Visitor Assigned to Axe Bishop Finn

Edit: after reading the petty accusation against +Finn, one can only conclude that Opus Bishops are no longer needed in leadership, especially when they dare to teach the Catholic Faith. NCR should be sued for even calling themselves a Catholic newspaper.

[NCR] Canadian archbishop visited the Kansas City-St. Joseph, Mo., diocese last week on behalf of the Vatican to investigate the leadership of Bishop Robert Finn, the first Catholic prelate to be found criminally guilty of shielding a priest in the ongoing clergy sexual abuse crisis.
Ottawa, Ontario, Archbishop Terrence Prendergast visited the Midwestern diocese for several days last week, interviewing more than a dozen people about Finn's leadership, several of those interviewed told NCR.

According to those who spoke with Prendergast, the main he question asked was: "Do you think [Finn] is fit to be a leader?"

  1. They lack no gall. Cynically smart, perhaps, to sack any bishop who is at all orthodox if there is any hint of misconduct by subordinates. Thus, they get to look tough on misconduct without removing their favorites whom they wish to shield from inquiry into real misconduct.

  2. Maybe he stopped by a certain Monastery in MN on his way North?

    1. IF he had done that, he would now be in good graces with the lavender lio crowd....francis might even be giving him a red hat soon, IF he had done that.

  3. Finn is a good Bishop, and the Vatican should keep their nose out of his business. What was the famous QUOTE of the day "who am I to judge" he better take his word to work

  4. Can you please discuss a bit about Monsignor Finn ? I don't know anything about the matter, and it would be interesting to compare his situation to Monsignor Livieres' one.
    Thank you

  5. Robert Finn is a good man, and a good priest. He was inexperienced when he was made an ordinary. He was never a pastor. He never had the experience with being responsible for the spiritual lives of a faith community. His bishops did him a grave disservice shuttering him away to the chancery, and not putting him in charge of a parish for two or three decades.

Bishop Finn allowed himself to be duped by a sexual addict, and he lacked the maturity to discern what was going on amongst his people, especially his troubled priests.

My daughter's friends were among those photographed by Shawn Ratigan. He was a conservative priest too. Being conservative or traditional is no guarantee of virtue or maturity or suitability for the responsibility of being a bishop.

    1. Being liberal and heterodox is no guarantee of virtue, maturity or suitability for the responsibility of being a bishop either.

Maybe you want your daughters and her friends photographed like this:

      Or like this:

      http://www.traditioninaction.org/RevolutionPhotos/A590-Nara.htm

Or maybe you want them learning this 'catechism' of Cardinal Danneels (one of bergoglio's personal appointments to the sinod on the family):

"Included were drawings such as the one above, in which a naked baby girl is saying: 'Stroking my p**sy feels groovy,' and 'I like to take my knickers off with friends' and 'I want to be in the room when Mum and Dad have sex.' Another drawing shows a naked little boy and girl that are 'playing doctor' and the little boy is saying, 'Look, my willy is big.'
Another drawing shows three pairs of parents. Those with the 'correct' attitude -- and remember, this meant to be an official handbook of Church teaching -- reply, ' Yes feeling and stroking those little places"

Bergoglio and his henchmen Wuerl, Dolan, Cupich, Danneels, McCarrick, Mahony, Martini, Woelki, Schonborn are vicious (vice ridden), malicious (evil) men wielding their bully baseball bat against traditionalists and conservatives not to guard your daughter (and her friends) from sexual predators but to turn her into Miley Cyrus and kill her soul.

BTW. how many bishops do you know who had 20-30 years in a parish? Please name some names.

    3. Aren't you a big Collegeville guy, Todd?

    4. I for one appreciate Todd's response, which reflects what Todd can express when moved by the better angels of his nature. I think, having been in Bishop Finn's flock in KC once myself, that it is not...an entirely unfair assessment, especially by someone of a different theological persuasion (as Todd is). As I have learned through personal experience, it's rarely healthy for a priest to spend too long in a chancery, no matter how good its master is. And most chanceries are a long chalk away from "good" places.

And speaking as a traditionalist formerly of KC, and ever grateful for the many good things Bishop Finn has done there, I have detected much of the same naivete in some of his actions that Todd adverts to.

Here is the difficulty, however: "His bishops did him a grave disservice shuttering him away to the chancery, and not putting him in charge of a parish for two or three decades." The very same charge can be laid at the steps of those who mentored a great many American bishops over the last several decades. Indeed, that's usually the path to a bishop's chair in America, whether one is liberal (which, let's be honest, most have been) or conservative or traditional. I doubt Todd would dispute this point. I think we also agree that it's important that we get bishops with serious pastoral experience - the short box-checking assignment to a parish before return to administrative or teaching work doesn't quite cut it.

Setting the rest of your post to one side - Todd's very liberal, but he's trying his best to be charitable to Bishop Finn, and let's not let that go unacknowledged - that's a valid question to ask. I'm hard pressed to name any myself.

    7. Tancred, no. More Ignatian than Benedictine.

I would agree that in any age, experience as a pastor is essential, and that generally, age 60 is a good time to be a bishop. There might be exceptions, but not without significant real-church experience.

Personally, I have no problems with a conservative pastor or bishop, and I generally get along better with them than with liberals. I do have a problem with a lack of experience, competence, and seasoning.

I recall when Fulton Sheen retired as the ordinary in Rochester, he pressed hard for the Congregation of Bishops to name a local pastor as his successor. They did. I don't think there's any good reason to avoid that as an ordinary practice in a diocese.

    8. They're hardly Benedictines.

You contribute favorably a lot to their dissident "Liturgy" blog, "Gay, Tell".

I assume silence is tacit approval.

    9. Silence? What are you talking about? Usually when a person has lost their bearings in a discussion or has run out of things to contribute they get distracted and attempt to talk about their conversation partners. This thread isn't about me. It's about Bishop Robert Finn.

Why are you so curious about me?

      Delete
    10. Not curious, I just know what you are.

It's also hard to think you're a credible judge of a Catholic bishop.

Especially when you consider that Collegeville is probably has the largest concentration [mostly unsupervised] of clerical sexual sexual predators in the world, and almost no one, no one in a position of authority anyway, has anything to say about it, but then you hold +Finn to a pretty high standard there.

Those "Masses" you host are appallingly bad.

    15. Todd has everything he needs, the adulation of like-minded charlatans, food, money, a respectable bourgeois situation, what does he want Catholicism for?

  6. Funny Todd how you seem to know all about Bishop Finn's maturity and suitability, but don't seem to have a clue about the suitability of Bergoglio who PERSONALLY APPOINTED Cardinal Danneels to the Sinod on the 'family'. Danneels REFUSED to do anything about this 'catechism':

"Included were drawings such as the one above, in which a naked baby girl is saying: 'Stroking my p**sy feels groovy,' and 'I like to take my knickers off with friends' and 'I want to be in the room when Mum and Dad have sex.' Another drawing shows a naked little boy and girl that are 'playing doctor' and the little boy is saying, 'Look, my willy is big.'
Another drawing shows three pairs of parents. Those with the 'correct' attitude -- and remember, this meant to be an official handbook of Church teaching -- reply, ' Yes feeling and stroking those little places is good fun.'
Dr Colen discovered this catechism among the school books of her 13-year old daughter in 1997"

If Finn needs to be removed, much more does Danneels --

And what about Bergoglio who presides at WYD 'mass' where gay porn star teaches the youth how to dance?

How would the parents feel if their daughter was photographed wearing this?

    Here's the pope's 'take':

Or maybe your daughter (or her friends) could be photographed like this:

    http://www.traditioninaction.org/RevolutionPhotos/A590-Nara.htm

Maybe they could be treated to the last supper as a homosexual orgy by another cardinal NOT being investigated by Bergoglio (and who will also be at the Sinod):

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/05/22/conchita-wurst-archbishop-vienna-schonborn_n_5374127.html

Cardinal Wuerl will be there too: "Here is an instance of where the book is not for the faint-hearted. If you don't like to read sexually graphic accounts, do not read what Engel has to say about the rite of sodomy here (for it will make you sick): Burnett stated that the abuse ritual began with drinks, a Coke for him and Coke and alcohol for [Fr. Raymond] Page [his uncle] and [Bishop] Wright. Wright would then undress him, fall on his knees before the standing boy and cover him with kisses -- feet, penis, nipples and lips. He and Page would then undress and while the latter stimulated Wright from behind (without penetration), Bill would fellate the bishop. When Wright neared ejaculation he would turn Bill around and sodomize him. Then Page took his turn at raping his nephew.... When it was all over, Wright handed Bill a $20 bill like he always did. Then Bishop Wright was made Bishop of Pittsburgh, and this is where Wuerl became his private secretary, protégé, and remained at Wright's side (as he was made a cardinal) until Wright's death in 1979. Is this guilt by association? Who knows?"

  7. There can be no doubt that many bishops and priests are conformed to the Devil - for otherwise they could not fail to zealously preach against the evil of sexual perversion which threatens so many souls, never mind in many cases, endorse same by their words and deeds. Blessed Michael, the Archangel, defend us in battle . . .
