USCCB: Catholic Representatives Should Not Present Themselves for Holy Communion

KANSAS, February 27, 2019 (LifeSiteNews) – Archbishop Joseph F. Naumann of Kansas City, who chairs the American bishops’ Committee on Pro-life activities, has requested that Catholic politicians who support abortion should “not present themselves to receive Holy Communion.”

Speaking about recent efforts to "perpetuate and expand abortion in state laws" — such as New York’s Reproductive Health Act, which was signed in January by Gov. Andrew Cuomo, a Catholic — Archbishop Naumann wrote in a Feb. 19 piece republished on the USCCB website that such legislation has “illuminated the deplorable actions of some Catholic public officials and advocates.” Noting that these efforts will result in the killing of many more unborn children, the archbishop said that advocacy of “intrinsically evil acts, like abortion” is seriously immoral.

“While we can object to the actions of these public officials, we are not able to judge their souls. At the same time, we know there will be a Judgment Day,” he said.

  3. The majority don't care about the Church's Teachings or Moral requirements. Fasting rules even less. To them it goes on deaf ears. But consider the emotional and moral support that the people campaigning against abortion, euthanasia, family rights, etc. And the Catholic catechists that need to feel the backing of their priests in the face of people such as parents, leftist clergy, etc.,who scoff, even Catholic school kids that are cynical. I knew a catechist who taught that the most important part of the Mass is the Sacrifice. A parent complained because he argued that the most important part was the Readings. Naturally, since he was a "reader". He went the chancellery office to complain.

    1. Throughout history most people have ignored their bishops and the words of Christ Himself. That’s nothing new, is it?

    2. I think people are saying that, in general, the bishops are saying something different from what Christ said. That's a problem. So many people ignore it all.

  4. I'm not impressed by this USCCB pronouncement. When they order their priests to withhold Communion, then I will have some respect for them. Not until then.

  5. My priest refuses Communion to anyone coming to the communion rail improperly clothed. I have no doubt that he would refuse the likes of Pelosi, Biden, Kerry, etc. Does a priest really need a commandment from his bishop to refuse to participate in sacrilege? I doubt it.

Personally, I could not pray before the Lord alongside an unrepentant public sinner, especially a torturer and killer of innocent babies. Besides, the temptation to abort them before they finish their term on this earth would be too great. Avoiding the near occasion of sin an’ all.

  6. In the New Mass, one would not only be obliged to pray with a publically unrepentant torturer and killer, but you would be also obliged to gave him a handshake!?
