End of Secular Turkey: Turkish Court Bulldozes Way to Islamic Services in Hagia Sofia

Edit: in a move that has been developing for some time, Turkey is going to continue to become increasingly Islamic, while the rest of the West becomes more secular. Nature abhors a vacuum but no one is even seriously considering retaking Constantinople.

Deus Vult!!

A Turkish court has revoked the Byzantine-era Hagia Sophia's status as a museum, paving the way for it to be converted into a mosque as desired by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The building was once a cathedral.

A top Turkish court ruled Friday that the 1934 conversion of the Hagia Sophia into a museum was unlawful.

It canceled a 1934 cabinet decision and ruled that the UNESCO World Heritage site should be reopened to Muslim worship. The decision was in line with the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s calls to turn the site into a mosque despite international criticism. The United States and Orthodox Christian leaders are among those that have not approved of the decision.

  1. A Successor of Peter allowing a pagan idol to be brought, in parade, into the holiest site in Catholicism and giving it a place of honor, has no room to criticize this move.

  2. Tancred:
I stand corrected. Bergoglio has been completely silent on this issue.
I made the incorrect assumption that he had.

  3. Tough. Greece lost the Empire and they lost Constantinople and the lost Hagia Sofia to the Muslim horde. Because the Greeks separated from Rome. Call it Divine Punishment.

I am no longer concerned about the loss Hagia Sofia because I know its a Divine Punishment.

If you want the Hagia Sofia back then the Greeks must come back.

I don't see that happening anytime soon...maybe a 35+ years worth of Chastisements will make the Greeks re-think what they did and the great offense they gave to God.

Until then - don't cry about the lost of the Hagia Sofia - you are going against Divine Providence.

  4. If the West and Christians everywhere had any backbone left, it would sanction Turkey and recall ambassadors for this renewed desecration of the Hagia Sophia.

As an alternative, Israel should be encouraged to bulldoze the Dome of the Rock and the al-Aqsa Mosque and begin rebuilding the Temple.

  5. As a history major in college, I find it sad that the Byzantine Empire ever fell in the first place, it received no help from the West to repel the Moslem(Muslim) Turks under Mehmet the Conqueror. But, the truth is that from the moment Constantinople was conquered and the Byzantine Empire fell, Hagia Sofia WAS a mosque until the over throw of the Ottoman Empire in the early 1920's by Kemal Ataturk and his associates. He was basically an atheist secularist, and his party made sure religion had no place in Turkish society. The minority Greeks were especially persecuted afterwards, and many hundreds of thousands fled back to Greece. Many churches were confiscated, and the Greek Orthodox seminary was closed. To be fair, many Moslem(Muslim) mosques, and also monasteries( yes, there are Muslim monasteries, primarily in Turkey but also in Syria and Egypt) owned and run by Muslim monastic religious Orders known as Mehvlevi Dervishes (Sufi Islam), taking most of their rule and inspiration from a 12th century Muslim mystic named Rumi. Some have probable heard of dervishes (and their famous whirling dances). They are in fact Muslim monks. They've suffered a vocations decline, just like Catholic Orders , in a secular world. Perhaps now they will grow again. They are fascinating.
Turkey, and many millions in Turkey, have an increasing interest not so much in Islam per se, but in a return to the glory of the Ottoman Empire, and the Sultan who ruled it. The last sultan was deposed in the early 1920's, mostly for his siding with the Germans in WWI. But don't be surprised if either the present "President" of Turkey decides to resurrect the title of Sultan either for himself, or for the younger members of the old Royal Family, which still exists.
Sorry to see Hagia Sofia a Mosque again. Typical that Bergoglio would say nothing in protest. Worthless individual totally unfit for his office.

  8. The Fall of Constantinople in 1453, was not any more a punishment from God, any less deserving than the sack of Rome by Germans in 1527.The corruption was so bad in the West, that shortly thereafter, Catholics lost Britain and France, and much of Germany. In the East, the Catholic Church lost Albania to Islam too. Rome was sacked because of its sins. Constantinople fell in spite of their good faith attempts to renegotiate a reunion. The Emperor Constantine XII, valiantly died fighting as a Catholic to his last breath. His friend, the Ukrainian Cardinal,Isidore of Kiev as also valiantly fought and was wounded on May 29, 1453, the day of the Fall, and was instrumental in what later came to be called the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. He was given the Honorary Title "Patriarch of Constantinople"by Pope Pius II in 1459.
It is my view, perhaps I am wrong, that a nuclear strike on Turkey is justifiable, We should use our very precise delivery systems to strike and destroy the mosques throughout that nation, both for its past evils as well as Turkeys de facto current, ongoing, undeclared war against Greece and Christianity using immigrants as pawns today.

  9. Naturally I support the Greeks. But they are 100% weaker than Turkey. Religion is a potent force in the drive and ambition of Turkey. Too bad it is entirely lacking in the West. What killed it was the Protestant Reformation.
Except for Catholic countires like Poland and Hungary, I doubt any European country, with the outside possibility of Italy, would be willing to engage the Muslim threat for the sake of preserving their Christian Faith. Hell, the present Pope we have now would fall to his knees and kiss the Koran before he would fall to his knees and adore the Blessed Sacrament in the Monstrance.
I saw Corpus Christi from the VAtican on YouTube. The tiny congregation allknelt before the Monstrance. Not Bergoglio. He sat with his back to it with an evil look to his face.
Past Popes would rally Christians against the Moslem threat. Bergoglio and company would instruct the faithful to start learing to say:
"Allahu Akbar! Allahu Akbar! Allahu Akbar! Allahu Akbar!
Ashhadu an la ilaha illa Allah. Ashhadu an la ilaha illa Allah.
Ashadu anna Muhammadan Rasool Allah. Ashadu anna Muhammadan Rasool Allah.
    Hayya 'ala-s-Salah. Hayya 'ala-s-Salah.
    Hayya 'ala-l-Falah. Hayya 'ala-l-Falah.
    Allahu Akbar! Allahu Akbar!
    La ilaha illa Allah._"

    1. Damian,consider praying for yourself,Catholic faithful,lapsed + devoted,and for those backsliding.
This era of complete confusion started before we were born & became the new dogma in 1965.
Have a Holy Sacrifice of the Mass offered for yourself and for anyone who is struggling or faithful.
The most devoted are consistently spiritually attacked.
Satan wants their Souls urgently because they are among the last remants of Christendom.
      God bless -Andrew
