Marx Sounds Displeased With Vatican Ruling on Sacrilegious Communions

The Birgitines

Saint Birgitta of Sweden

Saint Birgitta of Sweden (1303-1373), the most famous mystic of Scandinavia, came from her mother Ingeborg's royal family of the Folkunger. Her husband, the knight Ulf Gudmarsson, held a leading position as Lagman in the Swedish countryside Östergötland. Birgitta had four sons by him and four daughters. After a joint pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela, both decided to enter the monastery. Ulf became a Cistercian. In 1346 Birgitta founded the monastery Vadstena after receiving divine visions. It became the mother monastery of the Order of the Blessed Savior (OSSalv) founded by her, a contemplative order with a strict rule.
 
The order spread mainly in the Nordic area, in the Scandinavian countries, in Estonia and Livonia as well as in the German-speaking world. Only to a small extent, however, in the Latin countries.
In Germany, the order perhaps flourished in the late Middle Ages and counted itself among the most  prosperous of monasteries. Birgitta founded a women's order, but provided for the celebration of the holy sacrifice of the Mass and the pastoral care of religious women that the monastery should also include priests (maximum 13), deacons and brothers. They lived outside the cloister and were strictly separated from the nuns. The leadership of the entire monastery was exercised by the abbess. The male branch was headed by a prior.
 
Altomünster - the youngest monastery survived the longest
 
The oldest monastery in Germany was Marienwohlde near Lübeck, which was built in 1413. Shortly thereafter, the foundations of Marienkron at Stralsund and Marienforst in the Archdiocese of Cologne followed. The monastery Maria Altomünster, established in 1496, was the twelfth and most recent founding of the Birgitten Order on German soil. It was one of two daughter foundations of the Bavarian Abbey Gnadenberg. In 760, St. Alto built a hermitage, which became a Benedictine monastery. In 1056 there was an exchange. The Benedictine nuns of Altdorf Abbey (Weingarten) near Lake Constance were able to move to Altomünster Abbey, while the Benedictines went to Altdorf and rebuilt the burned-down monastery. In 1496 the monastery was passed on a ducal wish to the Birgitine Order.

The visions of St. Briggita

Only four monasteries survived the Protestant Revolt, as the whole of the Briggitine Order was gravely affected by the Revolt's Nordic focus. In Scandinavia, under severe austerity, only the mother monastery Vadstena was able to hold for some time until 1595 when it was dissolved and expropriated by the Lutheran state. There has been a convent since 1963. In the Catholic countries, the Order experienced a second flowering in modern times, which led to the emergence of its own religious branch in Spain, where the Order only came after the Protestant Revolt.

The second flowering and the rapid decline

Still five independent monasteries of the original order existed in 2012. Today there are Vadstena and two abbeys in the Netherlands. Syon in England was abandoned in 2012 and now Altomünster has been dissolved.
 
The Altomünster Abbey survived the Protestant Revolt in Catholic Bavaria, thanks to the energetic Abbess Ottilia Öffler. On average, 30 nuns lived in the monastery and about 15 priests and brothers. In 1803 it fell victim to the storm of the monasteries in Napoleonic times and was abolished. The sisters were allowed to remain in the monastery until their death. Four sisters survived until the anti-Church climate subsided and King Ludwig I of Bavaria allowed them again in 1841 to accept novices. Since then  Altomünster has existed as a pure convent.

In 1947 the convent counted 62 nuns. Such a high number was reached only in the early 16th century. Today, only one Briggitine lives in Altomünster, the former prioress Apollonia Buchinger, which is why the Vatican had already ordered the abolition of the monastery in 2015. On the other hand, as it turned out, the only nun struggled unsuccessfully. Sr. Apollonia had to leave the monastery in February 2017. A candidate, who wanted to enter as a postulate, is now the subject of a lawsuit against the abolition of the monastery, which was decided with the verdict of the Apostolic Signatura. The archdiocese of Munich-Freising, which owns the properties, successfully attempted an eviction procedure before Bavarian courts.
 
A new Birgitine monastery in Bremen belongs to the third female branch, which was founded in 1911 by the Swedish convert Elisabeth Hesselblad in the tradition of the Order of the Redeemer, which today has 50 branches worldwide. The monastery in Bremen, which was built just a few years ago, does not yet include a German nun.
 
A few years ago, the youngest in the United States established a branch of the Order of the Briggitines, who have returned to the original tradition and cultivated the Immemorial Roman Rite.

Bishop Voderholzer Denied Entry for His "Fantasy Costume"

That's never happened to Bishop Rudolf Voderholzer before: he had been refused entrance to a Bavarian folk festival. The security service of the "Landshuter Hochzeit" considered his soutane to be a "fantasy costume" and did not allow him entry, as the Landshut weekly newspaper Wochenblatt reported.

The Cardinal Prefect of the Pontifical Commission Ecclesia Dei, Cardinal Gerhard Müller had addressed my letter of May 11, 2017,  delivered to the consideration Permanent Council in which I expressed my concern about the possibility of granting authority to the priests of the Priestly Brotherhood of St. Pius X. on (on June 1, 2017). It expresses in its reply an understanding of our concern about the "still ongoing ecclesiastical illegality of the Society of St. Pius and the situation which has not yet been clarified" and stresses that it is "in the competence of the respective local ordinarius" to whom it grants the authority to conclude a marriage. He explained that the decisions taken by Pope Francis in favor of the pastoral needs of believers are determined by the consideration that the Priestly Fraternity is on its way to full communion.

Since we are able to meet the pastoral needs of the faithful who request a marriage in the liturgy of the Vetus ordo (extraordinary rite), by applying our guidelines for the Motu Proprio Summorum Pontificum for the German dioceses of 2007, the Permanent Council of 19 June, 2017 reaffirmed its decision of April.

In order to promote uniform handling in the German (Arch) dioceses, the Permanent Council has decided to make a corresponding text proposal available to members of the Permanent Council for publication in the Official Journal ( Annex ).

In this way, in agreement with the Cardinal Prefect, we take appropriate account both of the pastoral requirements and the church circumstances.

The fact is that the EKD delegation was accompanied by Cardinal Reinhard Marx, Archbishop of Munich-Freising and President of the German Bishops' Conference, which made the evangelical delegation evidently an "ecumenical"one in the eyes of some. Some really love the word "ecumenism".

At the subsequent press conference, Cardinal Marx also took a position on the "interpretation" of the German Bishops on the disputed post-synodal letter Amoris laetitia by Pope Francis. On 1 February, the German Bishops' Conference announced its guidelines for the implementation of Amoris laetitia. The bishops speak of a "renewed marriage and family pastoral in the light of Amoris laetitia." By "renewed" is meant specifically the particularly controversial chapter VIII. According to the DBK interpretation, newly married divorced persons are now admitted to the sacraments.

Cardinal Müller to German Bishops: "When the blind leads the blind"

On the same day another German bishop and cardinal, Prefect of the Congregation for the Congregation of the Faith, Gerhard Müller, spoke in an interview with the monthly magazine Il Timone, declaring that the reception of Communion was "impossible" for remarried and divorced couples. Without naming them by name, he described his German confreres among the Bishops  as "the blind who lead the blind." But it was not "the task of the bishops to create confusion." Cardinal Müller also said:

"For us marriage is the expression of participation in the unity between Christ the Bridegroom and His Bride to the Church. This is not a vague analogy, as some have said during the Synod. No! This is the substance of the sacrament, and no power in heaven and on earth, neither an angel, nor a pope, nor a council, nor a law of bishops, has the authority to change it."

Cardinal Müller instisted that "all those who talk too much,"  to "study" the Council, especially the Council of Trent, and the Magisterium of the Church.

Cardinal Marx: "I believe that unanimity prevailed"

To Cardinal Marx, however, such "recommendations" appear to be dismissed. He showed the stinkfinger at the press conference - probably quite unconsciously but conspicuously as an AFP photographer captured it in the above picture. Was he referring to Cardinal Müller or marriage and morals?

In any event, he stressed the fact that the new directives on the remarried divorced were "unanimously approved" by the German bishops. However, there are doubts about this.

The Press Agency Askanews reported on the press conference with Cardinal Marx:

To the journalist, who pointed out that a thousand priests say that the papal text is not clear, the Cardinal replied, "You can read Amoris laetitia, and I think that in our episcopal conference, unanimity prevailed, some bishops have asked questions, but I believe the position is clear, and the line of the pope is very clear. I was a member of two synods, and the discussions between the synods, and the discussions in the Synod, and then I read Amoris laetitia and said: This is absolutely clear. I can not understand why the answer is not clear."

The Press Agency SIR of the Italian Bishops' Conference gave the same statement by Cardinal Marx:

"I think there was unanimity in our bishop's conference. Some bishops have asked questions, but I believe that the pope's position and line are very clear. I do not understand why, according to some, the answer is not clear. "

According to different statements, neither unanimity nor consensus prevailed in the German Bishops' Conference. The unusual formulation of Cardinal Marx, that he "believes" that "unanimity" prevails,  indicates this. At least six bishops are said to have rejected the new directives, especially the interpretation of the VIII chapter of Amoris laetitia.

This raises the question whether Cardinal Marx's statement that the Bishops' Conference had adopted the directives unanimously or even unanimously, agreed with the facts. Or is it attempted, for the first time, that the bishops' conference, which has no jurisdiction, should be replaced by the bishops who are individually responsible? These are questions that ask for clarification.

Accusations Against Cardinal Marx for Handling of a Sex Abuse Case

The President of the German Bishops' Conference is being criticized in a suspected case of sexual abuse of a minor ten years previously by a priest in the diocese of Trier.

Trier (kath.net/KNA) The President of the German Bishops' Conference, Reinhold Cardinal Marx is being criticized in a suspected case of sexual abuse of a minor ten years previously by a priest in the diocese of Trier.

As reported by Saarland Broadcasting, Marx knew as the then Bishop of Trier in 2006 of the legal proceedings against the clergyman. While the accused had partially confessed to the abuse of a young person, the charges had reached the statute of limitations and the authorities discontinued the investigation. The diocese of Trier had thoroughly questioned the pastor, after the latter had denied the allegations. The files of the judiciary were not requested.

As a spokesman for the prosecutor of Saarbrücken confirmed on Wednesday for the Catholic News Agency (KNA). the diocese was informed in 2006 about the termination of the criminal proceedings. However, that was probably done informally - without giving any reasons, such that the adjustment was made ​​due to the statute of limitation.

A spokesman for the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising confirmed on the same day that Marx took part in a meeting of the Staff Council of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Trier in 2006, in which a message of the prosecution was that the case was being handled by discontinuing the investigation. The procedure was followed "according to the then applicable guidelines of the German Bishops' Conference" from the year of 2002. "Today, such a case would have been handled otherwise, it would have initiated its own investigations," said the spokesman. "The German bishops have experienced consequences from the bitter experiences and corresponding decided upon new guidelines that apply to all dioceses."

The Church's handling of the prosecution in cases of abuse have been clarified in the guidelines of the German Bishops' Conference in 2010 and then again in 2013. As amended in 2010, it states that a preliminary canonical investigation would be conducted regardless of method of secular justice. But they served only as much given the results of state prosecution.

In 2013 was the first handling of unsolved cases was to be regulated by state counsel. So it says in paragraph 39: If a statute of limitations period has occurred, "but factual indications exist which justify the admission of sexual abuse of minors or adult wards, the competent ecclesiastical authorities should take pains to clarify it within their own means."

As the diocese of Trier announced in May, an investigation of the public prosecutor took place in 2006, 2013 and 2016,against the now 64-year-old priest. The respective investigations have in the meantime been discontinued. The records of 2006 had only been received by the diocese in the spring of 2016. Those documents offer a reasonable initial suspicion for acts involving a then underage person which indeed is barred under state, but not by canon law. The Vatican has tightened the statute of limitations for such crimes in recent years several times.

On this basis, the current Bishop of Trier, Stephan Ackermann, initiated an ecclesiastical preliminary investigation against the priest, according to the diocese. The priest, who was around 30 years in a parish in Saarland, has been prohibited since, from worshiping openly and maintaining contact with children and adolescents. The clergyman had since undertaken multiple vacation trips with young people, according to the diocese.

Cardinal Napier Slams Cardinal Marx: "Political Correctness is the Main Heresy of Today"

The Archbishop of Durban rejects Cardinal Marx's claim, the Church should apologize to homosexuals and regard same-sex unions positively.

Durban (kath.net/LSN/jg) With a pithy remark Cardinal Wilfrid Napier, Archbishop of Durban (South Africa), rejected Cardinal Reinhard Marx's demand that the Church should ask for the "forgiveness of homosexuals."

Cardinal Marx had said at a conference in Dublin, that the Catholic Church had "till a very short time ago" had a "very negative" disposition toward homosexual people. This is allegedly "scandalous and horrible". The Archbishop of Munich and Freising had demanded that the Church should apologize to homosexuals.

A same-sex partnership can not be "worthless" if it has continued over a number of years and both partners are faithful to each other. The Church must "respect" the decisions of people and it is for the state to recognize homosexual unions and giving them similar rights as married couples, Marx had said.

The of Nigerian Pro-Lifer Obianuju Ekeocha had twitted the report by the Irish Times about Cardinal Marx. Cardinal Napier then responded via Twitter: "God help us! Next, we should apologize that we call adultery a sin! Political Correctness is the main heresy today!"

(Rome) Some heads of dicasteries of the Roman Curia have been removed by Pope Francis after his election to office. Others were left in office, but in fact isolated.  Cardinal Pell is also under constant pressure.

The Dismissal of "Ratzingerians"

With the dismissals, it was not to questions of competence, but a directional decision. It touches on each convinced "Ratzingerianer", a cipher, which is shorthand encapsulating  a faithful understanding of the Church.

The Catalan Cardinal Antonio Cañizares Llovera, Prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments , was considered a "little Ratzinger". His rejection of the "new Mercy" by Cardinal Walter Kasper, he had already announced at the cardinal consistory in February, 2014. As a head of a Dicastry, Cardinal Cañizares would have been an ex officio member of the Bishops' Synod on marriage and the family. However, Pope Francis appointed him shortly before the start of Synod 2014 as Archbishop of Valencia. His inauguration in Spain took place before the Synod opening day.

Immediately after the Synod was the American Cardinal Raymond Burke, who had, since 2008 been Prefect of the Apostolic Signatura and President of the Supreme Court of the Vatican State, had been literally chased from office.. Under Pope Benedict XVI. Cardinal Burke had a decisive influence on the appointment of bishops in the United States. Appointments, which created a healthy episcopate, in their orientation but found the reluctance of Pope Francis. In December 2013 he removed Cardinal Burke from the Congregation for Bishops and from the Congregation for the Causes of Saints. 

The real clash of opposing positions, however, would  only be to follow. Cardinal Burke, a brilliant canon lawyer, was the spokesman for the defense of Catholic marriage and morality against the Kasper theses at the Synod of Bishops, 2014.  He hinted at tampering on a grand scale with which the Synod of Bishops was canted in a progressive direction. He was so outraged that there could be such a thing in the Church, he hinted that the manipulation was carried out by papal support. Shortly before the start of the Synod, an anthology to defend the marriage sacrament and the natural family appeared at the initiative of Cardinal Burke  with contributions by five well-known cardinals. The annoyance was so great that loud rumors began to circulate, Pope Francis cherished the intention to remove the cardinal from Rome in the papal environs. The threat would be a shot across the bow of Cardinal Burke to hold back at the Synod of Bishops. However, the US cardinal would not to be intimidated. Less than three weeks after the end of the Synod, Pope Francis acted on his threat and removed Cardinal Burke from the Roman Curia. As Cardinal Patronus of the Sovereign Military Order, the  Cardinal has no more influence on the leadership of the Church. Above all, he was therefore excluded from participating in the Synod of Bishops, 2015. The deposition can also be seen in connection with the provisional administration of the traditional Order of Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate. In a regular trial would be the case ended up as a last instance on the table by Cardinal Burke. It was a probability that they obviously did not want to risk in the papal circle.

The interventions involved the central areas clergy, liturgy and sacraments and the Supreme Court. With the appointment of Cardinal Robert Sarah, succeeding Cardinal Cañizares, Pope Francis barely reached what he had intended. Cardinal Sarah developed the new office to become one of the most famous and outstanding cardinal figures. The integration of Africa into the "Latin American Agenda" has so far failed miserably. The African Synod was valuable during the Synod of Bishops in 2015 with an energetic resistance against the "liberal Kasperians" ( Messa in Latino ).

The Marginalization of the Remaining "Ratzingerian"

The depositions of leading Church representatives will have disciplined others who do not want to suffer the same fate. Pope Francis is considered an expert strategist. Too many personal interventions have made a reconstruction of the Church obvious. The "right" dosage protects an open flank. The dicastry  heads, with an unspoilt understanding of the church have little in common with Pope Francis, are ignored and marginalized by it. This concerns two more of the nine Curial Congregations: the Congregation of Faith and the Congregation for Bishops. Faith Prefect Cardinal Gerhard Müller and Bishop Prefect Cardinal Marc Ouellet were indeed left by Francis in office and dignity, but isolated. See:

This has the optical advantage that the Roman Curia seems "balanced" from the outside and more parts of the Church in Rome could feel somehow represented. It does not match the actual internal power relations. Pope Francis rules autocratically.

Cardinal George Pell: Dismissal from Australia

Another cardinal not trusted by Pope Francis. The Australian Cardinal George Pell is for  the pope's progressive entourage, "the other side."  When Pope Francis announced a month after his election, the establishment of a Cardinal Council  that should assist in the reform of the Roman Curia and the guidance of the universal Church, he adopted a geographical key.  Each continent should be represented by one Cardinal in the new body. Cardinal Pell was at this time the only Cardinal of Oceania and slipped inevitably into the so-called C8 Council of cardinal advisers (today C9 council of cardinal advisers). It was an unintentional "glitch" like the successor of Cardinal Cañizares. 

Cardinal Pell was appointed in February 2014 even to the Roman Curia and appointed Prefect of the newly established Economic Secretariat. Actually an appreciation. First, the new dicastery existed only on paper, while Pope Francis had received the opportunity to restructure the Australian episcopate. Cardinal Pell was the dominant figure on the fifth continent because of his personality and his rank. Francis rejected all three proposed candidates for the successor of the Archbishop of Sydney, which had been suggested to him by the competent Cardinal Ouellet and Congregation of Bishops in consultation with Cardinal Pell. The Pope appointed a candidate of his choice. How this came about, was, as in other cases, completely opaque. According to the Canadian religious experts Alain Pronkin  Pope Francis seeks the most "progressive candidates".  He does not rely on the competent institutions, but to the recommendations of personal confidants.

There was puzzlement in Rome about the appointment of Cardinal Pell to the Curia. The most credible explanation seems that Pope Francis thus, made the same attempt as that made by the Pope John Paul II with Walter Kasper:  Push back his influence in the home country by transportation and involve him in the papal agenda. But the Australian cardinal moved to Rome not of his convictions and proved in the Synod of Bishops as very staunch defender of Catholic marriage and morality.  At the Synod in 2014, he continued his defense against the Kasper theses, although his microphone  had been turned off by the Synod  against the rules of procedure.  About his situation it was said: "Some get dirty." Cardinal Burke called out the "dirty game" publicly and was promptly punished.

Again and again, therefore, there was of papal displeasure against Cardinal Pell's speech, or of "maneuvers" to remove him from Rome. There is also concern is also on the side of the Cardinal himself and reflects a general uncertainty in the Roman Curia. Whoever does not belong to the progressively aligned, narrow court of the Pope, spends his time in Rome  with some trepidation.

The PricecaterhouseCoopers action

Yesterday it was announced that the contract for the audit of the Holy See by the company PricecaterhouseCoopers was to be "suspend." The accounting firm founded in 1865, headquartered in Frankfurt had taken over the external Audit of the Holy See and of Vatican City, as well as its tax advice. The relevant negotiations  were handled by Pope Francis' Economic Council, headed by Cardinal Reinhard Marx as project coordinator. The commissioning of the Frankfurt-based company was announced last December 5, 2015. The duration of the contract relates to a period of three years. The order volume amounts to three million euros. The contract with PricecaterhouseCoopers was signed by Cardinal Pell as the competent prefect.

On the 20th and 23rd of February, the Cardinal had informed all Vatican offices that are subjected to investigation. Therein, the chief officers were informed that PricecaterhouseCoopers itself will be put in touch with them and that they would issue a permit that the auditors can talk to all competent managers of offices and which includes cooperating with them.

In recent days, the State Department suddenly issued a contrary order. All Vatican offices received a letter from Cardinal Secretary of State Parolin and his substitutes curia Archbishop Becciu that the Audit is "suspended." "A decision that can not be done without the consent of the pope," said Vatican Insider .

This involves neither  PricewaterhouseCoopers nor  their work. It isn't related to the "resistance" of some offices, wishing to avoid supervision. It involves "only" formal legal aspects.

Since last year, after a start-up time, the statutes were adopted for the Secretariat of the Economy and the Economic Council, the formal conclusion of the award of the contract does not comply with the intended procedure. This gap must be closed in accordance with the statutes and newly awarded the contract. He promulgated again PricewaterhouseCoopers. The measure would be to "rehabilitate" only formal errors   that might otherwise give rise to legal complaints.

"Message to Cardinal Pell, who has the last word"

The details of this "strange" operation remain opaque. The C9 Council of cardinal advisers (to which Pell belongs) had been expressly discussed concerning orders to external firms  just as Cardinal Secretary of State Parolin and Cardinal Coordinator of the Economic Council Marx.  All the more astonishing is the intervention of the State Secretariat.

The situation this causes is embarrassing  only for Cardinal Pell. He has signed the contract with the consent and on behalf of other, at least this suggests it. Worse  there is the impression he is not capable of leading his office and -- even worse -- not contractible.  Now there is the impression that he was unable to perform his duties.

Therefore Pell let it be known by a spokesman for the Economic Secretariat, "to be somewhat surprised" by the letter of the State Secretariat. But he was convinced that the "work of PricewaterhouseCoopers will continue soon."

The Vatican expert Edward Pentin ( National Catholic Register ) sees in the whole operation a "message" to Cardinal Pell.  Apparently they wanted to give him to understand who's boss. He certainly did not.

Yesterday, Cardinal Pell was received by Pope Francis. It is to be assumed that the audience is in direct connection with these events. The moral of the story: Curia staff, the highest ranking that do not belong to Pope Francis' alignment [Chaotic Evil?], have a tough time at the Roman Curia.

The Double Standard Continues -- C8 Kasperian Cardinals in Lap of Luxury Get a Pass -- German Tax-Church Dominates World Church

Edit:  Since Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone is again in the news about his "luxurious" living quarters with which Pope Bergoglio, from his entire floor in a four star hotel, was once furious, we thought it would be a good idea to remind people about Cardinal Marx's luxurious lifestyle, whether he's driving in a BMW 730Ld with 258 PS. In comparison to Marx's palace villa in Rome, Cardinal Bertone's expenditure is around 300,000 Euros for his apartment sounds rather modest, but you wouldn't know that from most of the English language coverage, again, such as the Daily Beast, which has nothing but praise for the Pope's "humble" living quarters. 

Cardinal Marx certainly isn't the only one in the German Bishops' Conference with such lavish accomodations, including a 10 million euro villa in Rome and a rennovation project that far outspent the disgraced Bishop Tebarstz-van Elst's project, but then, he's been entrusted to the Pope's fabulous C9.

Yes, the following article is about three years old and nothing much has been done about Marx's lavish lifestyle.  We expect that the corrupt German Tax-Church enjoys a great deal of approval far and wide.  What does that say about the malignancy of those who hail these men as worthy prelates?  We still don't understand how Cardinal Zollitsch was able to get away with trying to push Tebartz-van Elst to suicide.... Of course, the German Church does continue to bleed members who are opting out of paying for the Church-Tax. Apparently, the burial and convalescent home coverage which is covered by this aren't enough of an enticement.

This is also something to think about with respect to the Kasperians lording it over the rest of the Church.

A noble rococo palace in Munich's old town is the recent home of Archbishop Marx. The restoration of the magnificent building has cost 8.7 million euros - paid mostly by Bavaria.

 The official residence of the archbishops of Munich and Freising in rococo palace Holnstein in Munich is now ready after years of restoration. The edifice, built by court architect François de Cuvilliés was renovated in 2008 for 8.7 euros.

One of the showpieces is a restored ceiling fresco by the painter and plasterer Johann Baptist Zimmermann in the historic staircase. had succeeded in consuming work, largely to enable the painting of allegorical figures of Justitia (right) and Pax (Peace) back to its original state, said the head of the Department of Art at the Archdiocese, Norbert Jocher. The Munich Archbishop Cardinal Reinhard Marx did not participate in the tour.

Chandeliers, tiled stoves, dressers

The house is one of the few Baroque mansions that have survived almost intact. In several rooms an old chandelier was also mounted in light Murano glass. Valuable too are the two baroque ornamental ceramics, but they are not just decorative.

In addition, some furniture such as dressers were erected in the 18th century. Several paintings, including two works by Zimmermann, were donated by the Freisinger Museum from its storage.

Archbishops Immortalized in Paintings

Another new feature is the gallery of the archbishops. The contemporary Düsseldorf painter Thomas Jessen immortalized in paintings the dignitaries who have resided in the Palais, from Lothar Anselm Freiherr von Gebsattel (archbishop from 1821 to 1846) on to Pope Benedict XVI. up to the current Archbishop Cardinal Reinhard Marx.

Otherwise offices, representative reception rooms, guest rooms and a chapel are housed, with an altar from the 18th century in the structure. Marx also has his office here and a service apartment with roof terrace.

Church paid around 2.2 million euros

Financing of the work was largely by Bavaria, to which the Palace belongs. Around 2.2 million euros were contributed by the Church. With the renovation, many structural damage had to be removed, including dry rot. Since last March, Archbishop Marx has lived in a newly refurbished residential and commercial seat.

Elector Albrecht had the palace erected from 1733 to 1737 for his illegitimate son, Franz Ludwig Graf von Holnstein. Since 1821 it has been the residential and official residence of the archbishops of Munich and Freising.
