Saint Peter’s Square Shut Down to Tours

The Vatican has closed Saint Peter's Square and Basilica to tour groups amid expanding travel restrictions across Italy due to the coronavirus outbreak.

St. Peter's Square and Basilica have been closed to guided groups but individuals can enter the basilica to pray, the Vatican said on Tuesday, according to Yahoo News.

The Vatican will close its post office in the square, as well as a bookstore and other tourist services. An employee cafeteria inside the Vatican will also shut down as a precautionary measure until April 3.

  1. Perhaps Italy could bow down and ask Pachamama to deliver them from this disease.
They could open up St. Peter's for the service.
Oh, wait. They already honored her there.

  2. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! What a great comment. :)

I'm not wishing it on him, but wouldn't it be ironic of Pope Francis (Bergoglio), who is apparently recovering from a "cold", contracts the Corona virus? Several in the Vatican already have it. Maybe Mariadiaga et al will get it.

    1. What about their homeless and refugee living now on the streets? Don't help those close to home? Is it just talk about distant remote peoples that we are supposed to help. Anyone like thinking to go out and smell the sheep nearby and give them food and medi asl help?

  4. Set the example Constantine, 'duc in altum'! as Jan Pawel II used to say.

  5. At "PW": No I will not the example. His Unholiness has to set the example. He was the one babbling about all those people, but he sits at home and cowers. The laeity follows the clergy, not the way around. Besides, His UnHoliness talks about helpibg the homeless, and I have always been against them. They are mostly (About 80%) psychologically ill and cannot live in a family. Most are criminally insane. Their families kicked them out and/or the homeless threatened them, so they had to leave. In New York State they were released by Governor Carey into the streets from the psychiatric hospitals they were housed because the haired brained touchy feely airhead otherwise unmarketable Social Workers would get jobs, and the State would not have to pay for the hospital inmates. Most of the homeless should be sent back to the hospitals to be properly cared for. Nothing but the gullible would give money to their panhandling which they will use to feed their drug and alcohol addictions.

  6. Is no one in the Vatican making the connection between the worship of that demonic idol in the Vatican a few months ago to what is, essentially, the collapse of Italy?
I believe that Our Lord has withdrawn his protection of Italy because of this violation of the First Commandment.
May God be with the victims of this illness.
The loss to the tourist industry, especially at this time of year, will be incalculable.
Forms of government have fallen because of disasters such as these.

  7. Thank you Constantine and James for two outstanding contributions to Voodoo religion, AltRight rumor mongering and the advancement of armchair theology.

  9. I hope a valid priest and one of the few remaining pre-1969 Bishops are bringing Extreme Unction to the sick.

    1. We still have SSPX,Thuc line, and SSPV clerics.
I still believe one or more of the remaining 30 or so pre 1969 Bishops will confer traditional rite Holy Orders before they die.
Our Blessed Lord is in charge, not us.
      God bless

  11. Pope Francis means well, but he suggested one of the most stupid things I have heard....for priests to visit people with the Corona virus. That is the last thing anyone should do....
It sounds mean on my part, and uncharitable, but if a totally well priest went in to visit the sick with this diseases, all he would accomplish is getting sick himself, and spreading it further.
It's absolutely ridiculous of some contributors to bemoan how few people are attending Mass, etc. Would YOU want to expose yourself to the possibility of contracting corona virus by going to Mass? I would not.
A family wedding might be shortened(reception cancelled), because of this virus. Thousands are staying away from businesses.
I hope it ends soon. The world will be in a financial wreck.
    THANK YOU, CHINA!!

  12. The Coronavirus is nothing but a scare tactic. 1% die of the flu each year; 3,4% die of this stronger Corona Flu. The real scary part is Turkey and their aggression under our noses. They are behaving as Nazi Germany did, and the Autistic Thunberg Girl with her climate change to keep her feeling needed; and her possibly autistic friends Francis, Merkel, et al with their ecumenism, gay rich advancement of privileges and their hollow politics of a false peace; will lead us into a war, in just the same way as Prime Minister Chamberlain promised "peace in our time", and lead us to appeasement to false and uncivilized ideologies and nations, eventually into war. Give the aggressor what they want so that the corrupt, decadent wealthy middle classes with their gay and/or 1 or 0 child life can enjoy their years of comfortable retirement. This secular consumerist pleasure seeking middle class cling to this ivory tower life by offering money and comfort for appeasement to dull our minds. We fail to see the New Axis Powers: Turkey, Israel, and China.
The Vatican has been accused of not doing enough to stop Hitler. This time when the new Hitler is revealed, the Vatican will have no excuse. They will be complicit.

This is ridiculous. Coronavirus is not a scare tactic. Tell that to the people of Italy, France and Spain.Tell that to all of us Americans, who have been forced to work from home and have our savings ruined thanks to this virus.....entirely the fault of CHINA.

I was in China 2x in my 10 year career as a male model. Where the government wants you to go is beautiful. But off the beaten track, where I slipped off to once or twice, and the people live in hovels and in filth. Especially in the country. Holes in the floor for toilets (or having to use basins), 14th century house which could be beautiful, but are allowed to be run down into slums, sewage running down the streets......all the things their government doesn't what you to see....perfect for breeding disease.
In Italy, the virus was caused by Chinese student tourists (proven), likewise in France.
In the USA, the first person-to-person case was a Chinese woman who came home to the USA infected but not yet sick, and passed it on to her husband and everyone she met.
    THANK YOU, CHINA!!
