Or do you think Pius IX lost the See, ipso facto, by espousing heresy prior to his election, or even during his term as Pontiff? Paul IV’s Cum ex Apostolatus Officio would support that understanding, given you believe the First Vatican Council was an infallible Ecumenical Council. John XXIII and Paul VI both have a strong cases for suspicion of heresy prior to their respective elevations to the Pontificate. On Roncalli alone:
