Old Liberal Bishop Appointed to Chicago: The Bernardin Legacy Continues

Edit: bars priests from participating in Pro-Life activities.  All of the major news agencies are describing him as a "moderate", which is code for just about anything but Catholic.

[Fox] Bishop Blase Cupich, a moderate who has called for civility in the culture wars and has embraced Pope Francis' focus on fighting poverty, will be named the next archbishop of Chicago, The Associated Press has learned.

Cupich will succeed Cardinal Francis George, according to a person with knowledge of the selection, who spoke to the AP on the condition of anonymity because the person wasn't authorized to speak publicly.

The Archdiocese of Chicago has scheduled a news conference for Saturday morning. A spokeswoman for the archdiocese would not comment. George, 77, has been battling cancer and has said he believes the disease will end his life.

"The people were reduced to passive attendance as silent spectators."

That is Bishop Blase Cupich's (on August 18, 2011 A.D.) assessment of the state of pre-Vatican II Latin Church liturgy.

During August/September 2011 A.D., Bishop Cupich had penned a three-part series entitled "The New Roman Missal — A Time of Renewal."

In regard to Latin Church Catholics prior to the Novus Ordo liturgical reform, Bishop Cupich insisted that "the transforming power of the Eucharist was not the source of their spiritual lives."

Also Bishop Cupich's three-part article in question:

-- The "old" Mass was incomprehensible to the "common" person.

-- Latin helped to make said Mass "incomprehensible" to the common person.

-- Many rites from the "old" liturgy were incomprehensible as they reflected European court practices.

-- The people were separated from the altar via literal barriers...a bad thing, according to Bishop Cupich.

-- Authentic liturgy allows the people to gather around the altar. Therefore, new designs of church's during the post-Vatican II years have enhanced the liturgical lives of Catholics, according to Bishop Cupich.

-- The Novus Ordo reform has revived the Latin Church's authentic and ancient liturgical traditional.

-- Some "bumps" have appeared on the road to liturgical reform, but the Novus Ordo Mass is a vast improvement over the "old" Mass.

-- The Novus Ordo liturgical reform is a tremendous success, according to Bishop Cupich.

I consider myself a sinner. In terms of holiness, I place Bishop Cupich ahead of me.

Based upon Bishop Cupich's 2011 A.D. article, "The New Roman Missal — A Time of Renewal," I consider his take on liturgy a disaster.

I disagree with Bishop Cupich's tremendously negative assessment of the state of Catholic liturgy throughout the centuries when the Traditional Roman Mass was in place throughout the Latin Church.

I disagree with Bishop Cupich's assessment that the Novus Ordo liturgical reform (revolution) has led to superior liturgy and spiritual renewal throughout the Latin Church.

RED

Vestments of red
Altar cloth too
Martyrs who bled
Did this for you.

Gold Tabernacles
Veiled in red’s hue
Martyrs in shackles
Hung for this view.

Red mums full bloomed
In water and brass
Martyrs consumed
Burned for this Mass.

Red rays of sun
Rose-streak the nave
Their suffering done –
Now red we must crave!

A simple internet search on this person will show that he "forbade" his priests in Spokane to pray in front of Planned Parenthood. That is all I need to know about Cupich. I wonder when Rahm will be receiving him?

To continue my take on Bishop Cupich's liturgical attitude, I searched YouTube for "Bishop Cupich Mass".

Youtube has Bishop Cupich's Installation Mass from Spokane.

Said Mass was offered at a 6,000 seat a university's Athletic Center.

The Mass in question was banal.

Youtube has a Mass that Bishop Cupich offered in Houston, Texas.

That Mass was banal.

Again, I do not for a second question Bishop Cupich's holiness. I repeat that I am a sinner and believe that he exceeds me in holiness.

I reject, however, Bishop Cupich's approach to liturgy. I believe that said approach is a disaster.

Should he continue to hold fast to his attachment to the Novus Ordo liturgical disaster, then he will perpetuate the horrific crisis of faith that has engulfed the Catholic (Latin) Church.

In fairness to Bishop Cupich, he has offered several public condemnations of abortion.

He has made clear Holy Mother Church's teachings in regard to abortion.

The Bernadin legacy - sodomy, sodomite clergy, sodomite seminaries, paedophilia, NO ritual abuse and AIDS. Yet another appointee of the John Paul II liberal modernist revolution sanctified.

The Archdiocese of Chicago is a nightmare of a diocese. Homosexual pedophiles, cover ups, satanists (the type who ritually sacrifice/rape people), and a Cathedral with some very suspect art work. It's worse than Milwaukee and LA, maybe even Amsterdam or Rome. The fact that Chicago wasn't turned into a pillar of salt yet is scientific proof of the infinite Mercy of God.

Dominican Father Charles Fiore called Cardinal Bernardin “a flaming homosexual.”

I don't mean to engage in gossip but peoples [eternal] lives are at stake here. Chicago is already a dying city and archdiocese. Chicago is a modern day Babylon, a wretched whore, or, if you're black, a ratchet whore. This new Archbishop is clearly ideologically bent, unlike many modern prelates who are just neutral career men. Chicago will be getting more of the same, not that it matters, since most Gen-Xers and practically all Millennials have left already. The only concern is that many Catholic Baby Boomers and WW2 Generation aren't being given Catholic burials by their fallen away children/grand children.

He's just poking the faithful in the eye now...just to do it. He's got a 'pen and a phone', and boy is he using them...he really is the obama of Catholicism.

and this was just rich, in response to bergoglio's reported "irritation" with the 5 Cardinals book being published....

"However, sources close to the Pope denied this claim, telling CNA that the Pope is not even aware of the book."

Does anyone, ANYONE other than Mark Shea, believe that's not a bald-faced lie?

and one other thing...this pick has Wuerl's fingerprints all over it.

Burke ousted from the Congregation of Bishops...Wuerl replaces him. Expect MUCH more of the same.

Cupcake Cupich and Msgr. Ricca shared the same Brazilian Wax guy at the Semimary, I'm told.

The appointments of bishops that Francis makes will continue to destroy the Church for generations to come. This is his legacy of heresy.

"The people were reduced to passive attendance as silent spectators."At Calvary ,when the Redemption of the world was been accomplished , the faithful there were silent ,cant recall them singing, dancing ,clapping ,and falling in the Spirit ,adoration is silent ,as the Mass is the reenactment of Calvary ,anything other then silent adoration is total disrespect.

New Ways Catholic Sadomasochistic ministry and Sean Winters endorse him too!

Cupich’s style is all quite a reversal from the bombastic actions of Chicago’s outgoing prelate, Cardinal Francis George, who just a week ago compared LGBT advocates to anti-Catholic groups from US history like the Know-Nothings and Ku Klux Klan.

Too bad Francis didn't have the guts to appoint 'fly' bishop of Chicago (maybe he'll have him buried as a brother Catholic bishop though)!

But protest-ants will approve. Atheist protest-ants have ended their own 'churches,' the inevitable 'progress' of reformation, but they will approve. I simply ask this, if morality 'drives parishioners away' how will social 'justice' NOT? That is a really good idea, imply that parishioners who have worked really hard and who are financially successful, parishioners who delayed gratification and sacrificed, are bad if they do not redistribute all of their wealth; parishioners who didn't just do it because it feels good. Aren't these the parishioners, the ones that ARE moral, that all parishioners should emulate? "We have to judge acts".

Yes, while they can. This will not go on much longer. Conclaves happen and the next Pope will lead a restoration. Benedict's work cannot be outdone. There are enough solid bishops, and young ones, in the U.S. to take up the torch. We have Summorum Pontificum and we have to Keep Calm and Catholic On!

Vox Cantoris said...

Benedict appointed this bishop, you will recall.

Diabolical. Reparation! Dear Lord, strengthen us in faith.

Tancred said...

Nope, he was a byproduct, waste product, if you please, of the St. Paul Seminary and created a Bishop by John Paul the Great.

Benedict moved people around, fired at least two Bishops a month, but it's very likely that they managed to get rid of him before he could do any more damage to the progressives.

"for generations to come.." Get a grip! Have you read NONE of the prophecies, never heard of Fatima? Heck, you don't need to do that just drive by a NO church on Sunday, it's DEAD, they can appoint Captain Kangaroo or Bozo the clown to the Archdiocese of Chicago for all I care because this thing doesn't last. We're not going to need another 40 or even 10 years, this thing implodes SOON. And in it's place the TRUE Church emerges, we just have to LIVE through these times to get there and no small task that will be if you read the prophecies of approved saints. Wear your scapular, pray your rosary,
