In the eighties, it was not uncommon to see a Civil Rights agitator and pastor of a storefront Pentecostal or Baptist church giving a press conference on the boob tube dressed like he had just been shoplifting at Gammarelli’s.
These coloureds had a thing for the most ostentatious pre-Conciliar vestments. Admittedly, the way they put their ensembles together revealed their confusion but you had to acknowledge they had better taste in vestments than Novus Ordites who couldn’t even figure out that the stole went under the chasuble.
I had a good laugh when I recalled all those black preachers dressing up like Catholic bishops for the cameras. Now, I'm crying because they weren't as heterodox and gay as our true hierarchy.
