Should Feybriel, Mincent, Rick R, etc... Comment?

Edit: I will continue to delete every single one of his score or so of comments he lovingly contributes every week, to make racial slurs, untrue slanders and creepy suggestions as well as plainly untrue statements about faithful Catholics and the clergy who serve them.

I often delete off-topic comments or comments that advocate violence of any kind and sometimes anonymous comments just out of hand.  I'd prefer to make the comments section at least somewhat readable and am wondering, anyway, what people think, if they care.

Be sure to vote one way or another. I'll take that and all the comments into consideration. Mincent is a clearing house of Bologna School bromides and platitudes. While I do think they should be addressed, some of his comments are quite nasty, although some commenters seem to delight in responding colorfully to him.

Winnowing-out the most odious and offensive comments is a must and I both salute you for undertaking to do so. Sometimes 'relevance' is a close judgement call; however, better to have a sure grip on the reins.

Keep up the good work!

Comments can be quite a challenge, and those who read them should understand the time involved. It's a shame that some would rather be the flies in the ointment, and it's appreciated that the worst of their dreck is rejected. Which I guess is a long-winded way of saying, yes, I care. If this on lone opinion matters, I'd say keep it up.

I think the most important thing is that people who post should offer intelligent and thoughtful insight into the crisis of the Church. It might also help if comments contained uplifting information such as suggestions on what passages of Thomas A Kempis' work might help one to live through these difficult times or more importantly what passage from Holy Scripture might give help. Catholic blogging should be a place where Catholics can come together even though they are in different parts of the world and offer support through this crisis and help through prayers and sacrifices to help preserve the Faith. I honestly don't understand the hostility in some people who comment. Most catholic blogs have had to close comments because of hostile or plain downright uncharitable comments. Pointing out errors is necessary, but defamatory or inflammatory comments are not the way a Christian corrects others. It also causes traditional Catholics to lose credibility because people then claim they are a bunch of shrewd and evil creatures. It stains the whole movement.

I think these guys should be allowed to comment and only so that they could receive a Traditionalist refutation. Unless they break the rules on commenting. Too many sites are now blacklisting anyone who does not agree with what the moderator wants to hear. Debating using apologetics to defend the true faith is important. But if they must be blocked then so be it.

I care, and I think you should carry on deleting comments on the basis you describe in this post.

Keep deleting them and block them. All they do is accuse others of lacking 'charity' when they themselves lack charity because they lack the Truth. They just waste everyone's time with their heterodoxy. The rest of us come on this site to read good or informative comments, not leftist agitators. There are plenty of other sites for them to spout their nonsense on.

I think there's only one individual who obsessively posts to this blog.

Any comments advocating violence towards others should be deleted asap.

I leave it to your discretion Tancred. I enjoy reading EF, plus you're not constantly begging "please help me raise $500,000 for this site ASAP or we'll go broke!!1!!1" as some Cat-Lick Blogs have been known to do while paying themselves significant annual salaries, not buying pricey computers or data center servers for their site.

I don't bother commenting at "catholic" sites that advocate Teilhard de Chardin's pantheism, Charles Curran's "Loyal dissent" or believes Pope Francis to be theologically impeccable in his every word and deed. I wasted enough time in my youth on silly things. Getting embroiled in comment wars with people who are 180 deg opposed to your point of view doesn't bear much fruit IMO. I will not comment on political blogs at all any more for that reason and others (see Ps 145:2-3 (DRB)"...Put not your trust in princes: [3] In the children of men, in whom there is no salvation").

Comments sections are ephemeral by their very nature. I'd rather do spiritual reading, attend a weekday Mass or spend time with family instead. I do think that comments are a good thing when used in moderation (intentional pun) and are an improvement over the days when we all just read the ipse dixit of some diocesan newspapers that used to publish the likes of Charles Curran back in the 1970s and did immense damage to souls.

I question why someone would have the need to come here and engage in what appears to be theological axe-grinding. It's about as futile as someone attempting to convert me to Calvinism via blog comments, just not going to happen.

"sav-on-a-rola-toilet-paper.....you're an ass. That's the point everyone's making."

Where's the 'putz' add on?

I agree with the above comments, Tancred. Most of the comments are well thought out and informative. The bile from the trolls are worthy of the cyber toxic dump.

Especially those which are little more than death wishes for selected Church leaders especially Pope Francis.

Good point about financial solicitation Anon 1:06 PM. Fr Zulhsdorf is a glaring example of a pretend conservative cleric with no permanent ordinary parish assignment who turns his incendiary tabloid blog into a trading post where funds and expensive goods are solicited in return for poor Latin and plagiarized liturgical comment.
He's a disgrace.

Seriously?

Actually Hugo, it was Savonarola I had in mind when talking about blocking heterodox stupid comments, not susan who rightly responded the way she did. Playing nice with these people gets nowhere.

Tancred said...

Left by Gaybriel, most likely, so he can crow about them not being deleted or say they represent the malicious nature of faithful Catholics.

Anonymous said...

Good point. That's the way the Left likes to work. Just like the gay who wrote a slur on his cake then tried to blame it on Whole Foods and got busted.

susan said...

Anon...'hugo' is gaybriel, and sav-on-a rola-toilet paper is his girlfriend. And you're absolutely right about not playing nice with the demonically infested. I take my cue from the great St. Polycarp, who when confronted by an archheretic who asked the venerable Father if he knew who he (the heretic) was, replied. "yes, I know who you are...you're the first-born of satan and a spawn of hell".

And feybriel, since you asked.....

putz.

The resident Virago makes a gracious return with a charming as ever blast of unfocused gibberish. Well done again.

You have a distinct advantage Clint R, when it comes to cyber toxic dumps.

Gaybriel or whoever you are, what is your point in being here? Obviously you don't agree with anyone or anything here so why bother? Just don't go on Eponymous Flower. You must have an awful lot of time to waste.

I think FatherZ is a great draw and an able defender of tradition. His blog is an important cultural and religious product, and those who despise him are bad people.

Ben B said...

Those who are sucked into the scam are deluded and to be greatly pitied. Z is a self-absorbed, narcissistic phoney. He especially despises people like you Tancred because you actually believe in something important other than your own self interest.

Anonymous said...

Actually I was thinking of the two porcine personae of the "catholic" blogosphere who are known for their hostility to most things in traditional Catholicism, one stopped his blogging a few months ago.

I haven't followed Fr. Z in a while. I cut down reading Catholic blogs in the past 3 years. I still read a few including Tancred because IMO, EF keeps a balance without resorting to excess (such as Savonarola-esque calls to depose Francis)

However I have more respect for Fr. Z due to his education & Holy Orders. I assume he has permission from his Bishop to do the blogging and fundraising. So even though I may disagree with Fr. Z on some issues, I believe calling him a 'disgrace' is excessive.

One of the gas bags I was talking about above routinely showed profound disrespect for Catholic clergy he disagreed with. I view him as a example of behavior to avoid.

Comments advocating violence towards should be deleted for Tancred and everyone else's protection.(Legally and Morally) Sorry I wasn't specific in my original comment.

Our local priest sounds like St.Polycarp.(in a good way) He will tell anyone exactly what they need to hear.
We have lost roughly 10-12 people at our Chapel in the last year.He doesn't mince words or idea's.

Feybriel reeks again!

Barnum said...

Tancred,

Please let Gaybriel comment until he evinces a lack of charity. Cut off all his commenting if:
1) He gets snotty.
2) He fails to answer a question after someone answered him.
3) He fails to act in the charity he seems to demand of others.

You have to be firm with those of a narcissistic personality disorder. You can't, as they say in the business, let the bearded lady be the ringmaster.

Rosa, I for one do not wish for the death of Pope Francis, I only wish he were deleted as Pope. Are you a Modernist or are you not aware of the evil of Pope Francis?

I've known FatherZ for about 20 years and I don't think he's insincere.
