The Pope’s Revenge — Archbishop Gänswein Fired

Curia Archbishop Georg Gänswein is the most recent victim of Pope Francis.

(Rome) Francis has been described as vindictive and vengeful by several authors critical of the Pope. The retaliation for the latest book by Cardinal Robert Sarah and Benedict XVI follows: Pope Francis removes Archbishop Georg Gänswein from his office as Prefect of the Pontifical House.

There have been similar rumors several times in the past, but now it's fixed. However, official confirmation of the latest Bergoglian sentence is still pending. "Apart from the media advance notice, Santa Marta is once again afraid of it," said a Vatican employee. This should be less to be expected, because Pope Francis has so far not been deterred by critical voices in his intentions, least of all if they come from faithful circles.

The "Black Pope", Jesuit General Arturo Sosa Abascal, formulated the situation on September 16, 2019 after six and a half years of the current pontificate:

"Pope critics know that Francis will not change his mind."

[Katholisches] The words were geared towards the Amazon Synod still pending at that time and its main intention to abolish priestly celibacy. This is exactly what the book of Cardinal Robert Sarah, Prefect of the Roman Congregation for Divine Worship and Order of the Sacraments, and Benedict XVI. did. Together they made a plea for priestly celibacy and the sacrament. With their “hands off celibacy” they drew a red line, the first unspoken addressee of this is Pope Francis. The post-synodal letter on the Amazon Synod is still pending, but it shows what faithful Church groups have feared since 2014: Francis creates an exception to the rule that leads to the intended dam break. The German bishops have been waiting impatiently for a long time. A whole series of bishops in the German-speaking world, in Austria and Switzerland it is no different, can hardly wait to dispose of celibacy on the dung heap of history. He is said to be carried to the grave with unctuous ramblings. That is why the Bergoglian bishop generation is not embarrassed (see Married Priests? What bishops of the German-speaking area say about this).

The book by the cardinal and the past pope, which makes it clear that Pope Francis crosses the red line with a softening of celibacy and breaks the tradition of the Church, caused an outburst of anger in Santa Marta. The result was a scandalous media theater, staged by the papal inner-circle, with which confusion about the authorship of Benedict XVI. was generated. Since the secular mass media has a wider reach, well-meaning Catholics still believe Benedict XVI. had denied authorship and must somehow have been "concocted" by Cardinal Sarah. In reality, the fake news campaign aimed to counteract the effectiveness of the book and its defense of priestly celibacy. Contrary to the widespread claim that celibacy is "only" a law of the Church and therefore can be changed at any time, it is "of divine and apostolic origin" (Roberto de Mattei), see also Cardinal Sarah: "Celestial celibacy is not just a law the Church". Celibacy, however, stands in the way of the "sexual revolution" and its view of sexuality. This has been the mainstay of the fight against celibacy since the 1960s.

Archbishop Gänswein came, because of his double position as private secretary of Benedict XVI. and as Prefect of the Pontifical House of Francis immediately and directly into the line of firing. He now also feels the revenge of Santa Marta, which affects him, but of course also and not least,  this means Benedict XVI. It remains to be seen whether the retaliation will be packed into a dismantling of the Papal Prefecture. Whatever the packaging should look like, Msgr. Gänswein is removed from his office, the motivation and the papal intention are clear.

The convinced Bergoglian and pope biographer Austen Ivereigh already asked in an interview on August 10, 2019 to isolate Benedict XVI, whose authority has remained unbroken in large Church circles worldwide. Ivereigh's invitation to Santa Marta was:

"We have to get the circle around Benedict XVI. under control."

Note the personal pronoun "we", which, besides Ivereigh, means the papal inner-circle and Pope Francis himself. The first, closest and most important “circle” of Benedict XVI. is his private secretary and long-time, loyal employee of Archbishop Georg Gänswein.

Ivereigh was the spokesman for Cardinal Cormack Murphy-O’Connor, a member of the ecclesiastical “gang of four”, which he referred to as Team Bergoglio, and Ivereigh himself revealed their existence. The four-member cardinal group (Kasper, Lehmann, Murphy-O'Connor and Danneels), according to the British journalist and author, organized the election of Jorge Mario Bergoglio as Pope as the executive arm of the inner-Church secret circle of St. Gallen.

A struggle is raging in the Church “between two churches”, as the historian and President of the Lepanto Foundation Roberto de Mattei analyzed, one of which could not be the Church of Jesus Christ.

[Update, 12.05 p.m.] Curial Archbishop Georg Gänswein was "put on leave”  by Pope Francis. Informally, it is embellished that Gänswein should have more time to look after Benedict XVI. And take care of him. Vatican circles currently do not expect the post of Prefect of the Pontifical House to be filled. Access to the Pope, one of the prefect's main tasks, was handled by Francis from the start through other hands. Archbishop Gänswein's duties were largely reduced to the duty of attendance when receiving state visits and as an extra for papal activities.

Ukrainian Grand Archbishop Says Married Clergy Won’t Solve Priest Shortage

ROME - Archbishop Sviatoslav Shevchuk, Major Archbishop of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, has urged those considering allowing priests in the Latin rite to marry in order to help solve a crippling shortage, to proceed with caution, saying marriage has not curbed shortages in his own rite.
With five blooming seminaries in Ukraine alone, “thanks be to God we do not lack vocations,” Shevchuk said, but noted that despite the fact that priests in his church - the largest of the 23 sui iuris eastern churches in full communion with Rome - have the ability to marry, the high numbers don’t appear for Greek Catholics in other countries.
“The same church with the same way of living the priestly vocation in other countries around the world does not enjoy this quantity of vocations,” he said, noting that numbers in the United States and Canada, among others, are few.

Austrian Bishop Says Pope Fears Final Judgement

Edit: one of the only decent bishops in the Austrian Bishops’ Conference.

July 3, 2019 (LifeSiteNews) – Austrian Bishop Andreas Laun, in a short commentary published on the Austrian news website Kath.net, reminds us that Pope Francis said in January 2019 that he will not abolish obligatory clerical celibacy, adding that he does not “want to appear before God with this decision.”
Bishop Laun quotes these latter papal words after first presenting Pope Francis’ words that “celibacy is a gift for the Church.”
With it, Bishop Laun points out that Pope Francis is aware that the abolition of obligatory celibacy on his part would be a decision that he would one day have to answer for before God.

Celibacy and Its Opponents

Bishop Bode, pictured with new "liturgical" headgear, is preparing the German public for the introduction of married priests. A plan with far-reaching consequences ...

(Berlin) If there were any doubts that the Amazon synod would be programmed, they should be dispelled. The Amazon synod is will not just be somehow programmed, but in the background from the German-speaking countries. The German Church is said to be recovering from the German spirit, not just since the 1960s. Like with Hegel the tourist in his rucksack, they seem to have a fixed view of the Protestantism that emerged from German lands as a role model. The demand is already old, but now it should really lunge for the neck of celibacy.

On German nature ...

The Amazon Synod is being prepared on behalf of Pope Francis by  the emeritus Austrian missionary Bishop Erwin Kräutler and German-born Brazilian Cardinal Claudio Hummes. Hummes (born 1934) is a personal friend of Pope Francis. Kräutler (born 1939) is the bishop who "does not agree" when it comes to praying priestly vocations.

Amazon Basin
Both have spoken repeatedly in favor of celibacy's demotion to a voluntary basis, which amounts to its de facto abolition, as practice in the Orthodox churches shows. In Protestantism, it never came up again. Both already spoke out for the ordination of women. The Amazon synod with the aim of a married clergy is therefore only a first stage in the attack on the sacrament of Holy Orders.

Kräutler is head of Repam Brazil and Hummes is head of the entire Repam network. Repam, in turn, was founded in late 2014 through episcopal conferences in all Amazonian states to prepare the Amazon synod on behalf of the Vatican. Thus, Kräutler and Hummes have a central influence on the direction of the synod.

The main concern of the Synod, which has since been barely hidden, is, unlike allegedly, not a "cry" of the indigenous Amazon people, because they have no priests. Hummes himself immediately smashed an unwanted proposal to remedy the alleged shortage of priests for the maximum of 300,000 Amazonian Indians. Why? Because the primary goal is not the pastoral care of the Indians, but the abolition of celibacy.

Pope Campaigning for More Modernism: Married Clergy

[Yahoo] Pope Francis has requested that Roman Catholic priests be given the right to get married.
The request applies to priests in Brazil, and is on the agenda for an upcoming synod (church council) in the Amazon region.
The controversial move would address the critical shortage of men joining the priesthood – but is likely to drive divisions through the church by enraging conservative factions.
A small number of married Roman Catholic priests already exist, including previously married Anglican vicars who have joined the church.
A request to lift the ban on marriage was made by Brazilian bishop Cardinal Claudio Hummes, who reportedly asked the Pope to consider ‘viri probati’, meaning married of great faith, as priests.

"I was not a pedophile Priest, but a pedophile who was ordained a priest."

(Paris) France 3 broadcast its interview with a former priest who was laicized for the sexual abuse of children by the Church. His statements are frightening. His statement that he was not a pedophile priest, but a pedophile who was ordained a priest is truly remarkable.
"I was not a pedophile priest but a pedophile who was ordained a priest," is the clear and frightening testimony of a man who was a priest and condemned for pedophilia.
The man sketches his CV in the interview. His sexual "impulses" had been known to his superiors in the Church, but that had not hurt his career. Above all, he was ordained a priest. At the end of the 1970s this was not really an issue.
Before he was consecrated, he was told only to "be careful". No one had pointed out to him "that my victims might suffer from it."
The man relates that he was ordained as a priest in 1981. At that time a "pedophile impulse" had already been "known". Nevertheless, he was later employed at French grammar schools and universities in the position of a youth welfare counselor. His superiors had been "an authority of blindness and irresponsibility." At that time, the man admitted, he had abused various minors.
The complaints of the victims had caused him to be transferred and to be assigned tasks in which he should no longer be in contact with children. He himself then, as he assured, ended his abusive behavior.
In 2006, he was found guilty by a court and sentenced to 15 months imprisonment. Through the contact with the victims he finally became "really aware of the damage one can inflict on the lives of others".
In addition to self-serving admissions, the man's statements are an important point. In the public discussion since the connection with sexual child abuse by clerics, a link between pedophilia and the priesthood or at least priestly celibacy has been repeatedly established. An attempt was made here to instrumentalize the abuse  into attacks against the priesthood, the Church, and against priest celibacy.
In this context, it is interesting to note the fact that the former priest and condemned pedophile interviewed by France 3, who emphasized that he had not been a "pedophile priest" but "a pedophile, who was ordained a priest."

War on the Church: Pope Francis Visits Seven Ex-Priests Who Have Married

Pope Francis received seven ex-prists and their families in a visit,
who have given up their priesthood in the past years to marry
(Rome) The papal remedy of Misericordina is not a cure. It is bestowed upon some, some not. This is decided according to how the affected parties will fit into the papal line. Last Friday, the Pope visited seven former priests, who were laicized, and allowed to marry.
Not participating were the defenders of the Sacrament of marriage and the Church's moral teachings.  At least not those who turned in public appeals with the requests to Pope Francis, to correct the controversial passages of the Post-Synodal Exhortation Amoris laetitia or completely withdraw the letter (Katholisches.info reported).
On the previous Friday, there were seven former priests who had given up on their priesthood and married.
On November 11th, the head of the Catholic Church visited seven "young" men who had given up on their priesthood in recent years, according to the Spanish press agency EFE.
The gesture is part of a papal initiative within the framework of the Holy Year of Mercy, which is called the "Fridays of Mercy". On these Fridays Francis holds private visits "without prior notice", according to EFE. This means that the visits will not be announced to the public, so that they can take place undisturbed.
At 3.30 pm the Pope left Santa Marta and went to the Roman quarter of Ponte di Nona on the outskirts of the city, where he visited an apartment.
"Not less than two hours," Francis met with seven families founded by as many young men who had given up their priesthood in the past years.
According to the Vatican Press Office, they belong to the diocese of Rome where "they were pastors in different parishes of the city."  One was from Madrid and another from Latin America, both of whom live in Rome. The seventh is from Sicily.
Pope Francis "gave his affections" to these men and their families, who "devoted themselves to priestly ministry in the parishes for several years," the Vatican said. "Loneliness, misunderstanding and fatigue because of the great effort and pastoral responsibility have brought their original decision for priesthood into a crisis." They would have spent "months and years of uncertainty and doubt," which often led them to make the wrong decision with the priesthood. Therefore, the decision to give up the priesthood and establish a family," says the press release of the Vatican.
"In this way, Pope Francis once more offered a sign of mercy to those who live in a situation of spiritual and material discomfort," and to make it clear that no one should remain without "the love and solidarity of their shepherds."
The Holy See did not announce the visit to the "Friday of Mercy", yet there is an interest in making the case public.
In the past, Francis had explained that the question of the married ex-priests "is on my agenda." There followed a series of signals around the "Amazon Workshop" that the "practice" of priesthood admission criteria could be changed while maintaining the teaching. The visit to seven former, married priests is also read as a signal that fits into this picture.
It is also astonishing the way the Vatican press office has expressed itself on the office of the priesthood.

Priests With Wives Yes, But As Brother and Sister

Edit: people who want to return to the Ancient Church don't realize what they're asking for.  It was more severe and daunting than most of them know. Here is Magister:

This was the discipline in effect during the first centuries of the Church. From Mexico a missionary is re-proposing it for today as well. He has written about it in a book that he sent to the pope, together with a letter

by Sandro Magister

ROME, March 1, 2016 – Those who were expecting from Pope Francis, during his journey to Mexico, signals of “openness” to the ordination of married priests have been disappointed.

Curiously, these expectations were the strongest among bishops, priests, and faithful of German nationality and of the German tongue, as well as in one Austrian bishop stationed in the Amazon:

> Married Priests. The Germany-Brazil Axis

But not in Mexico. Not only are those in favor of a married clergy in the minority there: a modest 31 percent according to the latest survey by the Pew Research Center.

But even in the diocese of San Cristóbal de Las Casas, in Chiapas, viewed by many as the ideal terrain for the start of the experiment, with its almost 400 married deacons, Bishop Felipe Arizmendi Esquivel pledges that for a number of years “the married deacons have no longer made it known to me that they aspire to a married priesthood”:

Celibacy: Is Pope Francis Going to Ordain Married Deacons to the Priesthood in Mexico?

(Rome) The divorced and remarried and homosexuality are only two fronts. Behind the scenes there is struggling in the Catholic Church about much more. A meeting began at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome this afternoon, whose theme in view of the circumstances of the time has been particularly explosive: "Priestlly celibacy is a path of freedom." The Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin and the Prefect of the Congregation for Bishops, Cardinal Marc Ouellet will be siding with the defense of priestly celibacy in the Latin Church. "But Pope Francis gave the German bishops again to understand that he wants to break with this tradition", said Vatican expert Sandro Magister.

From the "Autonomous Church" to the "Amazon Priest"? Pope Francis and the Married Clergy

Bishop Ruiz With Zapatista Guerrillas in 1996

(Rome) From the 12th to the 20th of February, Pope Francis will visit Mexico. While numerous media have identified the focus of his pastoral visit as the migration issue, the Vatican expert Sandro Magister has referred to the visit to the southern Mexican diocese of San Cristobal de Las Casas. There, from 1959-2000 the reigning diocesan Bishop Samuel Ruiz tried stealthily doing away with priestly celibacy. Instead of celibate priests,  he only consecrated married deacons. It's a form of the diaconate that was allowed by the Second Vatican Council to address the shortage of priests, but has also been criticized as a first step to lift the priest celibacy. At the end of Ruiz Garcia's tenure, the priesthood of his diocese had overaged and with each priest there were four married deacons.

In addition to his practice, the bishop complained of  a pressing shortage of priests and prepared the next step for the ordination of married deacons to the priesthood. Bishop Ruiz Garcia was also the showpiece of a church that had good contacts wth the extreme left, giving him international attention in certain circles.  With the retirement of Ruiz Garcia the Vatican pulled emergency brake and  forbade the consecration of other viri probati, the blessing of their women and the use of the term "indigenous deacons".

Bishop Ruiz Garcia's creeping abolition of priestly celibacy

Since the Pope will visit San Cristobal de Las Casas among the many Mexican dioceses,   Magister sees this as one of several indications that Pope Francis could allow the end of priestly celibacy by the ordination of married deacons (see  Pope Francis will invoke the subject of the abolition of celibacy and women priests for the next Synod? ). As a first step, the rehabilitation of priests who have abandoned their priesthood for a woman and were laisized would be conceivable. They are organized in different groups and they try, with the sympathizing parts of the clergy and the bishops, to put pressure on the Church. Media support is you safely. The abolition of celibacy and the sacramental priesthood was one of the main program points of the Protestant schism.

As Bishop Ruiz Garcia Liked to See Himself

Msgr. Felipe Arizmendi, the now reigning Bishop of San Cristóbal de las Casas,  spoke to Magister's suggestion. He has reported how - that he has improved the situation in the diocese - since the retirement of Bishop Ruiz Garcia. Meanwhile, there are local priests which Ruiz Garcia had claimed to be impossible (see The Other Chiapas of the Celibate Indigenous Clergy ).
Magister's thesis is now receiving new sustenance  through the report of Rome correspondent Andres Beltramo from Notimex. Betramo is among other things an associate of Vatican Insider, which is the news site operated by Andrea Tornielli, the House news portal and correspondent of Pope Francis. On Epiphany  Beltramo reported that Pope Francis is to visit the grave of the controversial Bishop Ruiz Garcia and he therefore wants to express his special appreciation. The visit of Bishop's graves is a rarity which will donate a signal effect for Pope's visit.

"Amazon Workshop" is working on a model of the married "Amazon priest"

On February 15, the Pope will visit the Cathedral of San Cristobal de las Casas, to pray at the grave of the   bishop, deceased in 2011, who is criticized within the church because of his anti-celibacy course and outside, because of his closeness to the socialist guerrilla organization Ejercito Zapatista de Liberacio n (EZLN ). Pope John Paul II had initiated an investigation against Bishop Ruiz Garcia  because he was suspected of wanting to build an "autonomous Church" separate from Rome. "The planned visit to the grave of Ruiz Garcia can be interpreted as supporting the idea of a married clergy," said Secretum Meum Mihi.
The Brazilian Cardinal Claudio Hummes and the Austrian Mission Bishop Erwin Kräutler are pushing with their "Amazon workshop".  Kräutler has in common with Ruiz Garcia not only good relations with the political left, but also calls for a "solution" for the shortage of priests, the abolition of priestly celibacy.

"Women's Culture" of the Pontifical Council for Culture -- Women's Priests and the Abolition of Celibacy?

Cardinal Ravasi
(Vatican) in early February convenes the Plenary Assembly of the Pontifical Council for Culture . It will introduce some novelties. Above all, there will be more irritating  voices around this event.

Pope Francis Against Misogyny and Machismo

It is considered difficult to make it out. It's even worse  when you raise expectations. Yesterday, Sunday, Pope Francis spoke to thousands of young Filipino students at the Pontifical and Royal University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Manila. The Catholic Church leader said, as it suits him best, which is extemporaneously. In his speech, he took up the cudgels for women. In the audience there were at least as many girls as boys. However, only one girl was among the selected ones who were allowed to present a question to the Pope: "There are few women among you.Too few. Women have a lot to say in today's society. Sometimes we are misogynistic and give women no room."
The Universidad Santo Tomaso Manila was founded in 1611 and is the oldest university in Asia. Since 1927, enrollment has been open to women. Currently, there are more than 42,000 students studying at the university.

Feminist Theologians  Accuse Pope of "Antiquated Modes of Thought"

Despite the criticism against  "machismo" do not seem to be satisfied on this point all feminists and theologians with Pope Francis. On The Contrary. In a recent issue of the Journal of the Città dell'uomo (city of man) the progressive theologian Maria Cristina Bartolomei published a scathing criticism of Pope Francis, whom she accused of adherence to an "antiquated, and ossified in old and outdated categories,"
When hearing from  theologians  à la Bartolomei hear you understand the Apostle Paul, "when he orders that women should keep silence in the Church," wrote the Catholic Pro-Lifer Claudia Cirami in Papale Papale. Bartolomeis' "analysis" of Vatican documents  hardly extends beyond the fundamental criticism that it was a question of  "documents by men for men."   Besides this Bartolomei is otherwise "super happy"  with Pope Francis.

Progressive Cycle

The "city of men" is a cultural-political association founded by Giuseppe Lazzati. Lazzati (1909-1986) comes from the environment by Giuseppe Dossetti, the procedural "organizer" of the vote success of the "Rheinish Alliance" at the Second Vatican Council. Dossetti, the head of the left wing of the Christian Democrats, Lazzati  became a Christian Democrat after the war, for whom he was a member of the Constituent Assembly (1946-1948) and then to 1953, a member of parliament. Lazzati stands with Dossetti on that section  of political Catholicism, which dreamed of a common 'social' future with the political left, including the Communists, or at least was open to left alliances. They found support with certain reservations, in a part of the ecclesiastical hierarchy that Paul VI. represented on the papal throne.
In 1958 Lazzati got a chair of Christian Literature of Antiquity at the Catholic University in Milan. In 1961  Archbishop of Milan Montini made him the editor of the Catholic newspaper "L'Italia". After his election as Pope, Paul VI. offered Lazzati more posts. In 1968, he leaves the chair to his assistant Raniero Cantalamessa and Rector of the Catholic University. It was an office which he held until 1983. He died in 1986, and  in 1991 with the help of the Archbishop of Milan, Carlo Maria Martini,  the beatification process began. On July 5, 2014 Pope Francis recognized Giuseppe Lazzati recognized as a Servant of God.

"Return" to Regain 1789

Lady Theologians
From this environment came the sarcastic words now, while Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi sought, the  President of the Pontifical Council for Culture with every effort to regain the alleged "return" of the Church in matters of women. By "return," the former Archbishop, Carlo Maria Cardinal Martini of Milan meant the 200 years since the French Revolution, which  the Church had to catch up.
For the 4th-7th February, he is holding a general meeting of his Congregation on the them of "Women's Culture: equality and difference".  It is to consult about a document that was "worked out by a group of women in the light of pastoral considerations of members and consultants." This group is about to become a kind of "Women's Council" as it says on the website of the Pontifical Council for Culture with great satisfaction. That would indeed be an "unprecedented novelty" in the Vatican. (See the report one of the new Consul of the Dicastery working on the document, the "erotic Buddhist" Pablo d'Ors - The "Erotic Buddhist" that Francis made as the Consultant for Cultural Pontifical supports women priests? ). D'Ors announced that will speak at the General Assembly in February on the admissibility of "women's ordination" and the repeal of the priestly celibacy. For both had, the Spanish priest, "the time is right."

Teatro Argentina, "Sexy Video" and Feminist Anathema

Excommunicated "priestesses" the Association "Roman Catholic Women Priests' jostle at a "diner table "
That Cardinal Ravasi  has a penchant for public visibility, is known not only within the Vatican walls. Thus, for the opening of the General Assembly of the Pontifical Council for Culture a novelty has been planned. It will not take place in the Vatican, but the most famous Roman theater, the Teatro Argentina. The reference to the homeland of Pope Francis is gladly seen as a  fortuitous byproduct. The event is freely accessible. To apply, a private video was produced by the Vatican's Pontifical Council with the Italian theater and film actress Nancy Brilli, which was released before Christmas on the Internet.
But who would have hoped thus to satisfy everyone, was wrong. Even during the Christmas season,  the feminist US theologian Phyllis Zagano opened fire from the columns of the National Catholic Reporter (NCR). The flagship of the progressive US Catholics printed a broadside against the Vatican, Cardinal Ravasi and Nancy Brilli. Zagano explained it was because of the "Sexy" way  with the commercial broadcasters to advertise in a style.  A style that "is obsolete in the most advanced countries and in majority of Muslim countries is totally unacceptable," said the feminist.
Instead of a "provocative" promotional video with a pretty actress in the Vatican, they should, according Zagano, publish a collection of stories of abused, raped, imprisoned and murdered women. To be perfectly equal, the feminist theologian listed the same seven such possible topics.

Karinal Ravasi in "Sackcloth and Ashes"

This was just the first blow, but the second one followed immediately. John L. Allen, for years Vaticanist of the National Catholic Reporter, with best wire there, even though since 2014 he has been under contract with the Boston Globe, he found  a statement by Cardinal Ravasi   statement for Zağano's attack.
The Cardinal "sank in sackcloth and ashes," said Vatican expert Sandro Magister. "Now I understand that we have probably made a mistake with the actress," said Allen who was able to quote the dicastry head. And promptly, the English version of the promotional video disappeared from the website of the Pontifical Council for Culture . There, the Italian version of the video runs on the English side to the motto: which no one will understand in the United States.
On the Internet, however, it is still in circulation if no longer desired by the publisher. The video CALL # LIFEOFWOMEN .

Pope Francis Allows Uniate Churches Worldwide the Ordination of Married Men

Eastern Churches United With Rome May Now
Ordain Married Men Worldwide and Put them in
Parishes
(Rome) While, according to indiscretions  the Congregation for Clergy have considered a dispensation from celibacy for the Brazilian Amazon dioceses, Pope Francis has given married clergy,  hitherto unnoticed by the media, a considerable rise.
It is now official. The Congregation for the Oriental Churches has published  new provisions approved by Pope Francis  that effectively allow the ordination of married men and married priests the pastoral care of   Eastern Catholic Churches outside their historical territories. So far, there were for historical reasons and due to old union contracts requiring special provisions in the clearly defined historic areas of the Eastern Churches united with Rome. Specifically, these were the Middle East and parts of Eastern Central Europe.

"Gravissimum scandalum"

Any further application was rejected by the Latin Church since the Eastern Orthodox practice contradicts the Latin understanding of the priesthood. Especially great were the resistors in America but also in Europe, such as reported by the Vatican expert Sandro Magister. The presence of married priests in the Latin areas would be a "Gravissimum scandalum" and would cause confusion. So far.
In "exceptional concrete cases" although there were sporadic approvals, but were limited by  Benedict XVI in 2008. But now Pope Francis has allowed  the Uniate Eastern Churches principle to be used and without any territorial limitation, to perform ordinations and married priests in the pastoral care of the faithful of the Uniate Churches. The document published by the Congregation of Eastern Churches  is entitled Pontificia de Praecepta clero Uxorato ORIENTALI and was published a few days ago in the issue 6/2014 of the Acta Apostolicae Sedis (pages 496-499). The document was already signed  last June 14 by the Argentine Cardinal Prefect Leonardo Sandri.

Prohibition Repealed in 1890

The question did not arise, as long as the faithful of the Eastern Catholic Churches lived in their historical settlement areas. That changed in the late 19th century. In the new document it states that there existed a problem of pastoral care of married priests there, who emigrated since  in the 1880s, thousands of Catholic Ruthenians in the Lower Carpathian regions of Austria-Hungary and from the Western Ukraine in the USA. There was fierce opposition from the Latin Bishops against the establishment of married priests who adopted Congregation of Propaganda Fide on October 1, 1890 with the approval of Pope Leo XIII. a prohibition against the presence of married Ruthenian priests in the USA.
This prohibition was extended to the other Eastern Churches united with Rome and to all areas outside of America and Europe that did not belong to the catchment area applied to these historic churches.
The result was, according to  the Congregation of Eastern Churches that an estimated 200,000 Ruthenian believers were converted to the Orthodox. If there were exceptions since then, it was so only after consulting the competent Episcopal Conference and with the approval of the Holy See. Since 2008, every decision was solely to the Holy See.

Reference to Anglican Personal Ordinariates

In the now published global permission, it is recalled that the Apostolic Constitution Anglicanorum Coetibus of 2009, the married former Anglican clergy were also de facto approved for areas that   the Uniate married clergy were previously denied.  That this is merely a transitional arrangement for the returning to Rome of Anglican clerics with family, while for the "Anglican" Personal Ordinariates, no married men can be ordained priests, was not mentioned.
The document lists the new provisions granted by Pope Francis that "provide competent ecclesiastical authority the power to allow the pastoral ministry of the married oriental clergy  outside their historic areas" and also assume the ordinations  there.

Three Possibilities

First, where Uniate Eastern Church administrative units with their own hierarchs (Metropolitan, Eparch, Exarch) exist, they are directly granted the power to decide. They are allowed the competence to ordain as married priests, Eastern Rite candidates. The only condition is to inform the competent Latin bishop about it in  the place of residence.
Second: In the diocese of the Eastern Rite faithful  without their own hierarchs, the same jurisdiction is transferred to the Latin Ordinaries. As support, they have to inform the competent episcopal conference. Pope Francis himself was in his time as archbishop of Buenos Aires, also an Ordinarius of the faithful of the Eastern Catholic Churches of Argentina.
Thirdly, in the areas such as Italy, where the faithful of the Eastern Rite Catholic Churches are without territorial administrative units and their pastoral care is transferred to the Latin bishops, the previous rule applies. Special permits are reserved after hearing the competent Bishops' Conference of the Eastern Churches' Congregation.
The measure has had no impact on the Latin faithful. A crossing of the Latin rite in a Uniate Eastern Church is actually not provided for because they are ethnically and culturally linked to a particular people. One might consider the new rules as a practical facilitation for the Uniate churches, whose diaspora extends through migration, and extends across more countries. Nevertheless, beyond purely functional considerations, the question of meaning and justification of such unqualified accommodation for a practice that is explicitly  rejected by the Latin Church.  It is normal as it arises from an exemption  and is to a certain extent, self-evident. Since the pressure of progressive circles for Pope Francis to the waiver of  priestly celibacy has abruptly increased, these circles will in any case consider the measures  as grist to the mill.
