San Francisco Will Observe Feast of the Lord's Circumcision

San Francisco (kath.net/CWN/jg)
The first of January is a Holy Day of Obligation in the Archdiocese of San Francisco for Catholics. In the past years the Archdiocese had dispensed Catholics from the obligation when the feast falls on another day besides Sunday.

The USCCB has decided that the first of January may be foregone as a holy day of obligation. It is the Feast of the Circumcision on the old calendar. If this feast falls on a Saturday or a Monday, then it will be celebrated on Sunday. The Archdiocese is following this regulation and is annulling the dispensation. The first of January 2013 is a Tuesday.

Since 4. October 2012 the Archdiocese of San Francisco has a new Shepherd the former Bishop of Oakland, Salvatore Cordileone.
