Amoris Laetitia Makes Bishop Fellay Want to Cry

Edit: on the blog chiesapostconcilio, they report Bishop Fellay's reaction to the Post-Synodal Exhortation during his sermon for Holy Mass on April 10th at Puy en Valay. It was first mentioned at the Italian site of the Italian district here.

"... An Apostolic Exhortation which bears the title "The joy of love," but that makes us cry. This exhortation is a summary of the two synods on marriage. It is very long and contains many things that are right, that they are beautiful, and after building a beautiful building, a beautiful boat, the Supreme Pontiff has made a hole in the keel of the boat, along the waterline. You all know what is happening. Needless to say, the hole was made by taking all possible precautions, thus it is needless to say that the hole is small: the boat sinks! Our Lord himself said that even an iota, not a single iota will be taken away by the law of God. When God speaks, his words do not admit exceptions, when God commands, he is of infinite wisdom that has provided for all possible cases. There is no exception to the law of God. And now, suddenly, it is claimed that this law of marriage, which keeps saying that "marriage is indissoluble" (the repeats this sentence, it must be said), then it says you can, despite everything, have exceptions in the sense that these so-called divorced and remarried in this state of mortal sin may be in a state of grace, and therefore could receive communion. It is very serious! Very serious! I think they do not sufficiently measure the seriousness of what has been said. Needless to say, are small exceptions put there in the corner; that's how it went to Communion in the hand and as I explained with the little hole in the vessel is appropriate, the boat sinks! "(1)

I hope Cardinals Burke, Sarah, Müller, Pell, Napier etc. read this before they utter any more exhortations on the Apostolic Exhortation Amoris Laetitia, which has nothing to do with upholding the CC's teaching for the past 2,000 on Matrimony but is trying to destroy the very foundations on which it flourishes - love, fidelity, generosity, caring, rearing children to know, love, worship & serve God their Heavenly Father despite all the temptations of this life & the uncaring CC who wilfully has neglected their duty to properly educate & confirm young people in the faith. Climate change, environmental issues, light shows, accompanying sinners who do not want to repent through Confession & return to grace, everyone will get to Heaven so it doesn't matter, Hell (if there is such a place) is empty, an all-merciful God would not send anyone there. They repudiate Our Lady showing countless souls dropping into hell because of the sin of impurity. They wilfully disobey her request to consecrate Russia to Her Immaculate Heart in accordance with her Son's wish, and these men claim apostolic succession to the First Apostles!

It makes me want to cry as well. And my pastor spoke about all this today and it makes him want to cry too. He said it makes things extra hard on pastors. But people will do what they want anyway for the most part.

What a load of crap! Does 'a little hole in the boat' mean he accepts 99% of the document? Does it mean (when he stops crying because it's so beautiful!) that he's making a deal w/the s(t)inking boat captain so SSPX priests (including himself) will FORGIVE habitual mortal sin?

What makes me weep is the faithlessness of men who put a s(t)inking boat captain above the good God Almighty.

Anonymous at 10:01, I think you need to read this a second time because you seem to have really missed Bp. Fellay's point entirely.

You obviously don't need to pass an IQ test to be Catholic, but some stupidity strikes me as a dimension of habitual sloth and wrath.

wasted effort...that anonymous misses the point of EVERYTHING entirely

The danger in all of this is the Church leading people into sin via sacrilegious Communion or participating in one. The faithful within Novus Ordo should respond in a visible but quiet manner by abstaining from Sacramental Communion. Fulfill your Mass obligation by being present, but refuse to join in a sacrilegious distribution of the Eucharist. Make an act of Spiritual communion instead. You can obtain Sanctifying Grace via regular Confession. That's my plan until I hear what the policy is on a local level via our Bishop. Doing this will send a message. Let them choose Barabbas.

Since you're the genius, answer the question: Are SSPX priests forgiving adultery and sodomy during the year of mercy and beyond in accord w/ papal instruction to priests in Apostolic Exhortation Amoris Laetitia or not?

How it looks to stupid people (like me) is that Fellay and SSPX agree w/Francis or they wouldn't be meeting w/him at this time or letting the sacrament of confession which they administer be confused with the heretical goings on in the churches that follow Francis' exhortations--that lead souls to hell.

How dare Fellay hide behind metaphorical boats sinking, when what he means is that SOULS WILL GO TO HELL FOR ALL ETERNITY if they act in a accordance w/Amoris Laetitia (just the way bodies are murdered by those who legalize abortion and euthanasia). Communion in the hand is a discipline. Fornication, adultery and sodomy are mortal sins. St. John the Baptist died defending the law of God and to save souls. Fellay can't even speak clearly lest he offend Francis and jeopardize their BIG DEAL.

Your bitter tone suggests that you couldn't give a hoot about the good God Almighty and His Commandment to charity.

What Bishop Fellay says is exatly right; the Apostolic Exhortation of Pope Francis reiterates in many places the clear moral teaching of the Church, which is a joy to read. However, the danger in the document, the source of tears, is the personal conflicting opinion of the Pope that comes into play to undermine the beauty of the divine doctrine and open the door to abuse. This is how Modernism operates, slyly through footnotes and ambiguous presentations of objective Vs. Subjective. When this kind of stuff gets into teaching that has to be crystal clear, as God made it, then yes, a hole has been put in the boat at the waterline. And waterline holes cause boats to sink. Bishop Fellay is correct.

Bishop Fellay is being "cautiously" critical, when I think most of us expect a full frontal assault on this catastrophic mess. This "much is beautiful in the document, but..." is pathetic, I'm sorry. But hey, at least he's being critical and that's the best we got so far from anyone other than laymen and a handful of priests.
Cardinal Burke has shown his true colors. I await word from Bishop Schneider and an official pronouncement from the SSPX.

It would be nice to know if there's anyone in the hierarchy of the Church who has any fire left in the belly.

I agree with you Craig. The "many things that are right & Beautiful" parts are a dead giveaway of cautious vocabulary. However, as you say, he said something at least. Something that the Novus Ordo "conservative" prelates didn't dare say.

The SSPX is looking better and better....especially for those of us who want to be Catholic.

TLM said...

Agree Marc, I read a lot of it myself, and parts of it WERE orthodox and beautiful, only to trash the beautiful parts with anti Catholicism, and even anti Christianity in general! And Martin is also correct.....this is exactly how modernists work. Contradictions, confusion and chaos is their trademark. Francis is a true modernist, which according to several Popes, is the scourge of the Church.

Bishop Fellay was NOT crying because of the beautiful parts, he was crying because Francis ruined them all with the heresy.

Indeed Susan!

"hole in keel of the boat along the water line."

The keel is the bottom of the boat. The water line is along the side.

Correct metaphor: Hole in the boat below the water line.
