RIP Father Georg Ratzinger


Pope Benedict XVI's brother  passed away in Regensburg this morning.


 Regensburg (kath.net) cathedral bandmaster Georg Ratzinger, the brother of Pope Benedict XVI.  passed away in Regensburg this morning.  The former director of the world-famous Regensburg Cathedral Sparrows was 96 years old.  The Pope Emeritus had recently visited him.  Georg Ratzinger was born on January 15, 1924, when he was 11 he played the church organ.  After joining in 1935, he entered the small seminary in Traunstein.  There he received his first professional instrumental lessons.  In 1946 he entered the seminary of the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising together with his younger brother Joseph and studied church music.  After ordination in 1951, he became choir director in Traunstein and later in 1964 cathedral conductor of the Cathedral Sparrows.

From what I read, Benedict XVI when he visited Germany last week for his brother, though looking frail, actually held up well, and visited numerous sitesincluding his old home and was applauded by those who saw him. I wonder if he will return for his brother's funeral next week?
