"The Hour of the Exorcists" -- Vatican Instrutions: Every Diocese Must Appoint an Exorcist?
![]() |
| Will the Vatican Require All Diocese in the World Church to Have an Exorcist? |
Such a call from the Holy See that every diocese has to commission exorcists, as the daily newspaper of Sao Paulo reported, was not yet known. In the coming days, the Vatican may have to comment more on this subject. There is doubt as to whether the assertion of the Brazilian daily newspaper corresponds to the facts.
The request coincides with a demand by the head magistrate of the diocese of Rome, who died in September 2016. Father Gabriele Amorth, priest of the Society of St. Paul (SSP), repeatedly criticized the fact that many dioceses had no exorcists. During his 30 years of work, his demand that every diocese should at least have an exorcist who was officially commissioned did not receive any hearing.
At the beginning of the article by O Estado de São Paulo it now reads:
"The Vatican is directing this year that the dioceses of the world to train priests to carry out exorcisms."
The Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum of the Legionnaires of Christ (LC) has offered a course "Exorcism and Prayers for Liberation" since 2005. This course deals with the different aspects of obsession, but is not explicitly addressed to priests, which is why laymen can also participate. It is the world's only university offering of this kind.
No diocese, however, has to send priests to the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum. The XII. Course "Exorcism and Prayers for Liberation" will take place in the course of the 2017/2018 academic year in May 2018.

Fr Hugh Thwaites RIP
Edit: it's very sad to see Father Hugh Thwaites SJ go, but there's great hope too. He was a great son of St. Ignatius and an inspiring speaker and an authority on the demonic.
"When people want to know why God created the world, I can't think of a more plausible reason than Our Lady."
Thanks to Father Tim Finegan and Linen on the Hedgrow...also listen here to several of his talks.

Suggested by the Devil: Gabriele Amorth on New York Times
The famous Rome Exorcist, Father Gabriele Amorth is almost completely convinced, that the attacks on the Pope in combination with the sex abuse cases were suggested by the Devil. The Devil uses even Priests.
Rom (kath.net) The famous Roman Exorcist, Father Gabriele Amorth is almost completely convinced, that the attacks on Pope Benedict in conjunction with the sex abuse cases were suggested by the Devil. "There can be no doubt", said the 85 year old Amorth to Italian TV News Service Mediaset as well as reported by ORF. Amorth refered above all to the attack by the left-liberal "New York Times", here and here. The famous Exorcist recalled then, that Benedict is a wonderful Pope and worthy successor to John Paul II. The Devil has used incidentally, even Priests in order to strike the Church, he referred to the sex abuse cases: "He attacks the Church through the men of the Church," for even these live in the world and might be brought down by temptations.
