Laity in Chile Angry Over Pope's Appointment

Edit: he hasn't held Cardinal Marx accountable for assigning a priest who had thousands of images of child pornography on his computer to parish work.

VATICAN CITY — Pope Francis met Friday with the bishop running a Chilean diocese where there has been unprecedented opposition to the nomination of his successor, accused of covering up for Chile’s most notorious pedophile.

The Vatican released no details of Francis’ audience with Monsignor Fernando Natalio Chomali Garib, who has been running the Osorno diocese temporarily since its previous bishop was transferred in 2013.

In January, Francis appointed Bishop Juan Barros Madrid to take over permanently. But in the ensuing weeks, some 1,300 lay faithful from Osorno, 51 of Chile’s 120 national lawmakers and many of the 35 priests from the diocese urged Francis to rescind the appointment.

  3. Didn't Francis say that he was going to put a stop to this? Why don't the Chilean lawmakers sic the police on this alleged boy-boppin' bishop?

No photos of his vestments, videos of his liturgies, or thumbnails of thoughts and writings, just news of his arrest. How much more can the laity take?

    1. I have a really really bad feeling that francis will intervene, behind the scenes and under the radar, to take Cordileone out. Pray for that good bishop....the devil himself has been unleashed on him, and claws at his hide through demonic minions---the San Francisco "c"atholics. Hmmmmmm, San Francisco....coincidence?

    2. Can't one of the traditionalists bloggers just put up a poll on the internet and let everyone vote for a new pope already? These cardinals can't be trusted to get it right. So surely some way can be found to have traditionalist priest and bishops vote for a new pope...and get it done by the end of this years. I mean come on, this is ridiculous.

Pray hard for Bp. Cordileone....he is at ground zero.

    4. I don't think Archbishop Cordileone will be removed by Pope Francis. With the exception of those few bishops who become lost in their own selfism and ideology, Pope Francis wants a broad spectrum of views represented under the episcopal tent. Difference broadens and enriches the conversation about the Faith and what it means to be Catholic.
BTW, Cardinal Pell attempted to impose this kind of document on Catholic Schools in Sydney years ago. He very quickly backed off and it was never heard of again.

This will happen in San Francisco and, as in Sydney, the spin doctors will cosmeticize the back down to resemble a huge victory for common sense and wisdom..

  5. Pope Francis has been nothing but a disaster. He is a radical leftist liberal who is ruining the Church. The terrible thing is that many of the cardinals in the 2013 conclave played "follow the leader" and just voted for him without knowing him. Only a small group of radical cardinals knew who he really was, and put a "good" spin on him so that others went along. That was/is a disgrace.
I remember reading that when the conclave opened, some cardinals wanted to rush things so that we would have a Pope to celebrate the Holy Week ceremonies. A ridiculous reason to rush such an important choice.
Benedict XVI should never have resigned. He might have been pushed out, but I also read that he never wanted to be Pope in the first place, but accepted....thinking he could improve things. He tried, but when it got too hot he ran. Now we are payling the price.
Francis is in his 79th year. On Friday, he will be Pope 2 years. Two years of hell.
Let us hope there are not two more! God grant us a traditional, orthodox, CATHOLIC pope at the next conclave in a year or two.

  6. Well, God sent in a 'lion heart' (Cordilione) so we must pray that this true bishop will actually continue to insist on Catholicism.

"If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first." (Jn 15:18) A true shepherd will be a sign of contradiction in our sin filled world.
