Newspaper: Cardinal Müller to be Archbishop of Mainz

Media report: In a counter-move
the Vienna Cardinal Christoph Schönborn (71) is supposed to switch to the Vatican and take over the management of the CDF

Kuala Lumpur (kath.net/KNA) Accordjng to a report by the Malaysian Catholic weekly "Herald" Pope Francis plans personnel changes within the Curia. This suggests that the former prefect of the CDF, Cardinal Gerhard Ludwig Müller (68) will occupy the See if Mainz long since vacated by Cardinal Karl Lehmann. In return, the Viennese Cardinal Christoph Schönborn (71) is to switch to the Vatican and take over there, the management of the CDF, the Journal reported over the weekend, citing "well-informed Vatican sources" on its website.

There were indications that the pope also plans the appointment of Cardinal Stanislaw Rylko (71), Polish cardinal and President of the Pontifical Council for the Laity, Archbishop of Krakow. He would assume the office of the 77-year-old Stanislaw Dziwisz, who has already reached the age limit for resignation.

The paper refers to a decree by the Pope, according to which the Council for the Laity and for the Family will be merged on 1 September into a new office. Its statutes were published by the Vatican in early June. According to "Herald" it will be incorporated into an office of pastoral health care. The new formation will receive the status of a congregation with the decision making power. As head of the new Congregation, the Honduran Cardinal Óscar Andrés Rodríguez Maradiaga (73) has been selected, a close confidant of the pope and head of the Cardinal Council for a reform of the Curia.

Another of the personnel according to the  "Herald" referrs to the Congregation of the Causes of Saints. The Vatican Interior Minister, Archbishop Angelo Becciu (68) is supposed to replace the earlier head, Cardinal Angelo Amato (78). The director of the Vatican Secretariat of State is to be the former apostolic nuncio in Lebanon, Archbishop Gabriele Giordano Caccia (58).

    2. I also believe that what is going to completely unleash the tsunami of Francis destruction and thoroughly plunge everything back into complete chaos as if there had been no Benedict and no John Paul, is when Pope Benedict dies.

Until that happens, there still has to be minimal lip service to those men and the past. I don't think that Benedict's death is what will really unfetter the destructive forces. Don'tforget, Bergoglio was elected for a reason - he is the opposite and was deemed the greatest potential reverser of the Benedict program.

I also believe that that is when the real attacks on the traditional Mass will come and definite effort to role back and reverse Summorum Pontificum.

    3. Meant to say "I think that Benedict's death is what will..."

    4. What is meant by "no John Paul"? Karol Wojtyła was an unmitigated disaster of a Pope. Who remembers Assisi or the Luminous Mysteries? Who remembers semi-naked cavorting a during tribal Papal masses? Joseph Ratzinger was marginally better in that he was learned and a thinker but he had no backbone when it came to a fight. Jorge Bergoglio is in charge and the church as one knew it, is finished.

  4. Muller while not the best, was relatively good for a post VII cardinal. Schonborn is a fag loving maniac. Francis revolution will be in full gear now.

    2. My heart sunk, too, but there's still hope that Schonborn might do a Levada. As you know, Cdl.Levada was the most liberally-rotten abp. of San Francisco until Pope Benedict XVI appointed him prefect of CDF. Then he straightened up to become most orthodox. Let's pray Cdl. Shonborn does the same.

  7. When he went to the CDF, Cardinal Muller was said to reject many doctrines. He was also said to be for liberation theology. Now we love him and know he's orthodox. Maybe the same will happen to Cardinal Schonborn.

    2. Anthony, that was supposed to happen when Benedict first appointed Schonborn. It didn't happen then and he has only gotten worse since. Schonborn is a complete disaster and a disgusting heretic.

    3. I would say Mr. Cerville's first 2 sentences are correct. Dutifully following in the footsteps of his mentor, Cdl Ratzinger, and in imitation of him, Cdl Muller suppressed some whims and more of less defended orthodoxy. In turn, Cdl. Schonborn will probably be a pale imitation of Cdl. Muller. Noble Cdl. Schonborn will defend the aspects of the Faith, if any are left, that no one controverts and reside in the zeitgeist.

      I hope I am wrong.

    4. Mûller was a terrible candidate, even worse in many respects than Levada, but the office seems to have changed him...

      Delete
    5. Maybe Cardinal Mûller didn't change as, contrary to many reports about him from trads, he wasn't a heretic. But anyway, many trads now look to him as an orthodox defender of the faith. Not bad after they first insisted that he was a heretic.

    6. Maybe we'll get an unapologetically Catholic pope sometime this century?

      Delete
    7. Anthony, quite simply he proffered heretical views, particularly as regards the Blessed Virgin, and in his support for liberation theology...for Heaven's sake, he co-authored a book on it with Gustavo Gutierrez. Those are simple facts, without the need to bash and mock 'trads' (aka: Catholics).

That being said, the office did seem to bolster him in defense of orthodoxy....God's grace works in mysterious ways with a heart that still retains even a hint of openness to it. Pope Benedict fought and rose past Cardinal Ratzinger also in some of his more liberal thoughts....he accepted the grace and charism of the office, and he taught well. He has ceded that Charism, and it is abundantly obvious, in these his last days.

Muller seemed to have 'channeled' St. Thomas a Becket and held the line against the worst Francis tossed. I have no such illusions about shonborn...he is markedly different in essence. I don't think there's a scintilla of belief left in that heart; else he never could have participated in the balloon mass (I WEPT the first time I saw it); approved of and encouraged the cowboy mass; proclaimed that AL is binding Magisterial teaching; proclaimed that ALL past teaching on marriage and family must be read in light of AL (and not vice-versa); done everything within his power to destroy his diocese and the small pockets of faith that remain; and on and on.

He is of a completely different kind from both Benedict and Muller. I certainly and always allow for the mysterious power of God to do the miraculaous, but in on-the-ground terms, I hold out virtually no hope that shonborn will be anything but the rack and ruin of the Church...a sadist-torturer on a par with, and completely in-league with bergoglio.

The gates of hell will not ultimately prevail, but with shonborn at the head of the most important dicastery, they will certainly be thrown open wide.

  8. I never expect anything good from heretic Pope Francis. The only good thing about this, is that with these appointments, Francis will be hated even more by good Catholics. The ill will he is generating in the Vatican and around the world in the Church I hope guarantees that when he dies (and I;m not wishing him dead....just assuming he won't be here much longer), the Cardinals elect not only a Catholic of more traditional thinking, but someone in the mold of Benedict XVI or even better. One good thing is with Schinborn at CDF, he won't be considered for Pope. I can just imaging the garbage that will replace him!

    1. "...pretend that the pastoral is doctrinal and attempt to codify it as dogma."

should be, '...pretend that the heretical is doctrinal and attempt to codify it as dogma." Denial and twisting of Truth is never pastoral.

Here is an excerpt from a TIA article on shonborn's 'vision' for the Church; 'interesting' reading that should set your hair on fire...

"SCHONBORN’S “PROPHECIES”….Cardinal Christoph von Schönborn, Archbishop of Vienna, called a press conference on January 16, 2012, to announce that the Catholic Church is on the brink of a radical internal change. These words, coming from someone who is considered a “conservative” candidate to the papacy, take on special interest. Below, I list Schonborn’s main points:

The Church that Austrian Catholics had become accustomed to is “a thing of the past.”

“The time has come to face the changes that have taken place in society in a far more serious way than we have up until now.”

Vatican II had already provided the impetus for inserting the Church in a free society, but an enormous amount of work still needs to be done, which will change the nature of the Church.

“Today we live in a culture of freedom, and this is a very good thing since it is when we are free that we are most like God.”

“Freedom is the best starting point for the convincing, believing and fortifying Church of the future - which will look quite different from the Church we have known up to now.”

In a free society with its manifold possibilities, the Church will be just one player among many others.

Parishes will be larger and “slimmer” in structure.

“Do not think that this [new departure] is a trivial matter for me as a Bishop responsible for it. It means saying goodbye to the Church of my childhood… But reality leaves us no other choice.” (The Tablet, January 21, 2012, p. 27)

Therefore, Card. Schonborn is telling Catholics that the very “nature of the Church” will be changing very soon to become “freer,” more similar to the world…"

    2. I agree! Thanks for your astute clarification. Bishop Schonborn is truly a deluded modernist. The nature of the Church is absolute, fixed and immutable, so it's true essence can never be altered. Traditional Catholic adherents are growing in number, while the Novus Ordo shrinks. When I lived in Europe, I knew a few Catholics, that were in the majority of practitioners, and who only went to Mass during Christmas but otherwise led lives indistinguishable from secularists. However, they were counted and considered Catholics in good standing by their local bishop. One day when it collapses the Traditional Catholics will be there to continue the faith. The gates of hell shall not prevail.

  11. It pains me to say this but I understand why people who don't know any better are joining traditional eastern orthodoxy.
It's not right but if I didn't know any better I could see it happening.(It's wrong to leave the Catholic Faith but with the extreme lack of Catchesis,I don't blame them if you get what I mean)

    2. Eastern Orthodox will get you into Hell just the same as any other unCatholic religion. Their excommunications are legitimate. Out of the Barque is out of the Barque. That is NOT an option for anyone who wants to get to Heaven. Besides, the Orthodox have their own sets of problems. AND they are busy trying to get back into the Catholic Church so even they know that they are not a life raft.

    3. I agree with you all as you can see in my comment.
I'm looking at from the perspective of people who don't know any better and who haven't ever had one single catechism lesson.
I have talked with catholics who didn't know what a catechism was or what the word meant.

    4. Speaking as an Eastern Orthodox Christian, how exactly is Catholicism any better? Your Church is in shambles from the liturgy to theology, to the belief of the average Catholic, yet we Orthodox are the ones who are heretics and schematics. I'm glad Francis happened to the Catholic Church, maybe now you all will see the dangers of putting your faith in one FALLIBLE man, and trying to "update" your Church. He hasn't even declared any new dogmas/doctrines, and look at the damage he has done to your poor Church. It seems like Catholics who actually pay attention to what is going on are just sitting around and "hoping" for some chastisement from God to fix the Catholic Church.

And believe me, it is not just uneducated and unchatecized Catholics who are looking into Orthodoxy, the Greek parish I attend has an inquirers class who is filled up with mostly Catholics and some evangelicals. These are Catholics who knew enough about their faith to read more into Orthodoxy, they have been spiritually decimated by Catholicism.

Why don't you worry about cleaning your own house up and leave ours alone

      Delete
    5. Yes, things in the Catholic Church have been very difficult in the last 60 years. And yes, the whole "updating" thing is a disaster. But before 60 years ago, the Popes were, for the most part, faithful Catholics. The Orthodox, on the other hand, have been unfaithful for many centuries. They allow divorce and contraception. At least officially, the Catholic Church is still against these abominations.

    6. If you don't know anything about Orthodoxy, I guess it would seem better. EO is so insignificant in the West, it's possible to live in a fantasy world without seeing the reality of it as it's lived out in Romania, the Gennadion or somewhere in Athens.

    7. @Former Eastern Orthodox...The only thing I can say on this blog is I hold the Sedevacsntist position.
We can't really go in depth without breaking the rules.
I understand where you're coming from as I used to think like this but realized I was extremely wrong circa 2011.
The Catholic Church is the one true Church of Jesus Christ. That is the one statement we can all agree upon.
There is not a crisis in the Church,we have just been reduced in numbers.
The SSPX and various traditional order's and group's (Sedevacantist and non-sedevacantist) are trying to keep the true catholic faith alive.
Yes we all disagree with each but the Shepard has been struck &

  13. DC Catholicism just links back here to EF, so my take is that they are misreading the initial report, which is, after all, just a report of what some news source in Malaysia is saying. In other words, just rumor and speculation. Looks like we will have to wait until after the Summer beak for the Roman authorities to see if it is true. I am preparing for the worst but hoping for better.
