Maronite Cardinal Warns Against Abolishing Celibacy

Edit: this Cardinal expressed these views in 2012. His comments only appeared on kreuz.net back before it got shut down by the secret police for criticizing sodomites and saying that a celebrated German comedian, a kind of Benny Hill, was boiling in rotten sewage for eternity. As far as we know, the webmaster, whose identity was discovered a few years ago after a nationwide manhunt, is still at liberty, but we haven’t heard.

Philippe Cardinal Barbarin

Of all things the Greek-Catholic Bishops, whose clergy is married,  have warned against abolishing celibacy.

(kreuz.net) On the 27th of Septemer Philippe Cardinal Barbarin of Lyon at the French magazine 'Paris Match' commented on the slow burning media issue of "celibacy".

"Don't squander this treasure"

The Cardinal recalled that Pope Benedict XVI had addressed this already in the first Bishops' Synod.

It was then that the former Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Cardinal Sfeir (92) spoke especially caustically about the abolishing of celibacy.

"Even with us, the Maronites, priests may marry"  -- explained the Cardinal:  "During the war in Lebanon, all of the married priests left with their wives and children."

No one blamed them for that: "Actually, the only ones remaining behind, were those who were married to their communities."

He continued: "Don't squander this gift".

"What do you want me to tell you?"

'Paris Match'  grasped desperately in the air, suggesting that supposedly twenty percent of the clergy live with a woman.

"A High statistic" -- cried Cardinal Barbarin:  "That is, as we would say, that thirty percent of husbands   betray their wives."

"What do you want me to tell you?" -- was the Cardinal's pugnacious reaction.

It would be natural to desire that people who are married are faithful:  "Even the Republic wants that."

Cardinal Barbarin recalled then that even civil servants officiating civil marriages in the mayor's office use the words "respect" and "faithfulness".

  2. Like Peter probably most of the other apostles and most diocesan clergy in Europe into the tenth-eleventh centuries.

  3. “And passing by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew his brother, casting nets into the sea (for they were fishermen). And Jesus said to them: Come after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men. “

“But he said to him: A certain man made a great supper, and invited many. And he sent his servant at the hour of supper to say to them that were invited, that they should come, for now all things are ready. And they began all at once to make excuse. The first said to him: I have bought a farm, and I must needs go out and see it: I pray thee, hold me excused. And another said: I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to try them: I pray thee, hold me excused. And another said: I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.”

  4. Congratulations on your efforts to proof text whatever you were attempting to do, Tancred. If it was to offer supporting arguments for clerical celibacy, then neither of these citations have anything to do with either the clerical state or celibacy. In fact, if you cross reference these mandates of the Lord, they apply to all disciples.
Even the Devil can quote Scripture so you are not alone.
    Text without context is pretext.

    1. Some are called to be eunuchs for the Kingdom of Heaven, and those passages are easily applicable to clerical celibacy.

But thanks for cluttering up the page again with your boomer tier, low information pop rejoinders.

    2. Those who heard it said, “Then who can be saved?”

But he [Jesus] said, “What is impossible with men is possible with God.”

And Peter said, “Lo, we have left our homes and followed you.”

And he said to them, “Truly, I say to you, there is no man who has left house or wife or brothers or parents or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God, who will not receive manifold more in this time, and in the age to come eternal life.”

  5. Eastern Clergy have a celibate clergy in so far that priests cannot get married. That men are disqualified to be a bishop if married, is established. The only thing different in the East, is that a married man can be ordained a priest by a bishop, if worthy. But in the East up to now, the advantage was in favor of the State that can threaten a family even though a priest would be willing to give up his life for the Faith. It complicates priestly martyrdom, and it helps establish the Church as an instrument of the State. This is today less of a danger in Russia, where pro-family freedom is greatest. But it is increasingly more dangerous in the West that is slowly imposing a "soft" "dictatorship of relativism". It is here in the US and Western Europe and Canada that priest's children could be subject to pressure, brainwashing and indoctrination. Even Social Services does take a child away from a father or mother if found that the child is not being allowed, or even scolded, to "explore" his or her "options". A priest's wife could also be co-opted into a feminist or political agenda, and threaten to run away from a marriage, or threaten to take the children away, have an abortion, seek a divorce, or bring a husband priest to court for "verbal abuse" which restricts her "reproductive freedoms", or her "children's sexual orientation".

  6. This is simply a pretext for the next goal - sodomy. Uninhibited, open, in-your-face, out-and-proud sodomy.
To be followed by sodomy with boys, then child sacrifice, then sodomizing and sacrificing the child on the altar, e.g. satanism. We already have abortion. We already have child abuse. The devil is a logical being, in his own, evil way.

  7. The term "Eunuchs for the kingdom" can equally apply to a Catholic woman or man in an unwilling divorce who choose not to remarry and to remain Sacramentally active.
Straw clutching is obviously one of your favorite sports.
