Check again--two are from Africa... Cardinal Kutwa from the Cote d'Ivoire and Cardinal Ouedraogo of Burkina Faso.
Ahh, good one, point still stands.
How do these appointments look.
I've read that the new Cardinal of Quebec is very orthodox...he's been labeled as such by several major internet services (ABC News, Reuters, etc.). I read that the new Cardinal Tempesta,S.O. Cist. (a Cistercian monk), is not against the Tridentine Latin Mass or Catholic tradition. Also the new Cardinal of Perugia, Italy, is not against Catholic tradition, and celebrates Mass with the Institute of Christ the King, Sovereign Priest in Florence.
Since my own Archbishop, Charles Chaput of Philadelphia seem intent on dismantling our Archdiocese with his many degrees of closure (no more Catholic cemeteries...they've all been turned over to corporations to run, no more Archbishop's Residence, he plans to close most of our huge Archdiosecean seminary (vacant 90%, but if Catholic tradition ever came back it'd be filled again), sold/closed several Catholic nursing homes, hospitals, highshools, parishes all to pay for the priest sex abuse suits, and lastly abolished out Archdiosecean newspaper) I'm thrilled he was passed over. He's going to be 70. If he knew how much all these closures have turned people against the Church, and how much they hate him, he'd resign. He also ruined the Cathedral Basilica of St. Peter and Paul. After the benign and beloved Cardinal Rigali spent millions beautifying the Cathedral and restoring a magnificent high altar to pre-Vatican II magnificence, Chaput came in and installed a wooden protestant altar in front of it closer to the people. So I'm glad Chaput was passed over. Boo hoo Charlie.
Too bad the Patriarch of Venice, Moraglia didn't get the red hat. He should have....maybe next time.
Too bad Nichols of Westminster did.
They have the 98 year old Bishop Loris Capovilla , the former private secretary of John XXIII listed as of Bulgarian extraction in one list from a major news source...but I am sure that is wrong.
As to the mindset of these Cardinals, except for NIchols and Mueller who are liberals and against Catholic tradition, there are afew who are favorable to it. AND, if several liberal Catholics and liberal websites have been quoted as being disappointed with the selections....then it is a good thing!!.
And to think that there were even some of these radical liberal nutjobs months ago speculating that Pope Francis would appoint a woman cardinal...and even gave names. Later on even the Pope himself, when he heard the story called it idiocy to even think of it! LOL!!!!!!
A woman cardinal. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH !!! : )
We already have a woman cardinal in Washington, DC
The Pope doesn't like the US style and the Americanism thing. I'm not opposed to him on that one.
