A Celibacy Breaking Careerist Senses a Change in the Winds?
Oberhaid / Ludwigsburg (Catholic news / CBA). Stefan Hartmann (59), a Catholic priest since 2001 in the Franconian Oberhaid wants to publicly confess on Friday to his 19-year-old daughter. The SWR announces on its website and refers to the talk show "Nachtcafe" at 10pm. As a guest of the program Hartmann wanted to report that "he is infinitely happy about his great daughter-friend and proud of her." The doctoral theologian additionally says of the SWR announcement that he had denied his child for years in order not to risk his Church career. "The long silence was cowardly and nothing good came of it," the priest is quoted as saying. Today, he serves the Church still, but confesses to openly living a lie, for which he begs your pardon. He was encouraged to go public by Pope Francis, says Hartmann. In addition, he was making an objective discussion of the obligation to celibacy for diocesan priests. The Pope did not want go into the solitude of the Apostolic Palace, "which can easily be as hard as the loneliness of rectories, which are often too large," says the priest. The priest emphasized that he wouldn't want to call into question the meaning of the celibate life of many priests and religious. The administration of the Archdiocese of Bamberg has been informed about the situation of the priest, said press office on request. Disciplinary consequences are not being considered at this point. Hartmann was born in Oberhausen in 1954. After studying psychology, philosophy and theology, he was ordained in 1982 in Trier, Germany. He has also served as a spa and hospital chaplain in Bad Säckingen and as university chaplain at the Catholic University Community in Vienna. Since September 2001 he has been active in the Archdiocese of Bamberg.

Being a Priest is not a Career.
It is for him.
Why would a pope encourage a sinner "to go public"? No sane, Catholic pope would encourage a sinner to commit such an indiscretion. Unfortunately, since it is Francis of which he speaks, it is quite possible. It is also quite possible that the pope told him to wear a clown nose and Mayan headdress when he does it.
This "priest" is so devoid of self-awareness that he doesn't realize he is a hireling and, as a result, no self-respecting Catholic would consider for a second what opinion he has about clerical celibacy:
Contemptuous name for one who works for wages only, and makes the reward his only motive (Job 7); through Our Lord's use of the word, it has come to express one who has no interest in his work and is unfaithful in performing it (John 10), the difference between the true and the mercenary shepherd of souls."
Apparently the pope believes that whether or not a priest (or anyone) "lives alone" is not a question of personal virtue, but of personality (and that's what he teaches Catholic children so why not fellow priests!):
He then answered questions posed by a few children, who waited on the side of the stage, close to where he was sitting.
One of them asked him why he had chosen to live in St. Martha’s House instead of the papal apartments in the Apostolic Palace.
“I can’t live alone, do you understand?” he remarked. “It’s not a question of my personal virtue, it’s just that I can’t live alone.”
“A professor asked me this question, ‘Why don’t you go live there?’ and I answered, ‘Listen, professor, it’s for psychiatric reasons,’ because that’s my personality,” the Pope said.

Obviously celibacy needs to be abolished! (not!)
The attacks on everything holy are coming so fast and furious and from ever direction, one cannot keep up. We must cling to Christ and Our Lady! We must deepen our sacramental life and prayer for so much is falling down around us--society, the Church (which WILL last until the end of time), etc.
Modernists are becoming very bold.As more indiscretions are revealed, and they are not condemned,we become an "anything goes"Church.
Pope Benedict XVI by his cowardly resignation, and Pope Francis have ruined the Roman Catholic Church in less than one year. Thanks to Pope Francis, it will indeed be possible to say that soon there will be nothing left of the Catholic Faith.
Thank God for the SSPX and those like it, sede-vacantist or not!!!
Am confused by time-line:
"Catholic Priest since 2001" - does this mean "Parish Priest"
"... ordained in 1982" - in Mother Church?
"...daughter 19 years old..." - born circa 1994.
My daughter informs me that it is common knowledge and admission that many 'Catholic' clergy in Germany have, euphemistically termed, "girlfriends".
Every week there seems to be one more explosive radical liberal comment this Pope has made that has to be explained away ore denied by the Vatican. If this Pope did council this "priest" to speak out, then "pope" Francis should be politely asked to resign.
He has done more with his comments to water dow or even repudiate traditional Catholic belief and discipline that a grassroots movement of faithful, traditional, zealous Catholics should form to mount a campaign for him to resign.
I was curious, because I remembered an old prophesy about a Pope who is extremely popular, who attracts huge crowds and much adulation and applause, but who actually is destroying the Catholic Faith by word, deed and agenda.
Take your pick, but that could either mean JOhn Paul II, Francis I, or both.
Oh, Anonymous! Well said!
But lets not fall into a devil's trap by being so disgusted with a pope that we don't pray for them. It doesn't have to feel good. We just do it! What merit is there in only praying for those we love?
Mario Palmaro's anguished cri de coeur translated at Rorate Caeli speaks for me.
The priest emphasized that he wouldn't want to call into question the meaning of the celibate life of many priests and religious. – In fact he has done so numerous times. "You can lead a credible celibate life if you feel a vocation to cheat nature or find no partner, but you cannot be "pro celebacy" because it is against human nature." One of countless patronizing statements.
Shows profound ignorance of the meaning of celibacy in the Church.
Its Luther's country, so what do you expect? They're just a bunch of little Luthers.
To whoever post this. When a priest done something that in the eyes of God and the Church is wrong. But bringing up things about someone else is disgracing that person. People can't live without keeping their mouth shut in criticizing somebody's life.
