Explosive Growth Forecast for the SSPX USA

Editor: The Devil is said to have once said that if there were more priests like St. John Vianney, he wouldn't stand a chance. Well, we're going to get a lot more priests from the Society of St. Pius X, whether liberal naysayers like it or not.

At the present moment, there are about 60 Seminarians in formation for the United States which compares to the number of French Seminarians, which promises enormous growth for the future. The Society has substantially more French priests with Americans trailing behind at at distant second, if this trend continues, Americans could be the ones supplying most of the Society's vocations. Also, ordinations have been trending down since the mid-eighties, but that trend is showing signs of reversing as the SSPX Seminaries are filled to overflowing. All of this is good, because the number of priests in the Society have been dramatically growing since it was founded in the seventies.

One cannot attend a Mass said by the SSPX as they are not in communion w/ Rome, correct? I ask because I have become so distraught w/ the Novus Ordo and am desperately looking for reverent worship, anywhere.

You are sadly misinformed. You may not only attend the Immemorial Mass of All Ages celebrated by the SSPX, just as you can a probably invalid clown/gay/puppet/polka Mass, but you may even give them money.

This is according to Cardinal Carstillon Hoyos. You do your friends and yourself a great disservice by spreading disinformation.

Here's the link by Brian Mershon if it would help you make a decision to attend and support the mission of the SSPX:

Oh, sorry, didn't see that you were actually asking a question, thanks for your interest an comment.

Thanks, I truly was asking in the hope that I might be able to attend an SSPX. Is there a website which indicates where they are via state?

Yes Here:

Anonymous,

Go to the SSPX website for the USA: www.SSPX.org

Read their material on their reason for existing. The SSPX is dishonestly and visciously maligned.

Read, think, then decide for yourself. If you have the opportunity to go to their Masses, or even make a retreat, I would HIGHLY recommend it.

God Bless You!

Thanks for responding before we could.

Why not attend an FSSP mass? They have valid ordinations and valid and licit sacraments. The SSPX has illicit sacraments because they are not in full communion with the Vicar of Christ. I pray that one day they may come to full communion, we sure need a hefty dose of tradition.

the FSSP are also very reverent latin tridentine Mass

"Why not attend an FSSP mass? They have valid ordinations and valid and licit sacraments."

Though this scenario would be great, the SSPX has twice as many chapels around the world and as such there is a much better chance to go an SSPX Mass, geographically speaking.

This is the case in my diocese where the Ordinary will not let the FSSP come in, though there is an SSPX chapel 67 miles from my house.
I would prefer going to the FSSP, but since they are not allowed here we go to the SSPX.

I find the SSPX preaching to be more solid, in any case and the deportment of the parishioners more disposed to prayerful meditation both, during, before and after Mass.

SSPX Priests are much better preachers, because they're not hamstrung by politically correct complainers who'll write nasty letters to the Bishop.

They may be great homilist's, but it still stands that they are not validly ordained. How about fulfilling your Sunday obligation at a valid and licit Mass, and then you can go marvel at the beauty of a High Tridentine Mass at an SSPX chapel. Remember that the Eucharist at SSPX IS ILLICIT because of the invalid ordinations. I pray one day this ordeal will be over.

Actually, the ordinations are valid but illicit, which means SSPX Masses are considered valid but illicit.

I could not be more sympathetic to the SSPX, since I have the good fortune of being a member of a FSSP parish. It's important to me to be in union with the local bishop, even though he tolerates more than supports our parish.

All statements by Cardinal Castillon Hoyos become questionable, however, because Pope Benedict XVI made it very clear, in 2009, that the current status of the SSPX is that they have "no canonical status and no legitimate ministry" in the Church. I think the Cardinal Hoyos statements are now outdated and superseded. Nothing resembling Cardinal Hoyos statements have been made since 2007.

A validly ordained priest who says an illicit Mass (because he lacks canonical status or legitimacy) DOES offer a valid sacrifice of the Mass, but he does so disobediently. Also, sacraments like confession and matrimony aren't even VALID without faculties from the local ordinary.

I know, there's this "we're in a state of crisis in the Church and ordinary rules don't apply in a state of emergency," but wouldn't it at least be HELPFUL if the Holy Father declared this state of emergency rather than presuming WE have the authority to do this ourselves? That almost sounds protestant, doesn't it?

I said I am sympathetic to the SSPX. I would weep for joy if their status became regularized. We need them IN the Church, not operating with "no canonical status and no legitimate ministry." Sure, there's a lot of nonsense that FSSP priests must suffer that INDEPENDENT SSPX priests do not. But the FSSP are free to make the same critique of the Church as the SSPX but from WITHIN not OUTSIDE the Church.

I rather think the devil LOVES the SSPX stalemate, because every day there are disobedient Masses offered in persona Christi, that most obedient example of all. I'm not convinced that isn't sacrilege. The devil probably considers SSPX piety to be a satisfactory exchange for regular sacrilege at the altar.

A baptized Catholic must stay in communion with the Holy Father and the Magisterium.
