Priest Uses Pokemon Sensation to Entice Youth to Penance

Using the Pokemon boom, a priest in northern Italy tries to entice Desio teenagers to confession.

Monza (kath.net/KNA) Using the Pokemon boom, a priest in northern Italy tries to entice young people to confession: Every Saturday they could unload their "Pekkamon" in the confessional - "the sins [Italian peccati, d Red..] that hinder you from winning in life," it says on a placard decorated with Pokemon characters at the parish of San Pietro e Paolo. According to the local newspaper "Il Giorno" (Thursday) the 47-year-old cleric Giuseppe Corbari came up with the idea, given the many pokemon-hunting teenagers in the church square.

"Instead of meeting in front of the church to find something that does not exist, the young people should come to church, confess, to free themselves from evil," said the pastor to the newspaper. "And then they should think about how to better use their time: That is too precious and should not be wasted with these activities that might lead to habituation and dependence," he warned. To what extent the "Pekkamon" -action encountered resistance, was not reported.

  1. That sound you heard was my heart sinking to the floor.

Lord, have mercy on us, for in You we place our hope. Be not exceedingly angry with us, nor mindful of our transgressions, but look upon us even now with mercy and deliver us from our enemies. For You are our God and we are Your people; we are all the work of Your hands and we call upon Your Name.

  2. it will be priests like this one who will so easily embrace the upcoming one world religion (rev 13 15) of francis (the false prophet, the second beast, rev 13 5, 13 16) and the antichrist (the first beast), unfortunately so easily leading the hopelessly under-catechized and under-scriptured novus-ordo-ism catholics over the abyss. look at francis' latest video - it's about sport, a false god, nothing to do about saving souls.

    3. Although rather unorthodox, it seems like a good initiative to me. For all those youngsters addicted to the game and who have left the Church, it's a way for the Church to enter their lives rather than be hidden in plain site.

  3. Has the word - abstention - been erased from human thinking. Maybe try asking Pokemon addicts to stop......now there's a novel idea.........

  4. From what the article says, I have no problem.

The pokemon craze is stupid but it gets people's attention. He is attempting to get them to think about more important things by linking them to the thing that has their attention now. May not work, but is worth a shot.

Pokemon is sooo dumb, that anyone trying to use it is gonna sound dumb as well. But if he can save a soul...

Maybe we should set up those poke-traps (or whatever) for mass times or Eucharistic Adoration. People blindly following their smart phones might mistakenly fulfill their Sunday Obligation, and the grace thereby may lead them to conversion. One can pray...but on the other hand...
