Church, "out on the street" for the people and the Church, from "within" is thrilled with the pure, but ultimately useless truth would not be an arrant bugbear? Does not just their knowledge of the self stand based on this truth, the Church always enables them to be with us and fills them with a burning desire to bring these people from "outside" to "inside"? Is faith not yet a treasure and should it not be protected very well in a world, whose church assisted unity according to all experience violently opposes it? Can the Church still claim of itself to be the foundation established by the Lord Jesus Christ, if it does not quite specifically give the graces to the people who are entrusted to her alone, to whom the Lord entrusted them alone and whose charge wasn't just the membership of the human family, but is implied by the inclusion in the "Una Sancta"? Can they "live usefully" sub specie aetemitatis without recalling to the people every day, the hard evangelical truths of sin, justice, and to do penance?

And since when has the Church been at all interested in being part of "great historical moments?"

German Catholics will have to ask themselves whether they want to go with the upstream in the last days and the chosen path. Whether for the pottage of lentils, they will accept a "great future as a tool of the unity of the global human family" giving up the principle of the Apostle Paul, "tradidi quod et accepi - I have handed down to you what I have received."

Perhaps there are not so few who will come to the conclusion that: non possumus!

Cardinal Pell Defends Himself Against Accusations of Waste and Luxurious Living

Edit: here we go again.

"The article as regards a discussion between the Holy Father and Cardinal Pell because of the costs of the Secretariat are completely wrong," he was said in a statement on Saturday by the Secretariat.

Vatican City (kath.net/KNA) The head of the Vatican's Secretariat of Economy, Cardinal George Pell, is resisting press reports about overspending on himself and under his authority. "The article as regards a discussion between the Holy Father and Cardinal Pell because of the costs of the Secretariat are completely wrong," he said in a statement on Saturday of the Secretariat.

The report about an alleged conversation between Pell and Francis was "pure fiction". The cost of the equipment of the Secretariat, which started work in March 2014, is open and accessible. Soon the authority with which currently twelve people were working, the Vatican Economic Council, will present its balance sheet in 2014. It is incorrect to assert that Pell lives the high life.

The Italian magazine "L'espresso" had reported on Friday on Pell's alleged excessive expenditure, among other things, the equipment for their offices and facilities, as well as clothing and flights in business class. Pope Francis had criticized Pell for his handling money, according to the newspaper. Accordingly the Australian has spent about a half million euros for the various items of expenditure since July 2014.

On Friday Vatican spokesman Federico Lombardi condemned the reporting of the "L'espresso" as "unworthy and pathetic." On the website of the magazine it was, however stated on Saturday, "we stand by the information of the article and take back anything." (C) 2015 CBA Catholic News Agency. All rights reserved.

Opus Dei's Argentine Chess Move

(Rome) For the first time in its history a Spaniard  will not take a top position in Opus Dei. The election of the new Vicar General of the personal prelature fell to the Argentine Msgr. Mariano Fazio, whom Jorge Mario Bergoglio knows personally. "It's a decision that seems carefully considered in order to strengthen and improve the relationship between the Prelature and Pope Francis," said the Vatican expert Sandro Magister.
In these first two years of the pontificate, the relation between the Pope and Opus Dei has been formally excellent.   This was contributed to by the hearings which were granted Msgr. Carlos Maria Nannei, the predecessor Fazio as vicar of Argentina. In reality, the signals indicated in the exact opposite direction.

No dispensation for beatification - No Opus Dei representative to Synod

The Opus Dei would have liked   the beatification of their second superior,  Msgr. Alvaro del Portillo, in Rome. Portillo was the successor of the founder, St. Josemaria Escriva de Balaguer. However, Pope Francis did not grant a dispensation. Thus, the ceremony was held last September 27  in Madrid, although the new Blessed had spent the last decades of his life in Rome and died there.
It has  also not escaped observers that Pope Francis not summoned on a single  representative of Opus Dei to the synod as experts or auditors for the 2014 Synod of Bishops, although the personal prelature counts many renowned theologians and canonists in its ranks. Since there is no President of a Bishops' Conference and no head of a dicastry  in the Roman Curia which belongs to Opus Dei, the work of God has had no part in the Synod work.
In 2015, the Synod of Bishops things will be different. Among the Synod Fathers elected by the episcopal conferences there are already three representatives of Opus Dei: Archbishop José Gomez of Los Angeles (USA), Archbishop Antonio Arregui Yarza of Guayaquil in Ecuador and Bishop Jaime Fuentes Martín of Minas, Uruguay.

Dismissal of Opus Dei Bishop Livieres of Ciudad del Este

A few days before the start of the Synod of Bishops in 2014  Pope Francis decreed the dismissal of an Opus Dei bishop.  On September 25, it was announced in Rome and Paraguay that Bishop Rogelio Ricardo Livieres Plano, a most outstanding figure, was relieved of the episcopate of the Latin American country, without giving a reason of why his  office was taken.  Bishop Livieres was summoned to Rome  a few days earlier (in his environment, it means you've lured him from his diocese), where he had learned from the media of his dismissal. The statement by the Vatican Press Office, still had given to understand that the faithful bishop disturbed his brother Bishops in  Paraguay.  Since Liviere promoted priestly vocations in contrast to other dioceses  and built  a private seminary for that reason, free of the influence of liberation theology,  he had three times the number of seminarians in a diocese which includes ten percent of Catholics in the country, which is almost three times as many seminarians as all  of the other dioceses. The bishop also promoted the traditional rite. The seminarians were trained in both forms of the Roman Rite. In almost all of the parishes of his diocese the Immemorial Mass of All Ages was celebrated. It's a situation that was unbearable in other parts of the church.  Despite repeated requests to see Pope Francis, he was refused an audience. Since Bishop Livieres did not let his dismissal by the Vatican without comment, he was immediately dropped from Opus Dei.

Weakening of Opus Dei in Peru

In Peru, Opus Dei had suffered bitter defeats. In recent months, two of its prelates were emeritus of age. Neither Archbishop Juan Antonio Ugarte Pérez of Cuzco nor Bishop Jesús Moliné Labarte of Chiclayo were replaced by brothers of the Opus Dei. Although Cardinal Juan Cipriani Thorne  an Opus Dei member is Archbishop of Lima in 1999, he was in contrast to his predecessor never elected President of the Peruvian Bishops' Conference. John Paul II. tried to renew the Peruvian episcopate on Cipriani Thorne and Opus Dei. It was a renewal that got stuck half way and now runs in reverse. With the recent appointment of bishops, the anti-Opus Dei majority was strengthened in the Peruvian episcopate.
Mariano Fazio: El Papa Francisco

Attempts to find favor with Francis

Msgr. Mariano Fazio was appointed to be the new vicar general of the only personal prelature of the Catholic Church, after having been received  last September 30th by Pope Francis. The name of the Argentine prelate was then curiously misspelled  in both the daily bulletin of the Press Office and  in the Osservatore Romano as "Fassio".
Fazio is a Professor of the History of Political Theory at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross of Opus Dei in Rome. He is a long time proven expert in the modern history of ideas. In Argentina it is said that Fazio knows the enemies of the Church and their thinking.
The former Vicar (Upper) of Opus Dei in Argentina wrote right after the choice of the Archbishop of Buenos Aires to be pope, a Francis-book: "El Papa Francisco: Claves de su pensamiento." (Pope Francis The key of his thought). That may have been taken into account in the calculation, that Pope Francis will hopefully be benevolent to the Argentine Fazio. He has not explained, however, the "key" to Bergoglio's thinking  in his book.

Oil Baron Threatens to Destroy Faithful Ordinary of San Francisco

Edit: another layman steps in on behalf of an infernal agenda of secularism.

San Francisco, Calif., Feb 27, 2015 / 05:20 pm (CNA/EWTN News).- Sam Singer’s public relations firm spun a Chevron oil refinery disaster in California and fought back a legal ruling in Ecuador that could have awarded billions of dollars to indigenous people for the company’s alleged pollution damage to the Amazon.
Now he’s been hired to attack San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone. He even wants Pope Francis to do his work.
“Everyone is praying that the Pope will remove the San Francisco Archbishop and these priests,” Singer said in a Google+ post on Feb. 18, Ash Wednesday.

Malleus (aliquorum) cardinalium -- Hard Times For "Dissenters" Among the Cardinals

(Rome) "Hard times" rule for cardinals who are considered "dissenters" from the path specified by the current Pope. The "Ultrabergogliani" (Master) Internet portal, Vatican Insider , which was created in collaboration with Andrea Tornielli, the House and Palace Vaticanists of Pope Francis announced within the last few days of  blows against three cardinals who had allegedly made such infringements.

Against Cardinal Raymond Burke

On February 14, Vatican insider  grasped with zeal an entry by Archbishop Donald Wuerl of Washington Cardinal  which the latter wrote to his American brother, Raymond Cardinal Burke. Although Cardinal Wuerl had not called his brother Burke by name, Vatican Insider published this even boldly, so that everyone would recognize the addressee,  the accused. Wuerl accused his brother of treason because of his criticism Pope Francis' decisions.

Against Cardinal George Pell

On February 16, Vatican Insider informed with a number of previously unknown details about steps that have been made for Legislative Texts on behalf of Pope Francis and the Pontifical Council to reduce the decision-making powers and responsibilities of George Cardinal Pell as Prefect of the new Economy Secretariat. It was Francis who called Cardinal Pell, Archbishop of Sydney, who was still in Australia exactly one year ago to Rome and placed him at the head of the new Congregation.

Against Cardinal Joseph Zen

On February 19,   Vatican Insider devoted wide space for an article with some sarcastic criticism by an unknown Chinese priest, degrade  Cardinal Joseph Zen, Bishop Emeritus of Hong Kong and undisputed head of  the underground Catholic Church in China loyal to Rome. He was described  in caustically, as boycotting any attempt at "appeasement" between the Holy See and the communist government in Beijing.

Open season on the "kangaroo" Pell

After the Pontifical Council for Legislative Texts and the Pension Fund of the Vatican rose against the Australian cardinal in the ring. On 20 February, he said in a press statement that the pensions of Vatican officials are secured and "disruptive" news in recent months were unfounded.
It is Cardinal Pell, who had been concerned for  months sounding an alarm because of the Vatican's pension funds. For the first time he did so in July 2014, with the announcement that it would have required a committee of experts to study the problems. He repeated it in the British weekly Catholic Herald last December and 13 February on the website crux of the Boston Globe.
Against the attempt by Cardinal Pell to bring order to the pension fund,  the same Board of Directors reacted. The chair  is Domenico Calcagno Cardinal, President of the Administration of the Patrimony of the Apostolic See (APSA),   St. Peter Buildiong Works, the Propaganda Fide, the Secretariat of State, Vatican Radio and the Governor of Vatican City. "In short, the representatives of all these institutions were in a power struggle with Pell, who were struggling to preserve their economic and financial autonomy," said Magister.
Thus, below the encircling attack progress against the man who is often referred to by the English media as the "Czar" of Vatican finances, but within the holy walls, and even in altissimis, he is quite prosaically called the "kangaroo."

Emeriti Bishops in the Synod? Now it is Possible...

Bishop Frangiskos Papamanolis, President of the
Hellenic Bishops' Conference
(Rome) The Synod of Bishops in 2015 will be a novelty in any case. Among the Synod Fathers who have been chosen by the Bishops' Conferences of the Synod of Bishops in 2015 there are also two emeritus bishops.
One of them is 78-year-old retired Archbishop Cardinal Audrys Backis of Vilnius. Secondly, the Bishop Emeritus Frangiskos Papamanolis of Syros, Santorini and Crete in Greece. However, the Capuchin Papamanolis is still acting President  of the Greek Bishops' Conference .
Earlier, it was not allowed to choose emeritus bishops. Only the Pope could be allowed to appoint emeriti in this context. In 1998 the Italian Episcopal Conference chose Bishop Luigi Bettazzi for the Synod of the Bishops' Synod on Europe, which took place in autumn 1999. The Holy See did not confirm his choice because by then he had completed his 75th year and became emeritus bishop of Ivrea.

The Case of the Vanishing Preface of Benedict XVI

Where's the Preface?
(Rome) The defenders of the Catholic doctrine of marriage and family are currently facing a bitter wind of late. Pressure  is exerted on publishers who have published their books in defense of the marriage sacrament. Books for the defense of the Catholic marriage and morality, on the way to the synod at the Vatican disappear . Public attacks against the Cardinals, who oppose the Kasper proposal approved by Pope Francis to damage their reputation. Law suits and dismissals.
How much of this is anticipatory obedience, and how much  is a direct order from above, can not be said easily. There is much to indicate a firm command center around Pope Francis. You have a goal in mind and wants to achieve in October 2015. In the background is the rich German church has increased its pressure on Rome. Cardinal Reinhard Marx sent word that Germany can change church practice by itself, should Rome buck the synod again as in October 2014. Marx is a shadow Pope in Munich? In argentinian Rome one wants, were it not for the annoying "conservatives", who do not want to comply to progress.
Among them is the African Cardinal Robert Sarah. The French publisher Fayard submitted a conversation book by Cardinal Sarah in recent days. In it we find the statement: "The idea to leave the profession of doctrine in a pretty box and thus detaching it  pastoral practice, and then, depending on the circumstances,  may develop according to the fashions and passions, is a form of heresy, of pathological schizophrenia. I solemnly affirms that the Church of Africa will oppose any form of rebellion against the Magisterium of Christ and the Church."

A book with a mystery

A book that provides a mystery. The publisher announced it with a "Letter to Pope Benedict XVI Emeritus." And already the front page of the book is published (see picture). Benedict XVI. but is now gone. The book was published without the preface by him. "In all likelihood, Benedict XVI had. written the preface, which was provided for the book, the title page otherwise would not have been designed with the book notice and may have been used for advertising," said Benoit et moi . Why the preface was withdrawn, remains a mystery. "What politically correct ideas gained the upper hand in the publishing house of Fayard to consider the publication of a preface to the Pope Emeritus in the new book unwise?" asked Benoit et moi with the hope that Cardinal Sarah would make public the preface written by Benedict XVI.
The reasons for the missing preface must of course not lie with the French publisher. What remains for the time being, is the suspicion that pressure and intimidation to school those whose defense of Catholic doctrine and order are denounced as "attacks" against the Pope.
Cardinal Sarah has worked 22 years as archbishop of Conakry in Guinea. He knows how to deal with difficult situations without immediately losing his nerve. His predecessor had been imprisoned by the then ruling Guinea Communists for nine years. In 2001 he was appointed by Pope John Paul II. to Rome, who then made him Secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples . In 2010 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him President of the Pontifical Council Cor Unum and  created him the same year a cardinal. Pope Francis at the end of 2014 appointed him as the new Prefect of the Roman Congregation for Divine Worship . As he was seeking for a successor to Cardinal Canizares,  the Ratzingerianer in origin, and for to be of use in the context of the Church's need for the black African with a serious expression. The determinant seems that after the verbal gaffe by Cardinal Walter Kasper at the synod, Pope Francis endeavored  gestures of good will towards black Africa. The Presidency of the Pontifical Council Cor Unum has since been vacant, which is foreseen in the proposed amalgamation of the Pontifical Councils as part of the reform of the Curia.

Fabian Vasquez of Radio Cristianidad Dies in Fatal Car Crash

Edit: it's with sadness and hope that we report the death of blogger and broadcaster Fabian Vasquez, a great Argentinian who tragically died, as we learned from a good friend of ours from South America. He was a vocal critic of Pope Francis, as well.
He was the director and main broadcaster at Radio Cristianda, the voice of Catholic tradition. and led a fruitful apostolate on the internet.

He was a very disciplined and cultivated man, fond of fine humor as he loved making people laugh.

He was a faithful and staunch Traditional Catholic man, who was devoted to seeking and revealing the True, One, Holy and Apostolic Church.

He lived peacefully in the town of San Luis in Western Argentina along with his wife and son, Vivian and Ignacio.

He died in a car accident which took place at 06:30 (Argentina time) on the Route 188 near the municipality of Coronel Granada, Buenos Aires Province

May he find Peace and Forgiveness in Our Lord, and let us storm heaven with prayers for his soul.

"The Plot Against the Pope"

Bishops' Synod
"Who Framed Roger Rabbit?", borrowing from  a cartoon from the late '80s  Lorenzo Bertocchi points out that behind the scenes, significant activities are underway to break the resistance against the "new Mercy" and exercise pressure on those  that stand in its  way. Just yesterday  the Vatican expert Manfred Ferrari reported on the Vatican Mysteries - The Lost Book .
Bertocchi is also about the same book. The story began in the summer of 2014. Shortly before the Synod of Bishops on the family, the first part was published the anthology "Remain in the truth of Christ." The driving force behind it was the American Cardinal Raymond Leo Burke. The book gathered together essays by five cardinals, and four other articles by renowned theologians. These are the Cardinals Walter Brandmüller, Carlo Caffarra Velasio De Paolis, Gerhard Müller and Burke himself. The book was published simultaneously in several languages, the German version is by publisher Echt.

The Book of Five Cardinals

All authors are defending Catholic marriage  and family teaching at the highest level against the thesis that the Cardinal Walter Kasper at the Consistory in February 2014 put forward that "remarried" divorcees can, under certain conditions, have authorization granted to receive the sacraments. The Augustinian Father Robert Dodaro OSA, editor of the anthology, explained it in a nutshell: "The 'merciful' solution Cardinal Kasper represents was not unknown in the early church, but no recognized churchman or theologian  defended them. On the contrary, when it is mentioned then, it is to condemn it, because it is contrary to Scripture."   The  admission to the Eucharist for "the remarried" divorced is therefore impossible, unless the couple would exercise abstinence. This could summarize the main thesis of the book in its Italian edition issued from the publisher Cantagalli.
The book immediately aroused strong opposition, the representatives of the Kasper thesis knew but now that the "new Mercy" at the Synod of Bishops could not expect an unimpeded march. Thesis and antithesis are part of the discourse and are nothing out of the ordinary. But recently the head of the progressivist school of Bologna, Alberto Melloni  fired an arrow in the newspaper Corriere Fiorentino. He did it in the middle of a book review to a very different book released by  Cantagalli.

Melloni's arrow: "Conspiracy against the Pope"

Melloni's arrow says that the publishing house has lent themselves as a base of operations for the opposition of the cardinals.  The left historian: "The publishing house had  with the backing of Cardinal Müller, Prefect of the Congregation of Doctrine and the Faith, in good or bad faith God only knows (...) to foment a plot against the Pope and against the Synod, a few hours before it started, in order not to  discuss the things that Francis  wanted to discuss."
In short: According to Melloni, Cardinal Tagle's former boss,  with whom he participated in the School of Bologna, had accused  five cardinals under conspiring under the leadership of the Prefect, Cardinal Müller,  to "plot" against the Pope and to use the publishing house  as a base of operations. Strong stuff, considering that the book was published at the same time not only in Italy but in five languages and five publishers. Strong stuff even if you know the expiry of the Synod of Bishops, where the Cardinals had openly defended their position and if someone else was playing with marked cards. As a "revelation" of sinister plans, Melloni's arrow is not good, that must also have been clear. What is it about then?

Cardinal Kasper: "Nothing was done by me"

The book, which was a commercial success, provided a significant contribution to the Synod debate. This is exactly what had been repeatedly claimed by Pope Francis. But Cardinal Kasper responded irritably. He felt personally attacked. In interviews he said he was "surprised" by the book with which an "unprecedented situation" had been created. In short, what the five cardinals had dared, was outrageous. In addition, the German cardinal hastened to emphasize, that everything had been arranged with the Pope.
However, this was truly a revelation. Until then, it was officially known, Pope Francis wanted an honest discussion, but not express itself in fact. It could be argued, we do not know what position the Pope took regarding the Kasper thesis. Now, however, says Kasper seven months after the Cardinal Consistory, that everything was discussed with Francis and the Pope had "agreed to everything. They [the five cardinals] knew that I have not done these things of my own accord. I have arranged it with the Pope. I have spoken to him twice. He was satisfied."
Attentive observers could not escape the fact that Pope Francis sought by a whole series of gestures and words, a striking proximity to Kasper and his thesis.  Kasper's revelation provided the confirmation.

Cardinal De Paolis, "I will have the freedom to say what I think"

That was more interesting than the five Cardinals with their essays in no way criticizing the Pope, but at a high level put forward their arguments for the defense of the marriage sacrament. Cardinal De Paolis clarified it in an interview with the daily newspaper La Repubblica : "Not a major operation.  We wanted to make our contribution to the discussion, as we have had our say."   He also adds that there is no question of it being "unprecedented," because the positions had been repeatedly made previously in other settings and  published on another occasion.
Melloni's arrow is reminiscent of the method, where  Soviet bloc dissidents were accused of  "anti-Soviet agitation". "I want to have the freedom to say what I think without becoming  accused as a conspirator" replied Cardinal De Velasio in his interview. In fact, this does not seem to be obvious to some.
Also, the publisher Cantagalli must have the right to be able to do its job without receiving cryptic messages from Melloni. So it is absurd to talk of conspiracy, so it is also true that there have been significant attempts to exert pressure on the publisher not to publish the book. The honest dialogue on the topic: "Speak with boldness" (Pope Francis). Melloni's arrow confirmed five months later that there are important people, according to whom this book ought not have appeared. "You understand Roger Rabbit?" Asks Lorenzo Bertocchi. "Bold" dialog? Of course, but please do so unanimously.

200 Copies of Cardinals' Book in Defense of Orthodox Teaching Got Lost in the Mail Before Synod

Guest Post by Manfred Ferrari
There were five brave musketeers, all of the ecclesiastical rank of cardinal. Their great concern was that in the Synod of Bishops in 2014 things were being decided, and they themselves could not accountable to God for it, so they forged a bold plan.
They decided in haste to write a book in which they would lay down their (conservative) opinion. In der Wahrheit Christi bleiben“ [Remaining the Truth of Christ] Thus the book has been translated into several languages, as well as in German language, a seemingly impossible task, since the date of the synod was approaching. In Germany there was the Echter (Real) publishing house, which was up to the task. As the saying goes "Nomen est Omen" ... Those who today find the book in their publishing prospectus, which has so cleverly hidden the work of 5 cardinals that only historians seem to find it.
The five prelates, among whom Cardinal Gerhard Ludwig Müller, Prefect of the Congregation,  is recorded as an author, prepared themselves to send their books to the * 200 addressees in the Synod Hall *. Diligent priestly hands laced together the packages and handed them over to the foresight not of the Vatican post, but the Italian government post. A brave decision, but the latter is considered to be rather sluggish and unreliable (As an example: ... the writer received two weeks before had received a letter back that he had sent Cardinal Roger Etchegaray three months earlier, with the comment: unknown recipient). But the agile Cardinals did not calculate their bill with the host, ie with the Synod Secretary Cardinal Lorenzo Baldisseri, who did not approve of the action of the illustrious Cardinals.
The 200 packs disappeared mysteriously, in any papal cellar archive or were perhaps even destroyed. Only two or three prelates found the book in their post. The enterprising Synod secretary was even compelled to complain to the governor of the Vatican, with the polite request to dismiss the director of the Vatican post ...
To make it clear once again it should be noted: This episode took place in the Vatican and not in the Kremlin. As I have told a friend who has traveled back in those days back to Africa this story, he smiled at me and said mildly, "Manfred why  are you angry. In South Sudan it's  not doing better ... Expressive Photos -- The Anomaly Since February 28, 2013

Bishops of the Ukraine Before the Pope (emeritus) 2015
(Vatican) The Catholic Church had entered into a state of anomaly  on the evening of 28 February 2013 at * o'clock.  The pictures of the end of a pontificate are unforgettable. The departure of a revered Pope. The gates of Castel Gandolfo   close with a haunting sense of loss. But death was not what had  occurred. The pontificate which began on 13 March 2013 is only the second part of the same anomaly. The Church has since lived on successive waves of a rollercoaster of emotions.
Chiesa e postconcilio has published images of two recent scenes documenting this anomaly two years after its commencement. Both show the homage of bishops and cardinals, as are owed to a pope. What is not true: it is not, this is not the Pope, but an entity not existing ecclesiastical law, which is the theologically unexplained figure of a pope emeritus.
Consistory 2015: Homage to the Cardinals before the Pope (emeritus)

Obeisances to the Pope (emeritus) in 2015

In the first place, the Pope,  all seem to agree,  is not Benedict XVI anymore. After offering their homage  the Pope blesses the Ukrainian bishops in the Vatican Gardens. They just came straight from their ad limina visit to the Pope, but to another Pope.
The  Cardinals bow in homage at the Consistory in St. Peter's Basilica before the Pope. While he stood several meters away and just created new cardinals.
One  anomaly follows another. When this condition will have an end is not in sight. What seems certain is that the "emeritus" Benedict XVI. as under normal circumstances is still Pope, while the reigning Pope would be the Emeritus Archbishop of Buenos Aires. He still could indeed take part in a conclave until December 2016  to elect a new Pope . But when he retires he would not be papabile any more.
