Shot Across the Bow for Cardinal Pell -- Non-Bergoglians Have a Difficult Situation in the Roman Curia

Cardinal George Pell and Cardinal Raymond Burke Have a Difficult
Situation in Rome
(Rome) Some heads of dicasteries of the Roman Curia have been removed by Pope Francis after his election to office. Others were left in office, but in fact isolated.  Cardinal Pell is also under constant pressure.

The Dismissal of "Ratzingerians"

With the dismissals, it was not to questions of competence, but a directional decision. It touches on each convinced "Ratzingerianer", a cipher, which is shorthand encapsulating  a faithful understanding of the Church.
First, the Italian Cardinal Mauro Piacenza was replaced as Prefect of the Congregation for Clergy, and at only 70 year of age shoved off for the honorary management of the universal Church but completely insignificant post of Major Penitentiary of the Apostolic Penitentiary. In 2010 Cardinal Piacenza had assisted Pope Benedict XVI.  to raise the Curé of Ars, St. John Mary Vianney as a model and patron of priests.  It was an attempt that failed however, owing to violent resistance among the high clergy who rejected a 'pre-conciliar'  priestly style as "backward-looking."  Even the reigning Pope would not warm up to this priest model, replacing Cardinal Piacenza by a man of his choice.
The Catalan Cardinal Antonio Cañizares Llovera, Prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments , was considered a "little Ratzinger". His rejection of the "new Mercy" by Cardinal Walter Kasper, he had already announced at the cardinal consistory in February, 2014. As a head of a Dicastry, Cardinal Cañizares would have been an ex officio member of the Bishops' Synod on marriage and the family. However, Pope Francis appointed him shortly before the start of Synod 2014 as Archbishop of Valencia. His inauguration in Spain took place before the Synod opening day.
Immediately after the Synod was the American Cardinal Raymond Burke, who had, since 2008 been Prefect of the Apostolic Signatura and President of the Supreme Court of the Vatican State, had been literally chased from office.. Under Pope Benedict XVI. Cardinal Burke had a decisive influence on the appointment of bishops in the United States. Appointments, which created a healthy episcopate, in their orientation but found the reluctance of Pope Francis. In December 2013 he removed Cardinal Burke from the Congregation for Bishops and from the Congregation for the Causes of Saints.
The real clash of opposing positions, however, would  only be to follow. Cardinal Burke, a brilliant canon lawyer, was the spokesman for the defense of Catholic marriage and morality against the Kasper theses at the Synod of Bishops, 2014.  He hinted at tampering on a grand scale with which the Synod of Bishops was canted in a progressive direction. He was so outraged that there could be such a thing in the Church, he hinted that the manipulation was carried out by papal support. Shortly before the start of the Synod, an anthology to defend the marriage sacrament and the natural family appeared at the initiative of Cardinal Burke  with contributions by five well-known cardinals. The annoyance was so great that loud rumors began to circulate, Pope Francis cherished the intention to remove the cardinal from Rome in the papal environs. The threat would be a shot across the bow of Cardinal Burke to hold back at the Synod of Bishops. However, the US cardinal would not to be intimidated. Less than three weeks after the end of the Synod, Pope Francis acted on his threat and removed Cardinal Burke from the Roman Curia. As Cardinal Patronus of the Sovereign Military Order, the  Cardinal has no more influence on the leadership of the Church. Above all, he was therefore excluded from participating in the Synod of Bishops, 2015. The deposition can also be seen in connection with the provisional administration of the traditional Order of Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate. In a regular trial would be the case ended up as a last instance on the table by Cardinal Burke. It was a probability that they obviously did not want to risk in the papal circle.
The interventions involved the central areas clergy, liturgy and sacraments and the Supreme Court. With the appointment of Cardinal Robert Sarah, succeeding Cardinal Cañizares, Pope Francis barely reached what he had intended. Cardinal Sarah developed the new office to become one of the most famous and outstanding cardinal figures. The integration of Africa into the "Latin American Agenda" has so far failed miserably. The African Synod was valuable during the Synod of Bishops in 2015 with an energetic resistance against the "liberal Kasperians" ( Messa in Latino ).

The Marginalization of the Remaining "Ratzingerian"

The depositions of leading Church representatives will have disciplined others who do not want to suffer the same fate. Pope Francis is considered an expert strategist. Too many personal interventions have made a reconstruction of the Church obvious. The "right" dosage protects an open flank. The dicastry  heads, with an unspoilt understanding of the church have little in common with Pope Francis, are ignored and marginalized by it. This concerns two more of the nine Curial Congregations: the Congregation of Faith and the Congregation for Bishops. Faith Prefect Cardinal Gerhard Müller and Bishop Prefect Cardinal Marc Ouellet were indeed left by Francis in office and dignity, but isolated. See:
This has the optical advantage that the Roman Curia seems "balanced" from the outside and more parts of the Church in Rome could feel somehow represented. It does not match the actual internal power relations. Pope Francis rules autocratically.

Cardinal George Pell: Dismissal from Australia

Another cardinal not trusted by Pope Francis. The Australian Cardinal George Pell is for  the pope's progressive entourage, "the other side."  When Pope Francis announced a month after his election, the establishment of a Cardinal Council  that should assist in the reform of the Roman Curia and the guidance of the universal Church, he adopted a geographical key.  Each continent should be represented by one Cardinal in the new body. Cardinal Pell was at this time the only Cardinal of Oceania and slipped inevitably into the so-called C8 Council of cardinal advisers (today C9 council of cardinal advisers). It was an unintentional "glitch" like the successor of Cardinal Cañizares.

Cardinal Pell was appointed in February 2014 even to the Roman Curia and appointed Prefect of the newly established Economic Secretariat. Actually an appreciation. First, the new dicastery existed only on paper, while Pope Francis had received the opportunity to restructure the Australian episcopate. Cardinal Pell was the dominant figure on the fifth continent because of his personality and his rank. Francis rejected all three proposed candidates for the successor of the Archbishop of Sydney, which had been suggested to him by the competent Cardinal Ouellet and Congregation of Bishops in consultation with Cardinal Pell. The Pope appointed a candidate of his choice. How this came about, was, as in other cases, completely opaque. According to the Canadian religious experts Alain Pronkin  Pope Francis seeks the most "progressive candidates".  He does not rely on the competent institutions, but to the recommendations of personal confidants.
There was puzzlement in Rome about the appointment of Cardinal Pell to the Curia. The most credible explanation seems that Pope Francis thus, made the same attempt as that made by the Pope John Paul II with Walter Kasper:  Push back his influence in the home country by transportation and involve him in the papal agenda. But the Australian cardinal moved to Rome not of his convictions and proved in the Synod of Bishops as very staunch defender of Catholic marriage and morality.  At the Synod in 2014, he continued his defense against the Kasper theses, although his microphone  had been turned off by the Synod  against the rules of procedure.  About his situation it was said: "Some get dirty." Cardinal Burke called out the "dirty game" publicly and was promptly punished.
Again and again, therefore, there was of papal displeasure against Cardinal Pell's speech, or of "maneuvers" to remove him from Rome. There is also concern is also on the side of the Cardinal himself and reflects a general uncertainty in the Roman Curia. Whoever does not belong to the progressively aligned, narrow court of the Pope, spends his time in Rome  with some trepidation.

The PricecaterhouseCoopers action

Yesterday it was announced that the contract for the audit of the Holy See by the company PricecaterhouseCoopers was to be "suspend." The accounting firm founded in 1865, headquartered in Frankfurt had taken over the external Audit of the Holy See and of Vatican City, as well as its tax advice. The relevant negotiations  were handled by Pope Francis' Economic Council, headed by Cardinal Reinhard Marx as project coordinator. The commissioning of the Frankfurt-based company was announced last December 5, 2015. The duration of the contract relates to a period of three years. The order volume amounts to three million euros. The contract with PricecaterhouseCoopers was signed by Cardinal Pell as the competent prefect.
On the 20th and 23rd of February, the Cardinal had informed all Vatican offices that are subjected to investigation. Therein, the chief officers were informed that PricecaterhouseCoopers itself will be put in touch with them and that they would issue a permit that the auditors can talk to all competent managers of offices and which includes cooperating with them.
In recent days, the State Department suddenly issued a contrary order. All Vatican offices received a letter from Cardinal Secretary of State Parolin and his substitutes curia Archbishop Becciu that the Audit is "suspended." "A decision that can not be done without the consent of the pope," said Vatican Insider .
This involves neither  PricewaterhouseCoopers nor  their work. It isn't related to the "resistance" of some offices, wishing to avoid supervision. It involves "only" formal legal aspects.
Since last year, after a start-up time, the statutes were adopted for the Secretariat of the Economy and the Economic Council, the formal conclusion of the award of the contract does not comply with the intended procedure. This gap must be closed in accordance with the statutes and newly awarded the contract. He promulgated again PricewaterhouseCoopers. The measure would be to "rehabilitate" only formal errors   that might otherwise give rise to legal complaints.

"Message to Cardinal Pell, who has the last word"

The details of this "strange" operation remain opaque. The C9 Council of cardinal advisers (to which Pell belongs) had been expressly discussed concerning orders to external firms  just as Cardinal Secretary of State Parolin and Cardinal Coordinator of the Economic Council Marx.  All the more astonishing is the intervention of the State Secretariat.
The situation this causes is embarrassing  only for Cardinal Pell. He has signed the contract with the consent and on behalf of other, at least this suggests it. Worse  there is the impression he is not capable of leading his office and -- even worse -- not contractible.  Now there is the impression that he was unable to perform his duties.
Therefore Pell let it be known by a spokesman for the Economic Secretariat, "to be somewhat surprised" by the letter of the State Secretariat. But he was convinced that the "work of PricewaterhouseCoopers will continue soon."
The Vatican expert Edward Pentin ( National Catholic Register ) sees in the whole operation a "message" to Cardinal Pell.  Apparently they wanted to give him to understand who's boss. He certainly did not.
Yesterday, Cardinal Pell was received by Pope Francis. It is to be assumed that the audience is in direct connection with these events. The moral of the story: Curia staff, the highest ranking that do not belong to Pope Francis' alignment [Chaotic Evil?], have a tough time at the Roman Curia.

Cardinal Burke Challenges the Febronianism of the Synod

Edit: Febronianism is an old heresy that never really seems to go away.  Cardinal Burke doesn't know where it comes from? Surely he does and is just being polite!

Oct. 15, 2015 (LifeSiteNews) - On Thursday morning, LifeSiteNews had an opportunity to sit down with Cardinal Raymond Burke in Rome, after a press conference he attended hosted by Voice of the Family. LifeSiteNews spoke with the Cardinal about the ongoing Synod on the Family, and in particular a controversial proposal, promoted by a participant in a recent Vatican press conference, to allow local bishops make decisions on how to deal with issues like homosexuality and divorce.

Cardinal Burke also critiqued the so-called "Kasper Proposal," saying that it is based upon the false idea "that somehow doctrine and pastoral practice are in conflict with one another."

The following is a transcript of this interview:

LSN: What do you make of the idea of “regional diversity” in the Church? Should local bishops have the authority on a pastoral level to deal with questions pertaining to the “social acceptance of homosexuality” and with “divorced and remarried persons?”

Pope Names Cardinals Burke and Caffarra as Members of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints

Cardinals Burke and Caffarra
(Rome) Pope Francis appointed the Archbishop Carlo Cardinal Caffarra of Bologna and Cardinal Raymond Burke Patron of the Order of Malta last Saturday during his US visit as  members of the Congregation of Saints.
Both cardinals are considered enemies of the "New Mercy" and have come forward with a view to the upcoming Synod of Bishops on the family to speak in active  defense of Catholic marriage and morality.
Both belong to the five cardinals, who caused a sensation in the past year throughout the Church with the book "Remain in the Truth of Christ."
Cardinal Burke was recognized as the de facto spokesman in the Synod of Bishops 2014   against the proposal by Cardinal Walter Kasper, who wanted to allow so-called remarried divorcees to the sacraments. The same applies to the attempt to recognize aberrosexuality.
After the election of Pope Francis, the US Cardinal had become among the most outspoken critics of the reigning pope, who publicly voiced his  respectful and relevant opposition.

Adversary of the "Nw Mercy" and an imprecise, ambiguous language

The clash took place mainly at the "non-negotiable values" (Benedict XVI.). The Cardinal,  well-known for his precise thinking  also came into conflict with Pope Francis because of vague and ambiguous formulations.
It's an attitude that did not sit well with Pope Francis. Shortly after the conclusion of the Synod of Bishops, the Argentine Pope removed the renowned canon lawyer as prefect of the Apostolic Signatura and removed him from the Roman Curia.
Cardinal Burke will, therefore, not participate in the beginning on 4 October Synod of Bishops.
Previously, the Pope had not confirmed   Burke's membership in the Congregation for Bishops and the Congregation for Divine Worship.
The situation is different for Cardinal Caffarra. The profiled Italian shepherd enjoys the confidence of Pope Francis, so it is said in Rome. Like last year, Cardinal Francis had  named Caffara personally to synod. Caffarra is one of the weightiest voices against  gender ideology.
For Cardinal Caffarra this is the first appointment to the General Assembly of a Roman Congregation. Previously, he was already a member of the Pontifical Family Council.
Congregation is not the same as Congregation. Each has its tasks, which have some weighty influence on the management of world church than others. The reassignment from one congregation to another, as in the case of Cardinal Burke, can therefore be seen as diesempowering, while maintaining integration.

In Case the Synod Takes a "Strange Turn"? "Remain True!"

Cardinal Burke
(Washington) This past September 13, Cardinal Rayond Burke, who was removed by Pope Francis from the Roman Curia for being the spokesman of Kasper's critics, spoke in St. Louis about "the truth of Christ in marriage."  The  Cardinal Patronus of the Sovereign Order of Malta addressed the spiritual, social, doctrinal and canonical aspects of the crisis, in which marriage and the family in Western culture find themselves. The cardinal spoke of a great confusion and rebellion inside the Church.
Cardinal Burke stressed that in "our" increasingly secularized and a hostile world the greater responsibility lays on the shoulders of parents to mold the children by word and example, and to teach them the true meaning of Christian marriage. Along with the authentic, always valid teaching of the Church, the healthy family formation for children and young people will prove to be the main source for their guidance, as a key means by which   Christian truth will be passed to the next generation.

Resistance to Kasper Proposal - New Nullity of Marriage "Could Cause Problems" "

The cardinal suggested the book was published in 2014 shortly before the Synod of Bishops "Remaining  in the Truth of Christ" of five cardinals, including Burke, for reading. In Saint Louis, he reaffirmed his categorical opposition to the proposal by Cardinal Walter Kasper, allow divorced and remarried to the sacraments.
The Cardinal Patron, an excellent canonist, also expressed that there could be some problems because of the new provisions announced on September 8  by Pope Francis on the nullity of marriage. The new rules, says the cardinal, would require a lot of caution and a particularly attentive interpretation in the light of the long canonical and doctrinal tradition of the Church.
A negative example   Cardinal Burke mention the  suspension of the double judgment for the nullity of marriage in the United States during the period of 1971 to 1983. The American "experiment" of "rationalization" [Streamlining] of the marriage annulment process has led in practice to general laxity that had become perceived as a "Catholic divorce". That was one reason why the Code of Canon Law of 1983 had restored the duty of appeal in the second instance, as it had been introduced in 1740 by Benedict XIV..

Divine law will be, "only more Ideal"

To spread "confusion," says the cardinal, it is also put in effect that today the divine law would put marriage and chastity down as mere "ideals", that  demand a need  for heroic holiness in ordinary Catholics. Such an attitude, in turn, leads to false ideas about "mercy", as well as the admission of Catholics to the sacraments, who are  in the state of mortal sin, because the ideal is unattainable anyway.
Cardinal Burke stressed however, that the teaching of Scripture and the Church says that God's gift of grace are always sufficient to resist any temptation and to obey His commandments. For this, however, there is a condition: The faithful must turn in humility, with trusting faith and unceasing prayer to Him.
At the end of his speech he replied to the question of what Catholics should do if it should come to a "strange twist" at the upcoming Synod. Cardinal Burke's prompt response consisted of only two words: "Remain true!"

Pontifical High Mass at Basilica with Cardinal Burke Cancelled

Update: it looks like Cardinal Burke is going to be in the itinerary of some kind of Neo-Knights Templar Conference, leading a Pilgrimmage to the Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine in La Crosse, on Monday the 21st of September. Again, thanks to reader for the information.

http://www.guadalupeshrine.org/about/founder

http://www.eohsjnorthern.com/annual-meeting-2015

Edit: Cardinal Burke, who has a lot of time on his hands after being fired by the Pope from his position at the Apostolic Signatura was still in a position to do some a lot of good by saying the Immemorial Mass of All Ages in a historic event at one of the most evil parishes in the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis.   The event was to take place at 10:00 in the morning on Saturday, September 19th at St. Mary's Basilica in Minneapolis. After making some inquiries we have no reason why the Holy Mass was cancelled, except that perhaps the rector and the Devil himself don't approve of it.

In addition to the possible disapproval on the part of the  questionable leadership at the parish, things are especially bad recently in the Archdiocese as a whole, since one of the Cardinal's confreres, the faithful Archbishop John Nienstedt, has been hounded from his position as Archbishop owing to the all-too-familiar media blitzkrieg and a host of disloyal elements among his clergy and even his own chancery.

Perhaps the reason is the evil reputation of the Basilica itself?

When they're not prostituting themselves to the zeitgeist, promoting deviancy at various fairs and events, surely leading souls into Hell, they're probably the most singular anti-Catholic presence in the Archdiocese as a locus of dissent and disobedience.

The place needs to be reconsecrated anyway, in our humble opinion.

The Immemorial Mass was to be celebrated in the context of an event sponsored by the Knights of Malta of the Holy Sepulcher meeting, which will hold some events at the Basilica, which is somewhat understandable since Cardinal Burke is the Patron of the Order of Malta another equestrian order. [Hence our initial confusion that these people were Knights of St. John (Malta).]   What doesn't make sense is why an equestrian society of Catholic gentlemen would associated themselves with the evil St. John's Bible and the Faux-Benedictines of Collegeville. One of the events in the bulletin so kindly provided by a reader shows:

"Artist as Preacher" - Presentation of St. John's Bible -
Rev. Eric Hollas, OSB, KHS

Father Hollas' biography reads as follows from Collegeville's website:

Fr. Eric Hollas, OSB - Deputy to the President for Advancement in the Office of Institutional Advancement at Saint John's University.  Fr. Eric received his BA degree in history from Princeton in 1971, completed seminary studies at Saint John's School of Theology·Seminary and received his PhD in medieval studies from Yale.  Fr. Eric is a member of the Medieval Academy of America.  Fr. Eric is also a member of the Order of the Holy Sepulchre and chaplain in the Western Association of the Order of Malta.  Since 1980, Fr. Eric has been a member of the faculty of the School of Theology • Seminary and Department of Theology at Saint John's University.  From 1993 to 2002, he was Executive Director of the Hill Monastic Manuscript Library at Saint John's University.  Among his many activities, Fr. Eric was instrumental in initiating The Saint John's Bible and has spoken on that project at venues throughout the United States.

One of the principal problems with the bible, apart from the false claims surrounding it, and its price tag, is the calligrapher, who is himself an atheist.

Cardinal Burke Received by Pope Francis in Audience

Raymond Cardinal Burke
(Rome) According to the Daily Bulletin of the Vatican Press Office, Cardinal Raymond Burke has  been received today in private audience by Pope Francis in Santa Marta guesthouse.
The American Burke was Cardinal Prefect Head of a dicastery of the Roman Curia until 2014. After the Synod of Bishops in 2014, where he became the spokesman for the defense of the marriage sacrament, the pope dissmissed him for   his a  as prefect of the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura and removed him from the Roman Curia.
The Pope pushed him off to the post of cardinal protector of the Sovereign Order of Malta, which, however  prestigious, does not affect the management of the universal Church.
Just recently, the excellent canon lawyer defended against the accusation he was opposed to Pope Francis in an interview from Infovaticana. It's an allegation which was especially widespread clamoring of Kasperians.
Now there was a private audience, although recently there were rumors that the Pope had no interest in such a meeting. Was it a routine reception? Or did both sides try mutually to explore positions with regard to the forthcoming final part of the Synod of Bishops?
As Cardinal Prefect Burke  2014 was  automatically included in the Synod Synod of Bishops. By his dismissal he could only take part in the Synod of Bishops in 2015 if Pope Francis personally appoints him  to the Synod. But that seems pretty unlikely.
The content of the discussions at the meeting today has been unknown.

Aberrosexual Priest Calls Cardinal Burke a "Drag Queen"

Edit: Ottawa is the special gift that keeps giving. Will he keep his 130k per annum teaching position?

Hats off to Vox for helping to expose more of this kind of deviant behavior from affected personalities.

[Vox Cantoris] Raymond Cardinal Burke was given a standing ovation yesterday in Canada's House of Commons following the daily Question Period at Ottawa. Cardinal Burke is in Ottawa for an address this evening.

On the eve of his attendance, Ottawa Catholic priest and professor at the University of Ottawa has roundly and severely come out against the very presence of the Cardinal in Canada's capital city.

As reported at the Catholic Intelligence Agency blog, Andre Samson, the former Pastor of St. Margaret Mary Parish, said in an Email read out on CBC Radio Canada that “As a gay [man] and as a priest of the Archdiocese of Ottawa, I am upset at the visit of this person. I particularly blame those who invited him, the CCO Movement, Catholic Christian Outreach —who seek to provoke and to distance themselves from the current pope. The resistance towards Pope Francis has regrouped itself around this operetta Cardinal who likes to disguise himself as a drag queen. I know well today’s youth because I’ve taught at the University of Ottawa for the last sixteen years. I can affirm that Burke will have more success at Mado [CIA Note: a drag queen bar] than with the university students that CCO looks to convert.”

In August 2014 in the Ottawa Citizen, Samson said “I would like to see the Catholic church recognize that many of its priests are gay and many of its bishops are gay — and that’s OK." Samson who went on to describe his "life lived in secrecy."

Nowhere on his Twitter page does Fr. Samson refer to himself as a Catholic priest.

According to CIA Blog, Samson was also a speaker at the Annual Ontario Gay Men's Sexual Health Summit where BDSM was discussed in 2010 in Toronto. As Catholics one can ask if this priest spoke about chastity as being part of a single man's overall sexual health.

Ironically, a man who seems to care so much for victims of abuse feels quite justified in heaping abuse on Cardinal Burke who only speaks of the truth of Christ with love and mercy.

The Archbishop of Ottawa is Terence Prendergast, S.J. He has done much and continues to do much to turn around on the right path, the Church in Ottawa. His two predecessors did much damage over nearly fifty years. I saw some of this when I lived in Ottawa and witnessed the treatment of the fledgling Ottawa Oratory at St. Brigid's at the hands of Joseph Aurele Plourde and the cabal at St. Joseph's Church. Pray for Archbishop Prendergast's perseverance. He is a friend of the people that would read this blog and has been a strong supporter of the Fraternity of St. Peter. If you wish to write him, respectfully, and as a commenter noted, "with the greatest charity and kindness," his email is archbishop@archottawa.org.

"So it will lead to Schism" -- The "Impossible Revolution" of Pope Francis

Pope Francis' Impossible Revolution
(Rome) "There is a revolution looming in the pastoral care of families in terms of communion for the divorced and remarried and homosexual relationships." Two years after the election of Pope Francis, the well-known historian and Catholic intellectual Roberto de Mattei describes the pontificate of Argentine Pope as "enigmatic" and "full of paradoxes".
The author of a standard work on the history of the Second Vatican Council ("The Second Vatican Council. A hitherto unwritten history") provides a large gap between the desiderata of Francis and the sentire the Catholic world.
"For the most sensitive thinkers of the Italian traditionalism," said Alberto Melloni, his historical counterpart and head of the progressivist school of Bologna, "the Church has ventured with this Pope into a schism by those progressivist bishops, like the German, who want to continue with their 'openings', even if the Synod rejects their 'reforms' in the fall. "
Three Italian newspapers (Il Giorno, La Nazione, Il Resto del Carlino) published at the same time an interview with Roberto de Mattei:
Roberto de Mattei
Even the ultra-conservative Cardinal Raymond Burke has promised resistance at any price.
Roberto de Mattei: But he has not  promised schism. He just said that he will oppose any change in the Synod against the truth about marriage. This seems to me to be  honest and transparent behavior.
Will the Pope really attack the Doctrine of the Faith?
Roberto de Mattei: Francis pretends to be conservative. He says nothing against the dogmas. But his pastoral strategy is revolutionary in itself because it subordinates the truth to practice, especially in such a burning hot topic as the family. In this way, it signals a fundamental break in the history of the papacy as  has not been seen for 50 years.
The Church is not ready for this change?
I do not want to endorse such a change.  I think it is correct to say that Francis has confused the cardinals, bishops, priests and parishes. It is sufficient to recall the petition of 120,000 Catholics from around the world, which asked Francis to finally to say a clear word about the indissolubility of marriage. A mere toleration of the second marriage by opening  Communion for divorced and remarried would already be an attack on the traditional teaching of the Church.
At this point, it has come to a slugfest at the last Synod  between progressives and conservatives.
I would call this a tear. The paragraphs of the final document to homosexuals and remarried divorcees had not obtained the required two-thirds approval. The real novelty of that meeting was the strong opposition to the reforms by the African and Eastern bishops. Precisely the bishops of the margins that Bergoglio never gets tired of praising. This is one of the paradoxes of this pontificate.
Who are the others?
Last October, the Pope received representatives of the radical left, from the so-called popular movements. From him he gave  a very Peronist impression that he is closest to social concerns. Who commissioned the Vatican under this pope to check the budget of the Vatican Bank IOR? A globalist-capitalist institution such as Ernst & Young
Or Bergoglio talks about the decentralization of power in the Church, but in his decisions he shows himself as a strong centralizer.
He still enjoys broad appeal in any case?
Yes, the media and outside the Church, where he has even surpassed Wojtyla in popularity. But in the Catholic world he is far less popular. Also, participation in the Angelus and the General Audiences at St. Peter's is in decline.

Malleus (aliquorum) cardinalium -- Hard Times For "Dissenters" Among the Cardinals

(Rome) "Hard times" rule for cardinals who are considered "dissenters" from the path specified by the current Pope. The "Ultrabergogliani" (Master) Internet portal, Vatican Insider , which was created in collaboration with Andrea Tornielli, the House and Palace Vaticanists of Pope Francis announced within the last few days of  blows against three cardinals who had allegedly made such infringements.

Against Cardinal Raymond Burke

On February 14, Vatican insider  grasped with zeal an entry by Archbishop Donald Wuerl of Washington Cardinal  which the latter wrote to his American brother, Raymond Cardinal Burke. Although Cardinal Wuerl had not called his brother Burke by name, Vatican Insider published this even boldly, so that everyone would recognize the addressee,  the accused. Wuerl accused his brother of treason because of his criticism Pope Francis' decisions.

Against Cardinal George Pell

On February 16, Vatican Insider informed with a number of previously unknown details about steps that have been made for Legislative Texts on behalf of Pope Francis and the Pontifical Council to reduce the decision-making powers and responsibilities of George Cardinal Pell as Prefect of the new Economy Secretariat. It was Francis who called Cardinal Pell, Archbishop of Sydney, who was still in Australia exactly one year ago to Rome and placed him at the head of the new Congregation.

Against Cardinal Joseph Zen

On February 19,   Vatican Insider devoted wide space for an article with some sarcastic criticism by an unknown Chinese priest, degrade  Cardinal Joseph Zen, Bishop Emeritus of Hong Kong and undisputed head of  the underground Catholic Church in China loyal to Rome. He was described  in caustically, as boycotting any attempt at "appeasement" between the Holy See and the communist government in Beijing.

Open season on the "kangaroo" Pell

After the Pontifical Council for Legislative Texts and the Pension Fund of the Vatican rose against the Australian cardinal in the ring. On 20 February, he said in a press statement that the pensions of Vatican officials are secured and "disruptive" news in recent months were unfounded.
It is Cardinal Pell, who had been concerned for  months sounding an alarm because of the Vatican's pension funds. For the first time he did so in July 2014, with the announcement that it would have required a committee of experts to study the problems. He repeated it in the British weekly Catholic Herald last December and 13 February on the website crux of the Boston Globe.
Against the attempt by Cardinal Pell to bring order to the pension fund,  the same Board of Directors reacted. The chair  is Domenico Calcagno Cardinal, President of the Administration of the Patrimony of the Apostolic See (APSA),   St. Peter Buildiong Works, the Propaganda Fide, the Secretariat of State, Vatican Radio and the Governor of Vatican City. "In short, the representatives of all these institutions were in a power struggle with Pell, who were struggling to preserve their economic and financial autonomy," said Magister.
Thus, below the encircling attack progress against the man who is often referred to by the English media as the "Czar" of Vatican finances, but within the holy walls, and even in altissimis, he is quite prosaically called the "kangaroo."

"The Plot Against the Pope"

Bishops' Synod
"Who Framed Roger Rabbit?", borrowing from  a cartoon from the late '80s  Lorenzo Bertocchi points out that behind the scenes, significant activities are underway to break the resistance against the "new Mercy" and exercise pressure on those  that stand in its  way. Just yesterday  the Vatican expert Manfred Ferrari reported on the Vatican Mysteries - The Lost Book .
Bertocchi is also about the same book. The story began in the summer of 2014. Shortly before the Synod of Bishops on the family, the first part was published the anthology "Remain in the truth of Christ." The driving force behind it was the American Cardinal Raymond Leo Burke. The book gathered together essays by five cardinals, and four other articles by renowned theologians. These are the Cardinals Walter Brandmüller, Carlo Caffarra Velasio De Paolis, Gerhard Müller and Burke himself. The book was published simultaneously in several languages, the German version is by publisher Echt.

The Book of Five Cardinals

All authors are defending Catholic marriage  and family teaching at the highest level against the thesis that the Cardinal Walter Kasper at the Consistory in February 2014 put forward that "remarried" divorcees can, under certain conditions, have authorization granted to receive the sacraments. The Augustinian Father Robert Dodaro OSA, editor of the anthology, explained it in a nutshell: "The 'merciful' solution Cardinal Kasper represents was not unknown in the early church, but no recognized churchman or theologian  defended them. On the contrary, when it is mentioned then, it is to condemn it, because it is contrary to Scripture."   The  admission to the Eucharist for "the remarried" divorced is therefore impossible, unless the couple would exercise abstinence. This could summarize the main thesis of the book in its Italian edition issued from the publisher Cantagalli.
The book immediately aroused strong opposition, the representatives of the Kasper thesis knew but now that the "new Mercy" at the Synod of Bishops could not expect an unimpeded march. Thesis and antithesis are part of the discourse and are nothing out of the ordinary. But recently the head of the progressivist school of Bologna, Alberto Melloni  fired an arrow in the newspaper Corriere Fiorentino. He did it in the middle of a book review to a very different book released by  Cantagalli.

Melloni's arrow: "Conspiracy against the Pope"

Melloni's arrow says that the publishing house has lent themselves as a base of operations for the opposition of the cardinals.  The left historian: "The publishing house had  with the backing of Cardinal Müller, Prefect of the Congregation of Doctrine and the Faith, in good or bad faith God only knows (...) to foment a plot against the Pope and against the Synod, a few hours before it started, in order not to  discuss the things that Francis  wanted to discuss."
In short: According to Melloni, Cardinal Tagle's former boss,  with whom he participated in the School of Bologna, had accused  five cardinals under conspiring under the leadership of the Prefect, Cardinal Müller,  to "plot" against the Pope and to use the publishing house  as a base of operations. Strong stuff, considering that the book was published at the same time not only in Italy but in five languages and five publishers. Strong stuff even if you know the expiry of the Synod of Bishops, where the Cardinals had openly defended their position and if someone else was playing with marked cards. As a "revelation" of sinister plans, Melloni's arrow is not good, that must also have been clear. What is it about then?

Cardinal Kasper: "Nothing was done by me"

The book, which was a commercial success, provided a significant contribution to the Synod debate. This is exactly what had been repeatedly claimed by Pope Francis. But Cardinal Kasper responded irritably. He felt personally attacked. In interviews he said he was "surprised" by the book with which an "unprecedented situation" had been created. In short, what the five cardinals had dared, was outrageous. In addition, the German cardinal hastened to emphasize, that everything had been arranged with the Pope.
However, this was truly a revelation. Until then, it was officially known, Pope Francis wanted an honest discussion, but not express itself in fact. It could be argued, we do not know what position the Pope took regarding the Kasper thesis. Now, however, says Kasper seven months after the Cardinal Consistory, that everything was discussed with Francis and the Pope had "agreed to everything. They [the five cardinals] knew that I have not done these things of my own accord. I have arranged it with the Pope. I have spoken to him twice. He was satisfied."
Attentive observers could not escape the fact that Pope Francis sought by a whole series of gestures and words, a striking proximity to Kasper and his thesis.  Kasper's revelation provided the confirmation.

Cardinal De Paolis, "I will have the freedom to say what I think"

That was more interesting than the five Cardinals with their essays in no way criticizing the Pope, but at a high level put forward their arguments for the defense of the marriage sacrament. Cardinal De Paolis clarified it in an interview with the daily newspaper La Repubblica : "Not a major operation.  We wanted to make our contribution to the discussion, as we have had our say."   He also adds that there is no question of it being "unprecedented," because the positions had been repeatedly made previously in other settings and  published on another occasion.
Melloni's arrow is reminiscent of the method, where  Soviet bloc dissidents were accused of  "anti-Soviet agitation". "I want to have the freedom to say what I think without becoming  accused as a conspirator" replied Cardinal De Velasio in his interview. In fact, this does not seem to be obvious to some.
Also, the publisher Cantagalli must have the right to be able to do its job without receiving cryptic messages from Melloni. So it is absurd to talk of conspiracy, so it is also true that there have been significant attempts to exert pressure on the publisher not to publish the book. The honest dialogue on the topic: "Speak with boldness" (Pope Francis). Melloni's arrow confirmed five months later that there are important people, according to whom this book ought not have appeared. "You understand Roger Rabbit?" Asks Lorenzo Bertocchi. "Bold" dialog? Of course, but please do so unanimously.

Cardinal Burke to Resist

Edit: this might provide a suggestion as to what happened during Burke's audience.  From the SSPX USA site:

Some frank answers from Cardinal Burke during a French TV interview that will be broadcasted on Sunday, February 8th.
We present here some extracts of Cardinal Raymond Burke's comments given during an interview conducted by Lionel Feuerstein, Karine Comazzi, Patrice Brugeres, Nicolas Berthelos and Claire Aubinais for the “13H15 le dimanche” episode of French Television channel, France2.
The complete interview will be broadcasted on Sunday, February 8 onFranceTV.info.
Cardinal Burke: I cannot accept that Communion can be given to a person in an irregular union because it is adultery. On the question of people of the same sex, this has nothing to do with marriage. This is an affliction suffered by some people whereby they are attracted against nature sexually to people of the same sex.

Question: If perchance the pope will persist in this direction, what will you do?

Cardinal Burke: I shall resist, I can do nothing else. There is no doubt that it is a difficult time; this is clear, this is clear.

Question: Painful?

Cardinal Burke: Yes.

Question: Worrisome?

Cardinal Burke: Yes.

Question: In your opinion, can we say today that the Catholic Church as an institution is threatened?

Cardinal Burke: The Lord has assured us, as He has assured St. Peter in the Gospel, that the powers of evil will not prevail, “non praevalebunt” as we say in Latin, that the forces of evil will not have victory over the Church.

Question of the end: Is the Pope still your friend?

Cardinal Burke (with a smile): I would not want to make the pope an enemy for sure. That is fine for now. [from the context: "That is enough for this interview"].

Cardinal Burke Summoned for Papal Audience

(Rome) Cardinal Raymond Leo Burke, Cardinal Patron of the Sovereign Order of Malta , was received on Thursday by Pope Francis in audience.
The American cardinal, born in 1948, was ordained a priest by Pope Paul VI after completing his theological studies at the Gregorian University in Rome in 1975 by Pope Paul VIIn the United States he was active in counseling  and education, then completed a doctorate in canon law at the Gregorian University and returned in 1984 to the United States where he worked in pastoral care and as Vice-Chancellor of his home diocese in Wisconsin. Because of his reputation as an excellent canonist Pope John Paul II. brought him to Rome as   defender of the bond of marriage in  the Supreme Court of the Apostolic Signatura in Rome.
In 1994 he was appointed bishop of his home diocese of La Crosse, 2003, then an appointment as Archbishop of St. Louis and in 2008 by Pope Benedict XVI. appointed him Prefect of the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura in Rome and thus to the Dicastry Head of the Roman Curia.
On November 10, 2014, the Holy See Press Office announced in its day Bulletin  that Cardinal Burke was replaced as Prefect of the Apostolic Signatura on November 8 and made Cardinal patron of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta.
The relatively young cardinal was thus removed as Dicastry Head, away from the Roman Curia and deported to a post of honor without a role in church leadership. This unusual degradation was already effective in September.  Cardinal Burke himself made public the instructions.

Punishment and Removal from Church Leadership and Synod of Bishops

The American cardinal had, like no other Cardinal of the Catholic Church,  expressed criticism in the past few months   for the administration,  gestures, decisions and statements of Pope Francis. As the Head of a Dicastry, Cardinal Burke  was in office because of the Synod of Bishops on the family. There, the conflict came to a head when he openly spoke of "manipulation " and "betrayal"  and accused Pope Francis in the way he handled  controversial topics in the Synod of Bishops, "to have caused a lot of damage."  In October 2015, there will be a second decisive part of the Synod of Bishops. Due to his distance from the Roman Curia, Cardinal Burke can not participate officially. Only the Pope himself could appoint him as a member of the synod, which is yet considered very unlikely.
All observers, no matter what direction, saw the dismissal of a punishment of the Cardinal. Already in the fall of 2013, Pope Francis had severely curtailed the influence of the American Cardinal of his Church leadership by removing him from two congregations. Above all, Burke's influence on the appointment of bishops in the United States, which he had under Pope Benedict XVI, had been completely eliminated. Among the Cardinals, who opposed the defense of the marriage sacrament of the Kasper Group, Cardinal Burke was the real engine. Due to his removal from the Curia, orthodoxy would lose its dynamic head.
Just two months after the demotion, Pope Francis is to receive his critic. Prior to the drastic personnel decision, there was no discussion between the Pope and the Cardinal.  Cardinal Francis had only  granted one audience, which took place on 11 June-2013. The content of the yesterday's meeting is unknown.
