I bet if this was about cheating on your wife with your own adopted daughter, he would totally get it.
I wasn't going to say anything, thought it was self-explanatory, but I'm sure he'd like to get beyond that and "get on with his life".
He's been in analysis his entire adult life - I don't think he 'gets' anything.
