Do Modern Priests Have the Freedom to Do Whatever They Want? -- Liturgical Abuse

(Rome) The traditional website Messa in Latino has reported on the correspondence between a Catholic woman and the Curia of the northern Italian diocese p * of the behavior of a priest incardinated in this diocese. With the following letter, the Catholic turned to the Curia:
"I do not know if it's the same priest or one of a similar name. I refer to Don DZ, who ought to be incardinated according to my search on the internet, in your diocese. It is important to me to report the invalidity of last Sunday’s Mass celebrated by him on the cruise ship C.M.. When the gospel should have been carried forward, the priest said, 'Let there be but these things'.  Instead, he called - I repeats: during the honoring of the Gospel - four people of whom he was asked questions in this way, 'What do you expect from life’ and other similar incoherent platitudes. I refused to continue to participate, because I was taught that the Holy Mass is Calvary and the sacrifice of the cross and walked away.  On television I could celebrate the Holy Mass  from B.. Friends told me later that Don Z. has invited by the faithful at the end to read the Sunday Gospel at home. I hope that the Church hierarchy is engaged in putting an end to liturgical abuses. I would want a sign of proof of receipt. I beg your pardon, I thank you for your attention. "
The Vicar General of the Diocese P. replied immediately: "Dear Mrs. S., I thank you for the message, it is a really unfortunate incident. I would urge that you contact the priest as soon as possible. Sincerely, Don PD, Vicar General ".
From a comment of Messa in Latino: "Given the fact that many priests, are only a little traditionally friendly, they must pay for their attention and love for the old Mass dearly, we are really excited to see what measures the Diocesan Curia P. will take against serious abuse. "

  1. It is the Vicar General's job to speak to the priest, not the parishioner's. Can anyone explain the comment from Messa in Latino? It seems to be in conflict with itself so it must be in the translation.

Mrs. S...if you have that much going for you that you know the Mass is to be sacrificial and expiatory, why are you attending a Novus Ordo shindig in the first place? That is not an option for Catholics graced to know better.

  2. It's a policy for them to direct the parishioner to the priest, as if the parishioner has broken the chain of command. You have to follow protocal so it's best to address the priest first so they can't redirect you.

  3. Can anyone tell us who do not know what the "theme" of the clown ritual is. It's basis must have a common theme, message, purpose. Otherwise some priests could start kangaroo or man on stilts "Masses" or anything "Masses". Why clowncentric Blasphemy?

  4. At first, I thought this was from Mass at the LA Religious Education Congress.

  5. People who do this and attend these determined Blasphemies
without recording and putting a stop to it are in league with the Devil. There is not explanation but intentional
    Blasphemy.
Many blatant abuses take place in Rome and are not Stopped !
No wonder the SSPX are not in communion with Rome.

    1. They aren't? That's news to me.

It is precisely because they ARE (as they are legit and have ever remained faithful to the FAITH) and because guilt made BXVI discontinue the lies of the JPII reign that it was found necessary by the enemies of Catholicism to invent something new to not to be "in" with...therefore the new term "full communion". Those who came up with that one are the clowns.

  6. I meant not in Full communion. Am I wrong? Can someone answer? And can anyone say something about what the clown thing means to the devils who deal in it ?

  8. No, anon 325, surely this is just a myth and it never, ever, ever, ever happens.

  9. Tancred, I am not in doubt that it has and even still sometimes happens. My questions were honest, seeking an honest answer because I'm totally baffled.

Let me attempt an answer to your question.

When you see all this abject silliness going on at what these people consider a "Mass", it indicates several things. One, that the priest has lost his Faith, for he no longer believes in what he is doing, has no concept of or belief in the Act of Consecration and is, therefore, going ahead with these stupidities because of his lack of belief...and, of course, his desire to "put on a show" for the folks. So in these cases you are dealing with an ignorant, shallow man who would be better suited flipping hamburgers than being a priest.

On the other hand, and more sinister, you might have here a seriously disturbed man, very possibly homosexual, who actually desires to ridicule the Holy Sacrifice and to lead his parishioners away from the practice of their Faith, and very likely away from Catholicism altogether. He does this by trite little blasphemies like the one pictured above and probably follows that up with explicit heresies in his teaching and private discussions. He, too, should not be a priest.

Regardless, then, whether this priest is just a simple fool or idiot, or an actual intentional destroyer of the Faith, he should be immediately disciplined or removed. It is the Bishop who should be doing the disciplining but, as you should know, many, many Bishops are as bad or worse than the priests under their jurisdiction. If one day our Bishops and Popes stop smiling and start getting deadly serious we might, just might, see an end to such travesties.

I would seriously doubt that these kinds of priests are actually confecting the Sacrament anyway. That is a discussion for someone more competent than I but I'd put money on the table on the bet that their Communions are invalid. Some fall back on the "indefectibility" argument, which states that the Divine nature of the Church makes up for any defect on the part of the priests in such cases, but I believe this is far too murky a question to be dismissed with allusions to indefectibility. There are numerous historical cases in the Church where Confessions were declared invalid due to the actions/beliefs of certain priests, not to mention marriages or other Sacraments. I cannot assume that such Masses are valid.

Stupidity and banality reign supreme in the Church just now. And because of that you get things like clown "masses" or - Cardinal Schonborn's personal favorite, balloon "Masses". Perhaps we get the clergy we deserve.

  12. Aged parent, Thank you. I believe you are right about these
priests having lost their faith and even belief to go so far
in flagrant blasphemies. I neither can speak to the validity, with authority but would incline to very much doubt validity. The intentional blasphemy and the participation by those receiving Sacraments knowingly are sharing in the blasphemy, insult, disgrace to Our Lord. Your saying perhaps we get the clergy we deserve is confirmation that "we" are equally responsible if participating in Sacrilege.

  13. Mm, the Japanese didn’t have a Mass at all for a very long time, and yet many Catholics there persevered by the grace of God. We’ll have to persevere too.

  14. Yes. We must persevere +
