Reported Seven Priests Succumb to Corona

.- A Catholic priest has died in Italy from coronavirus, and local Italian media reported Sunday the death of several others. No priests have previously been reported dead from the global pandemic, which has struck Italy more gravely than nearly any other country in the world.

Monsignor Vincenzo Rini was a priest of the Diocese of Cremona, close to Milan, and near Italy’s epicenter of the pandemic. Rini died Saturday.

Msgr. Rini ran Cremona’s diocesan newspaper for 30 years, and was at one time the president of the Italian bishops’ news agency. He was also a novelist, and a noted literary expert, who served as the Church’s liaison to the Cristina di Savoia Cultural Congresses, which aim to promote Christian culture in Italy.

In Avvenire, the newspaper of the Italian bishops’ conference, journalistic colleagues of Rini wrote that the priest “represented an open window to hope, the virtue that had always characterized his life.”

  1. Looks to me to be a very good priest. The issue at work here is the transformation of the Church into a world Church run by the laity. Priests are passe' and Bergoglio does not mourn their passing. I happen to be saddened by the death of a faithful servant. So far, no comment from the Argentinian whirlwind.----When he prays (or is it preys), there is an element of deception involved. He goes through the motions. However, he is no Padre Pio waiting for the stigmata.

  2. JBQ:
Without the priesthood and the Apostolic succession we have no valid Eucharist. Without the Eucharist we have no Church. If that is what Bergolio is aiming for then he is an odious heretic and an anti-pope. Not my opinion. It is the constant teaching of Apostles, Fathers of the Church and mutiple Church Councils. Catholicism is the body, blood, soul and divinity of Christ or it is nothing.

  5. Without Baptism there is no Church or other Sacraments. It's standard Catholic doctrine.

  7. @John the Mad: That is the plan, Stan. Malachi Martin defined the blueprint which was put into motion by Teilhard de Chardin. All of the principles are Jesuits which includes our less than beloved Argentinian.----The Judeo-Christian concept defines the priesthood as that of Melchizedek. There is a special character with priests being conduits for grace from God to man. The conduit can be evil but it is still a conduit.---This is now being redefined in light of a socialist mentality which includes gender diversity. The influx of gays into the priesthood has loosened the devil himself. There is no longer any right or wrong and priests are no longer needed to define it.---Fulton J. Sheen wrote the best synopsis in 1948 of what was happening. There is a new religion without a cross. There is a liturgy without a world to come. There is a religion to destroy a religion. There will now be a politics which will be a religion.----With no heaven, there is no hell. With no hell, there is no sin. With no sin, there is no judge. With no judgment, evil is good and good is evil. --- That is what Bergoglio is all about. "Amoris Laetitia" is his clarion call to a new morality. The virus could very well be God's warning.
