Lifelong Secularist Jew Embraces Catholicism

Edit: it’s what Jones refers to as “Die List  Vernunft” where a Jewish daughter converts to Catholicism at Harvard and inspired her father to convert to Catholicism himself.

At Harvard a white lilly grows through the cracks in Boston Common.

We don’t know anything about the nature of Leer’s conversion, but I’d have more hope for his conversion than a lot of the cynics in the evil Bologna School and Magic Circle.

[PJ MediaAfter graduating from high school in Hartford, Con., Lear briefly attended college before enlisting in the Army Air Force and taking part in World War II.

While some of his critics characterized Lear as a classic example of a Jewish agnostic, in 2022, in what might seem an unexpected move, Lear embraced the Catholic Faith and was baptized by a priest from the Dominican House of Studies. Lear was inspired by one of his daughters, who converted while at Harvard. Despite Lear's many controversial views and activities over the years, as with his comedies and political activism, he kept an open mind and, even at 100, demonstrated a willingness to change course, sometimes in a very surprising way.

EPISODE DESCRIPTION Dr. James Tracy returns to Our Interesting Time to discuss his article “Our Humor Expresses Our Concerns: Norman Lear and the Politics of Jewish Revolutionary Laughter" which is published in the June issue of Culture Wars magazine. Dr. Tracy is a former tenured professor of media studies at Florida Atlantic University who was purged from academia in 2015 largely as a result of his personal blog and research regarding political conspiracies, media fakery and suspected false flag events.

If only Lear could’ve had Archie Bunker convert.

E. Michael Jones has the last laugh. His work has led many to convert even if not in this case.

Given the way the church is these days,
It must take a tremendous amount of grace to convert. But Norman Lear and Kirsten Powers took the leap. That later, because of the churches unwavering opposition to capital punishment.

What a paradox then, Nemo 5:08 AM, since Jones is now a confirmed sede-vacantist and, as such, is extra ecclesaiam. Let EENS adherents take note.

Jones is not a sedevacantist. That would be an improvement. The name of his business is Ultramontane Associates

Who is "PJ Media"? They cite "someone familiar with the situation" as their only source. Wikipedia lists all PJ Media false claims. Really did Lear ever renounce the American Way? Does he still support abortion (Maude (mod) featured first abortion) and sodomite marriage? I'm not reading anything about this conversion anywhere except from opus dei sites. Seems pretty odd to wait until he's dead to claim conversion 26 For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words, of him will the Son of Man be ashamed when he comes in his glory and the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.

Norman Lear, Jewish creator of pioneering TV comedies, dies at 101

"Fed up with the extreme conservative domination of the nation's Christian landscape, he launched People for the American Way in 1980. "What [PFAW] did was help with the understanding that among the evangelical Christian community, everybody was not represented by the likes of Pat Robertson or Jimmy Swaggart or Jerry Falwell, that the movement was much wider than that," Lear said. "But it also recognized people of every other faith and people of no faith."(Interview, U.S. News & World Report, Feb. 10, 2009)

Asked in a 2014 interview what he meant by calling himself "a total Jew," Lear replied: "Well, I had to have been talking culturally, because I’ve never been religious. But I am a total Jew. I don’t like prayer, per se. I like gratitude. So I don’t care where the prayers are coming from, and I don’t disapprove. Just keep them out of my face, and keep them out of the public square." (Jewish Journal, Dec. 17, 2014)

The New York Times noted his 100th birthday by publishing his essay in which he compared divisions in the nation in the 2020s as similar to ones faced by Archie Bunker: "For all his faults, Archie loved his country and he loved his family, even when they called him out on his ignorance and bigotries. If Archie had been around 50 years later, he probably would have watched Fox News. He probably would have been a Trump voter. But I think that the sight of the American flag being used to attack Capitol Police would have sickened him."

Years ago he recommended having a national "conversation about how we can’t have this anymore. We’ve been killing ourselves, and each other, in the name of God more than anything else. That’s got to stop at some point." (Jewish Journal, Dec. 17, 2014)

What's gotten short shrift, he said, is embracing our common humanity. "My bumper sticker reads 'Just Another Version Of You,' and I believe it. America’s forgotten that and thinks it’s God’s chosen and it behaves that way too often." (Deadline.com, Oct. 5, 2014)

...He died at home in Los Angeles at age 101. Jon LaPook, his son-in-law, said that near the end, the family was gathered around singing songs from "Les Mis" and some from Lear's TV shows. He was survived by his wife, Lyn, and all of his children. (D. 2023)" [no our fathers or hail marys no crucifix? real catholic!]

"However, Lear has said the moment which inspired his lifetime of advocacy was another event which he experienced at the age of nine, when he first came across antisemitic Catholic radio priest Father Charles Coughlin while tinkering with his crystal radio set.[12] After hearing more of Coughlin's radio sermons, Lear said he found Coughlin would promote antisemitism by targeting people whom Jews considered to be "great heroes", such as US President Franklin Roosevelt.[13]

Writer-producer Norman Lear in 1971 created TV’s first sympathetic gay, Archie’s pal on “All in the Family.” In ’75, “Hot L Baltimore” had the first gay couple as series regulars. Lear also founded People for the American Way and wrote “Even This I Get to Experience.”
