I'd love to know what governments and units that the flags and banners that led the opening procession stood for.
I've got a copy of the Colliers Photographic History of the European War, published in 1916. oversized, about 12" by 16.5", bound on the short side, 144 pp. fair to good condition. 36 copies on Abebooks, all in similar or worse condition, priced from $12 to $250 and $300. The photos are all in great shape. Only the binding is weak.
It has photographs of all the monarchs and generals of the European powers at the time. And it has wonderful photos of all of the armies involved in the war in front line situations.
I don't have it listed. But if I could get $300 for it . . .
I thought I had something with the funeral procession of Edward VII of England about 1910. It was the last time that the royal families of Europe (many of them children of Queen Victoria) got together for a festive occasion before WWI. But I can't seem to find it.
I've got another three volume set, The Book of Progress, publisher: Crick Vol. I Man the Creator [modern inventions & manufacturing] Vol. II Man the Destroyer, The Mechanism and Technique of Warfare Vol. III Man and Nature (Man Environment, Soil, Home, Education, Athletics, Dangerous jobs, Curiousities, Psychology, etc.)
Published in 1915. The warfar book is wonderful, showing the primitive weapons that all sides were using at the beginning of the war. My fave photo is actually a drawing of a "bombardier" on an aeroplane dropping metal darts on the enemy below.
The articles and photos were taken from the pages of the Scientific American magazine. Three sets on abebooks, 45, 60 and 75. I paid $4.50.
