Breaking: Bishop Williamson to Consecrate Bishop

[Rorate] It was only a matter of time. Ever since Bishop Richard Williamson eventually caused the Society of Saint Pius X (FSSPX / SSPX) to force his own expulsion from that Society in 2012, the watch has been on for him to consecrate one or more bishops. This became even more inevitable as he has failed to recruit any significant number of clergy or faithful away from the SSPX in a so-called "Resistance" attempt.

Rorate can now report at least one consecration will occur on March 19 (Feast of St. Joseph).

  1. And this means what exactly? A little explanation for someone who doesn't know the backstory would be nice.

  2. That Bishop Williamson will consecrate a Bishop is bad news, but good can come from it. Good, only because hopefully it will awaken in the minds and hearts of the Anti-Traditionalists to stop their persecution of us and finally open the doors to the most faithful sons and daughters of the Church. This will bring more attention to the good that is in the Traditionalist Movement.

    2. Sean Paul Johnson, What Bishop Williamson has decided to do in Consecrating a Bishop or Bishops, I see no grave necessity. His Excellency Bishop Bernard Fellay is a man who is strong in his firmness to Tradition. He cannot be swayed, its the Church's way or no way at all, he makes no compromises and the Modernists know this already. Cardinal Muller has obviously become more Traditional friendly. It was he who reopened the talks when before it seems he was ignoring the whole matter. I believe he now really wants a regularization of the SSPX. It is my opinion that Cardinal Muller after seeing the devastating path Pope Francis is attempting to lead the Church, now see's the points the SSPX has been making known for 40 years. Without Traditional Catholics the Church will become more of a mess than it already has been. Bishop Williamson was expelled from the Society because he wanted a real schism and he has few priests following him. The man is desperate. The SSPX is in true union with Eternal Rome and has no intention of breaking away from Christ's Church, thats what their battle has been for 40 years.

    3. Is there a prize for "Most Humorous Response?"

  3. Bishop Williamson isn't a very good administrator, perhaps his successor will be better at it, but this will provide an outlet for the more rabid individuals who've gathered under the umbrella of the Society to simmer and percolate.

  4. If the Magisterium accepts that Vatican Council II can be interpreted without Marchetti's irrational premise and conclusion then the Church comes back to Tradition, as Bishop Williamson sought

  5. Bishop Williamson is much like Pope Francis, its my way and not the 2000 year Tradition of the Church's way. The SSPX is much different, its the Church's 2000 year Tradition way, not their way, nor the Modernist way. Thats the true Roman Catholic Church.

  7. In 1988, Archbishop Lefevbre was sensing his long life was coming to it's close, and so he consecrated four of his young Priests to carry on his work in the SSPX, until Rome came back to it's former ways. If, as Bishop Williamson's spokesperson claims, Bishop W. is planning the consecration 'to save the Church' ,so that Tradition will continue, then why has he chosen a 73 year old? B. Williamson is about that age himself! This aspect alone makes no sense!
