Pope Assigns Another Controversial Ordinary to a Major Archdiocese

Edit: Old Liberal "crux now" can barely contain its enthusiasm for the next seamless garment, Bernardin, "moderate" appointment by the allegedly misunderstood Pope Bergoglio.

The new ordinary of San Diego was consecrated by Archbishop George Hugh Niederauer, who retired  with his partner, Cardinal Levada, to a cute residence in Long Beech, California, just outside of Los Angeles, as Pope Benedict's retirement played out.  The average cost of a home in Long Beech is a little less than half-a-million dollars.

Meanwhile, Whispers in the Loggia believes this appointment will be difficult for military retirees and military personnel in San Diego, since he's a peacenik who writes for "America".

[Crux] Robert W. McElroy, an auxiliary bishop in San Francisco and a leader in the Catholic Church’s social justice wing, will be named to head of the Diocese of San Diego Tuesday, Crux has learned.
The announcement will be made official Tuesday morning in Rome, with an installation date of April 15. McElroy, 61, has written extensively about the Church’s social justice mission, promoting Catholic engagement with society that places economic and human rights issues on par with abortion and same-sex marriage.
“We are called to see the issues of abortion and poverty, marriage and immigrant rights, euthanasia and war, religious liberty and restorative justice, not as competing alternatives often set within a partisan framework, but as a complementary continuum of life and dignity,” he wrote in America magazine in October 2013.

If only we could get Francis to consecrate Russia now, that will fix all the problems. Lol. I did a preventative strike on those who are going to say that. See how silly it sounds guys?

After looking at news articles and photos, I conclude that this sleek-looking social justice warrior really does have a problem with hunger.

I think Pope Francis has made a splendid decision in appointing Bishop McElroy to San Diego. The same goes for providing the Catholic community of Chicago with Archbishop Cupich and the people of Burlington VT with BIshop Coyne as their new chief pastor.

Hey Gabriel, I think Catholic Answers is looking for a new apologist. You'd be a great fit! Can you please show us some mercy and take your toxic and diabolical opinions elsewhere?

It seems Bergoglio has hit his stride. For the first year or so, he played cute little games with the dopes on the neo-con Catholic right and convinced them he was really their side. When he'd get a little too far to the left, he'd simply mention the Devil and Confession and the neo-cons would swoon and say, "See. He's really on our side."

Once Bergoglio had reeled them in, though, then he started with his assault. He destroyed the FFI as a warning shot to TLM supporters, he choose to elevate Kasper's heresy as a message about where he stood on the Synod, and now he's moving to reshape the American episcopate through choices like Cupich and McElroy. It's this final point that really shows what his game is and that's the total and complete conversion of the Church from a religion into a social justice movement that's the spiritual arm of global liberalism.

In some ways, you have to give Bergoglio credit. He and his liberal allies had a plan and they're following it quickly and effectively. Conservatives are never that smart or effective. If he's still in charge in another five years (which I fully expect), the Church of Ratzinger, such as it was, will have ceased to exist. He will have irrevocably changed the Church and enshrined his vision in the College.

I'm sorry for the gloomy view, but Bergoglio is close to a total victory just two years into his time at the top. The vast majority of bishops and Cardinals thought to be conservative have either capitulated or are simply too scared to talk. And those who do talk have been effectively marginalized by Bergoglio's actions and the worldwide press.

Even if Bergoglio were to resign today, it's hard to see how things would improve. Almost certainly, Tagle or Perolin would succeed him since the College has been shifted to the left by Bergoglio's 40 or so appointments in just two years.

lol yeah that whole Catholic religion thing is so dumb. Fatima apparitions are sooo Old Testament and have no place in the modern world. Good thing St. John XXIII liberated us from traditionalist Catholicism and that infantile belief of God's omnipotence (how do we know God is omnipotent if we don't even know of he/she exists?)

Also trusting Mary to fix the world is offensive to protestants. Catholics should stop believing in Marian apparitions because they make other people feel bad.

Thank the liberating apostles Darwin and Marx that Francis doesn't believe in that bead counting nonsense and laughs at it as being pelagian nonsense. Everyone knows that miracles don't exist and the Bible was just being symbolic.

Sincerely,

Two things will happen:

1. The FSSP priests will have to censor their own sermons... again.

2. Catholic Answers will become even more liberal. Because neo-Catholcs are forced to do mental gymnastics trying to explain away the latest modernist novelties, they always end up accepting those novelties to a certain degree.

I wonder if the smoke of Satan smells like lavender?

Constantine had an apparition. He obeyed God and conquered Rome under the sign of the Cross. Europe eventually converted to the Catholic Faith due to obedience to Heaven's commands.

St. Margret Mary had an apparition. The French Kings disobeyed God and didn't conquer under the sign of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Europe eventually lost the Catholic Faith due to disobedience to Heaven's demands.

The Fatima Children had an apparition. The Pope has until 2017 to conquer the errors of Russia under the sign of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. We will either have global peace or global war. At the end of the day, no matter what, the Immaculate Heart of Mary will triumph.

Not following the directives of heaven really is not too smart. All the machinations of man will be weighed on the scales of heaven's justice.

Mercy is not about condoning sin or making people comfortable in it. The true love of God first and then souls for His sake is more concerned for the salvation of souls than climate change.

That is the way we are heading and when that goal is reached the next stop will be the formation of some sort of christian-buddhist synthesis with a moslem 'pope'. A wild exaggeration I admit but one in the dreams of the global planners.

"If only we could get Francis to consecrate Russia now, that will fix all the problems. Lol. I did a preventative strike on those who are going to say that. See how silly it sounds guys?"

Anon at 7:55pm said this. And though it might be a little disrespectful to the Blessed Virgin Mary, it is nonetheless true. Russia today is more faithful and "catholic" than the Pope. And that is a disgrace.
By the time he is through (and hopefully he is gone one way or another soon), Pope Francis will have done a good job wrecking the Church.
But there is one difference between now, and the first time, when worthless bishops were appointed in the late 1960's all they way until about 1980. That is that now, rather than just sit back and accept these men, as we did in the 1960's and 70's, faithful, traditional Catholics now know them as prophets of a false Catholicism, a radical liberalism which destroys the faith. And they will be opposed by good faithful Catholics, just as Francis must be opposed.

We have suffered 2 years of Francis. Hopefully to God, there will not be another 2 years of him. Within 18 months, I hope we have a new Pope, a true Catholic who looks, dresses, speaks and acts like Pope, who loves Catholic tradition. Someone like Benedict XVI, but even more traditional.
Then the initiatives of Francis will be ruined, and people like this who are cheering the agenda now, will be crying then.

Perhaps so, but I never understand why people call for the consecration of Russia, when Our Blessed Mother made the prediction and request in 1917, right at the dawn of the terrible revolution that toppled the Romanov dynasty and saw the very noble but weak Czar Nicolas II and his family executed by Bolshevik fanatics in 1918. Then there was 70 years of the Soviet Union spreading the errors of communism. Then was when Russia needed to be consecrated. I think John Paul II did something similar to a consecration, because Communism and the Soviet Union collapsed and fell between 1989-91. Although Putin is a questionable person, the Russian Orthodox Church is once again the religion of the State, and enjoys full freedom although agter 70 years of Communism, not many are true adherents to any religion. So I don't understand why people still call for this. Unless the Blessed Virgin Mary knows that Russia will rise yet again as an evil power in the world. It isn't really at present.
Instead of the conversion of Russia, I think we should pray to be rid of Pope Francis, and ALL of his associates and agenda.

Lucius,

My point was Putin sacking Rome and killing the pope is more likely to fix the situation than the Pope consecrating Russia, since the Papacy is too corrupt to consecrate anything. Not that I want that to happen...just saying, it would have more of an effect in solving the problems.

I think Francis leaves as soon as Obama leaves, just like Benedict quit not long after Bush was out. The modern popes correspond exactly to their American counterparts. Benedict = Bush. Francis = Obama. The next pope will enter perhaps a year after Hillary gets in, and will have the same personality as Hillary....LORD HAVE MERCY!

@Gabriel, "abrogated"? I think you abdicated. But in any case, he didn't abdicate. He was forced out by the Vatican secret government that told him Francis was going to be the new pope and he had to go along with it or they'd leak lies claiming he was a sex abuser. So he "abrogated" with a gun to his head.

Lynda,

"The consecration of Russia as a request of the Mother of God is for the good of the whole World, and the Church. "

Have you even read the text of the 2nd Secret?

"You have seen hell where the souls of poor sinners go. To save them, God wishes to establish in the world devotion to my Immaculate Heart. If what I say to you is done, many souls will be saved and there will be peace. The war is going to end: but if people do not cease offending God, a worse one will break out during the Pontificate of Pope Pius XI....To prevent this, I shall come to ask for the Consecration of Russia to my Immaculate Heart...."

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Pontificate of Pope Pius XI ended a long time ago, didn't it? Somehow I thought we were on Bergoglio now. I guess I was wrong. Apparently some people think Pius XI is still pope...who would have thunk it?

Perhaps I'm being simplistic but if I were pope during the 1930's and had before me the Fatima documents and diplomatic reports of the persecutions and mass murders occurring in Soviet Russia, I would rush out of my office and organize the necessary consecration of Russia. So why wasn't it done? Perhaps for these reasons:
1. The pope didn't believe the Fatima messages.
2. Vatican insiders advising him were of the opinion the soviet 'experiment' should be allowed to proceed.
3. He considered the Soviet Union to be a necessary first step in 'world unification'.
4. He was constrained and prevented by powerful external political forces.
However, the Soviet Union collapsed due to its internal contradictions, and reborn Russia now appears to stand in opposition to the strident globalist push emanating from North America, Britain and France. To achieve a global state national states and popular national feelings have to be dissolved. The chosen solvents appear to be abortion, mass migrations and genderism. Is the Church opposing these forces? Only ineffectually. I conclude that the Catholic Church, by definition universal, sees a big future for itself in a globalized world and is willing to tolerate a period of moral chaos as the price that must be paid.
If this is an accurate summary then the Vatican is indeed a master of 'Real Politik'!

I still think we are oing to wake up one morning and turn on our TV's and hear on CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, etc. that Pope Francis has suddenly died. I don't know why I feel it. Every time I see him, every time I hear that he has made another radical liberal appointment, statement or agenda, I feel that even though he is pushing this agenda and his supporters are cheering....his time is almost up. Don't be too surprised if it happens.

"So why wasn't it done?" I did a google search yesterday that took me to a document on the Vatican website stating that JPII did indeed consecrate Russia to Mary...so in your face all you Russia haters. There's also a timeline on EWTN showing that the consecration was done by Pius XII, Paul VI, and John Paul II all three...so why do you Russia haters just keep on and on with this nonsense???????? Does every pope have to do it twice daily to satisfy you????

Russia not the enemy? Are you a KGB agent or some ignorant Westerner?

Russia is more evil now than it was under the Soviets. Pornography, prostitution and drugs are widespread and those things virtually didn't exist under the Soviets. Gangs are terrorizing major cities and the legal system is beyond corrupt. There's alcoholics littering the streets and alcoholism plagues the country more than ever before. Russia was and maybe still is the biggest exporter of child pornography. Russia had the highest number of abortions per woman of child-bearing age in the world according to UN data as of 2010. The RoC is filled with KGB agents from top to bottom and has been for almost 100 years, including Metropolitan John. Putin is a ruthless dictator who murders his critics and is an aggressive imperialist who tyrannized Chechnya, Georgia, and now Ukraine.

Russia and its schismatic Church is evil. One of the errors of Russia is divorce, speaking of which the "pious" dictator Putin did the most Christian thing ever by divorcing his wife and committing adultery with a gymnast half his age - what a holy man! Allowing divorce and remarriage is one of the marks of schism and rejecting God's Divine order. http://www.audiosancto.org/sermon/20141005-Errors-of-Russia-Schism-and-Divorce.html

The Fatima prophecy predicted everything that is happening today, including the current modernist crisis in the Catholic Church. It also predicted the 2nd world war with deadly accuracy. http://gloria.tv/media/yW2KLf6jFcF

Russia has never been consecrated properly. For the consecration to be done properly the Pope has to specifically mention Russia in union with all the bishops of the world.

The Popes who had access to the Secret of Fatima before 1960, should have used the information in a timely manner to bring peace to the world. They chose not to do so. Pius XII was the only Pope to Consecrate Russia by name, but the Bishops of the world did not take part as requested by Our Lady of the Rosary at Fatima.

John Paul II = Reagan

If Hillary gets elected maybe the Church will get Tagle. If Jeb Bush gets elected maybe we'll get a Scola or Mueller. But that's all speculation and games. I'm just hoping someone like Sarah becomes pope.

"Don't be too sure about the Catholic Answers prediction...they're under new (and excellent!) helmsmanship....watch and see them return to some sanity."

If Susan is referring to Chris Check - don't hold your breath. Not so long ago, Mr. Check gave an embarrassing talk on the Galileo affair that completely misrepresented the Church's position. And, as a "professional apologist" who commands a six-figure income, if he can't honestly and accurately defend the Church on such a pivotal moment in Her history, then he should probably take a permanent powder (as CA should have done years ago)

Anonymous said...

Ryan,

I'm basing this off sermons I've heard. What I've noticed is that they don't mention "the problem" by name in order to avoid being punished by the diocese. One example I can directly link to is the YouCat Catechism, in one sermon the priest completely rips apart the errors and heresies in the YouCat but doesn't ever mention it by name (http://www.audiosancto.org/sermon/20140628-Catechetical-Nightmares-What-Religious-Books-Should-I-Use-.html). Another recent example are sermons refuting Pope Francis that never mention him or the particular controversy by name (http://www.audiosancto.org/sermon/20130804-Who-are-the-Pelagians.html)

Those are just two examples off the top of my head. Many FSSP priests have an axe over their heads and can't say the wrong thing or the local bishop will finish them. The FSSP priests still preach orthodox and traditional doctrine but in certain situations they have say it a way that won't incriminate them of crypto-Lefebvrism.
