Catholic Snooze Media and Old Liberal Bishop Go After Another Conservative Priest

Bishop "Conversation"

Edit: oh yeah, these conservative celebrity priests should be made to pay the legal bill and help subsidize that failed and heavily government subsidized Liberal ecclesiology.    It's not bad enough that these Bishops want your tax money to be paid to their "charity" boondoggles, campaigning for Democratic Party or Socialist agendas and their CINO Universities, but they want the funds you may have been sending to more worthy Catholic causes too; whether that's EWTN, or what have you, that are more or less not completely under their collectivist thumbs.  Check out Bishop Zurrek's underwhelming "Cathedral. "
Remember how you have those wonderful quartz rocks that are ugly on the outside but fabulous and beautiful on the inside?  This Cathedral isn't one of them.  +Zurek went all out to disedify on this one.  While the Bishop is trying to horn in on the incomes of conservative priests.  Who's holding the Bishop accountable?

Church in the Round with Altar-Nave.

Not surprising.  It's  sickening to watch while the Judases line up to stand in the gauntlet, eager to deal out lashes and buffets where they can, as if they're following a script somewhere. Watch the feeding frenzy begin, like at the Cankerous.

On the other hand, other people have been trying to call these Bishops to accountability and transparency with respect to the preachment of the Catholic Faith for years.

Interestingly, it's the incompetence and gross malfeasance of many Bishops in the United States that people like Frank Pavone exist.  Many people are justifiably reluctant to give their money to the highly subsidized AmChurch with its global warming awareness, support for Socialism and promotion of homosexuality.

Now these Bishops are eager to dip into the till.  Feast your eyes as the specious Catholics of the faux Catholisphere crow about obedience, being docile to the word of God and all that.

As usual, these Liberal prelates have no right to expect obedience when they themselves are disobedient.

Here's Father's official statement at Lifesite:

I am very perplexed by this demand. Despite that, because I am a priest of the diocese of Amarillo, I will be obedient and report there on the appointed date, putting the other commitments that are on my calendar on hold until I get more clarity as to what the bishop wants and for how long. Meanwhile, I continue to retain all my priestly faculties and continue to be a priest in "good standing" in the Church. [You and Father Roy Borgeois and the brothers Barrigan or the Cardinal on the Danube for example, so you're in good company.] The bishop does not dispute this fact. Rather, he has said that he thinks I am giving too much priority to my pro-life work, and that this makes me disobedient to him. He also has claimed that I haven't given him enough financial information.

Now, although Bishop Zurek is my Ordinary, he is not the bishop of Priests for Life. Each of our staff priests has his own Ordinary, and the organization has an entire Board of Bishops. We keep them all informed of our activities, and of our financial audits.

Here's the story from the Catholic Snooze Service:

Father Pavone (CNS file)
By Dennis Sadowski
Catholic News Service

WASHINGTON (CNS) -- Father Frank Pavone, one of the country's most visible and vocal opponents of abortion, has been suspended from active ministry outside the Diocese of Amarillo, Texas, over financial questions about his operation of Priests for Life.

The suspension was made public in a Sept. 9 letter from Amarillo Bishop Patrick J. Zurek to his fellow bishops across the country, but Father Pavone told Catholic News Service that he was returning to Amarillo and planned to continue functioning as a priest there.

"My decision is the result of deep concerns regarding his stewardship of the finances of the Priests for Life (PFL) organization," Bishop Zurek wrote. "The PFL has become a business that is quite lucrative which provides Father Pavone with financial independence from all legitimate ecclesiastical oversight."

Here are some pictures and music to give you some feel for what kind of man Bishop Zurrah is.  His vestments, pectoral cross and Liturgical postures demonstrates a definite Gather influence which is always a bad sign:

Archbishop Promotes Socialist Wealth-Confiscation Schemes

The Canonization of Marx and Coercive Virtue

Editor: It's a Bella Dodd alert.  Some commentators think it's cute when Archbishops use their moral authority to promote Socialist wealth confiscation schemes and the mistaken idea that people being coerced to support government programs allegedly for poor relief, constitute charity.  Perhaps Archbishop Nienstedt should consult St. Thomas on this issue rather than Karl Marx?  Aquinas says:

It is not always through the perfect goodness of virtue that one obeys the law, but sometimes it is through fear of punishment, and sometimes from the mere dictate of reason, which is a kind of beginning of virtue.(8)
Check out the Dick and Jane help out with the Community Organizing over on the Mark Shay blog by positing imaginary distinctions between different social justices as if painting the name "Catholic" on something changes its substance.  Yet once again, the neo-Conservative Archbishop puts himself behind wealth redistribution and the expansion of the welfare state.

In any event, the Archbishop is lending a red hand  on behalf of those nefarious political interests continuing to degrade the moral tenor of the nation.

Articulate and just criticisms are forthcoming from Senator David Hahn as they appear here at NPR.

SPAIN: Socialists Lose Big in the Polls

Editor: Ok, everyone, back in the polls and vote right this time.

Spain's ruling Socialists have been hit with defeat in municipal and regional elections, amid voter discontent over high unemployment and economic stagnation.

With almost all of the May 22 vote counted, results showed the opposition conservative Popular Party winning more than 37 percent of the overall vote, against nearly 28 percent for Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero's Socialists.

The results show the Popular Party heading to victory in the 13 regional government elections that were contested.

Socialist Sweden More Dangerous for Children than Catholic Church

Editor: Andrew Brown at the Guardian is offering his analysis of the American Catholic Bishops' report on sex crimes.  First of all, in contrast to Brown, it seems pretty clear that the moral permissiveness and relativism promoted during the "sexual revolution" had something to do with this.  When sick individuals like Allen Ginsberg were pursuing adolescents, the thing was glossed over, since geniuses aren't held to the same standards as the lower classes. But what if Socialist Sweden is more dangerous to children than the Catholic Church?  A lot of people won't believe you, but here are the figures in case anyone is interested in the injustice of this hoax and how it's been manipulated by the Media-Entertainment complex.

[Guardian] For comparison, the Swedish figures for reported sex crimes against all children under 15 was 142/100,000 children in 1992, and 169/100,000 in 2001.

These figures suggest that during the 1990s a child in Sweden, possibly the most secularised country in Europe, was between 10 and 30 times more likely to be sexually assaulted than an American Catholic was by his priest. Even making allowances for the considerable margin of error that must be built into these figures, it's clear that what went on in US Catholic churches was terrible but rather less terrible than what went on at the same time in many other places where Catholicism was not involved. If the US Catholic church is a hotbed of child rape, Sweden is an awful lot worse. (Just to be clear here, I think the idea that Sweden is a dangerous country for children is entirely absurd.)

I picked Sweden for comparison largely because I know my way round the crime statistics there. But the US government figures quoted in the John Jay report show also that Alaska has a rate of reported child abuse that dwarfs Sweden's – 788/100,000 in 2001, or 140 times the incidence of reported child abuse in the US Catholic church at the same period. So there is nothing uniquely rotten about the American Catholic church.

Vatican official speaks of a 'strategy of reconciliation' with Pro-Abortion Women Religious | NCR

Why do they always make concessions to these people? Perhaps it's because they have no intention of really addressing the problem. With all the caterwauling from trendy elder religious, you'd think they were being sent packing without bread or crip. But anyway, if history has taught us anything, it's that concessions to such people are always fruitless. If US Women religious want to be infelicitous social workers, they should do that and not pretend to be legitimate Roman Catholic religious.

Once again, heterodoxy, financial mismanagement , material participants in abortion, religious indifferentism, misrepresentation and the like are not the most serious things of which you can be guilty.  This is incredible, really, in light of all of the charges which can be leveled at this collective body of very unfaithful Brides of Christ:

A number of leaders of women’s congregations have said to me that they’ve been surprised by the depth of anger and hurt that exists among the sisters. I think that can’t be ignored. It has to be addressed, it’s a sign of the times

Vatican official speaks of a 'strategy of reconciliation' with women religious | National Catholic Reporter

When they've been pushing for socialism and the murder of innocents as Sister Carol has, you really have to marvel at the gall of these women, and the fact that despite the part they've played in the destruction of the Catholic Church worldwide, if not just in the USA where this visitation is taking place, but here they are crying for preferential treatment as if they're owed something for doing a bad job, doing the exact opposite of the things that they are professed to do and being treated with kid gloves all the while... amazing...

Minnesota Democrats Accuse Catholics of Ignoring the Poor

The Democrats are proud of their generosity to the poor, and owing perhaps due to some unclear thinking aren't aware that charitable acts must be of free will, and there's no merit in being generous with other people's money. Hat tip to Ray at Stella Borealis for this item. But with them it's always the same, high crime and higher and higher taxes.

Now there were some that had indignation within themselves, and said: Why was this waste of the ointment made? [5] For this ointment might have been sold for more than three hundred pence, and given to the poor. And they murmured against her [Douay-Rheims] Luke 14: 4-6.

A recent postcard mailed the the MN DFL State Central Committee has a picture of a priest wearing a button that says "Ignore the Poor".

The picture takes up the entire side of the postcard!

How low has the DFL party sunk that they would mail out pictures of a priest urging people to ignore the poor?

In their haste to try to run from the Democrat agenda of Higher Taxes and ever more Inefficient, Ineffective and Expensive Government programs, the DFL has gone too far.

The other side of the postcard talks about Government Health Care. Government run health care means the end of Catholic Hospitals. I guess the Democrats have to demonize Catholics in order to justify their stand on Government Run Health Care

Wealthy Liberal Catholics Paying Archbishop Nienstedt Millions

Archbishop Nienstedt is going to get a bump for inner-city Catholic Schools from the Pohlad family to the tune of $1 Million a year. Former Twins baseball team owner, Carl Pohlad had his funeral Mass in the very liberal, pro-homosexual Basilica of St. Mary's and he headed he collectivist Metropolitan Transit Commission which oversaw the destruction of the rail system and the reallocation of a cost ineffective bus system.

In any event, inner-city Catholic schools are yet another poor investment, especially from a Catholic perspective, unless Archbishop Nienstedt is willing to address the large presence of Neo-marxists who comprise the administration and teaching staff.

The Pohlad family still plays golf at Interlaken which endorses Planned Parenthood.

The Pohlad Family today announced a major commitment to keeping urban Catholic elementary schools affordable for young people from economically-disadvantaged families. Through the Minneapolis Foundation and the Catholic Community Foundation, a total of $1 million in tuition assistance will be distributed to nineteen Catholic schools for use during the 2009-2010 school year. The Pohlads plan to continue this million dollar funding each year through 2013-2014.

Archbishop John Nienstedt welcomed the commitment: “The Pohlad family’s quiet giving has focused on providing opportunities that help young people move out of poverty. We are grateful for the family’s recommitment to Catholic education in neighborhoods where poverty has been growing.”

"Who is a Neo-Conservative" an Interview with Michael Novak

Insidecatholic

Prominent writer, thinker, and Crisis Magazine co-founder Michael Novak sat down with Italian scholar Alia K. Nardini to discuss neoconservatism, Catholicism, and the future of the West.

♦ ♦ ♦

Alia K. Nardini: Professor Novak, generally people in Italy and the rest of Europe want to know how much American neoconservatives share with the Republican Party. However, I find that the most interesting question really concerns the relationship between neoconservatives and the Democratic Party, especially in terms of conceptual differences that developed during the 1960s and 1970s. What is your view on this?

Michael Novak: In the first generation, virtually all neo-conservatives -- Daniel Patrick Moynihan, Irving Kristol, Daniel Bell, Norman Podhoretz, Midge Decter, Richard John Neuhaus, George Weigel, and Paul Johnson in England -- were not only Democrats; we were on the left wing of the Democratic Party. We were Kennedy Democrats. But from about 1972, the Democratic Party, drawing the wrong lessons from the war in Vietnam, chose as its campaign slogan, "Come home, America!" and began retreating from the world and its international burdens. Then, after 1973, the Democratic Party increasingly became the party of abortion. It is still the party of abortion. From our point of view, we did not leave the Democratic Party, the party left us.

AKN: Is it true that the American public did not vote in favor of abortion, but that the Supreme Court, in effect, decreed it?

MN: Actually, prior to 1973, any time abortion had been put to a vote in the United States, it was overwhelmingly defeated. The American people prefer pro-life [legislation] by a good majority. But the Supreme Court stepped in, and in 1973 made a ruling that permitted abortion for almost any reason (in practice) and during all nine months of pregnancy. This was an illegitimate exercise of judicial power. It is not the business of the Court to make legislation. Legislation should be made only with the consent of the governed, through the Congress. The American people have never consented to this ruling, [which] has caused turmoil in our politics and culture for 34 years now, as nothing else has. Together with other factors, it brought a long series of defeats to the Democratic Party.

AKN: What other major issues made you move away from what was becoming the official position of the Democratic Party in the 1970s?

MN: Economics. Many of us once thought that socialism was basically a good idea, but socialists had not found a practical way to implement it successfully. Then we actually started to examine the many different national experiments in socialism -- almost 70. None of them worked. So socialism cannot be a good idea. Now, if you are on the Left and you cease being a socialist, what are you? If you do not take the state as the main engine of progress, where do you turn?

In these circumstances, and independently, several writers started re-examining the American founding. Irving Kristol in particular wrote a beautiful book about that, and discovered a new way of thinking about the future.

Like socialists, neoconservatives try to imagine, and to work toward, a better future. Unlike socialists, neoconservatives saw in a dynamic free economy a better way of breaking the chains of poverty than socialism ever discovered.

Again, at the time of the American founding, the term "republican" was much preferred to "democratic." The latter meant rule by the majority, but that has often proven dangerous and tyrannical. A "republic" places checks and balances on the majority through representative government and stresses the rule of law and the protection of the rights of the free.

Then there was this second discovery: not just that the American founding held a superior economic idea (which is why socialism never took root in the United States), but also that the American people, when given a free choice, would usually come down on the conservative side of most issues. Polls reveal that even in Europe the vast majority of people believe in capital punishment. It is the political class -- the elites -- that does not. The Left thinks it speaks for the people, but rarely does so.
