French Bishops Have at Each Other After Synod Report

(Paris) The ambiguity of the Synod Final Report is showing its real impact in France. The French Bishops' Conference seem to have been "overthrown with utter confusion"  by the Relatio finalis on the subject of remarried divorcees. says Corrispondenza Romana.
Those who had hoped  the Synod of Bishops would provide clear tools and a unique orientation, have been disappointed. The result is a compromise which conceals a superficial fundamental disagreement in the first place. Accordingly  a  different result is read.

Different Readings

Three main readings are emerging: The Kasperians, including  Cardinals Kasper, Marx and Schönborn, read the result more in a "hermeneutic of rupture" as an "opening" to a "new" Church of individual subjectivism. Defenders of Catholic teaching on marriage can be divided into two groups. Some, including the spokesman of the anti-Kasperians at the Synod, Cardinals Pell and Cardinal Müller,  read in it a "hermeneutic of continuity" as the preservation of the traditional teaching of the Church, because the demands of Kasperians were blocked. Another part, including Cardinal Burke and Auxiliary Bishop Athanasius Schneider, read the compromise formulas as a foot which the Kasperians have put in the door. They see how their Kasperian opponents have put a hermeneutics of rupture at work that does not allow unrestricted reading of continuity, as the text has been corrupted by the search for a compromise.
Half sentences, partial citations, omissions, misleading choices of words, recourse to a non-theological language and a minority that is determined to have a traditional foreign interpretation, bringing the Church into confusion, as the example of France shows.

The Synod Final Report and a Lot of Questions?

The Bishops' Conference of France dealt with Autumn Plenary session with the final report of the Synod. Numerous questions were raised: If adultery remains forbidden, what  then is the phrase, for example,  "more complete participation in the life of the Church" for adulterers who are found in the Synod final report?
The President of the Episcopal Conference, Archbishop Georges Pontier of Marseilles, was satisfied with the finding that the final report really contained   countless questions that were "deepening." The Archbishop named a few examples: "How can one talk about the state of sin to a remarried couple who have lived together for 30 years? Can one speak in such a case of adultery?"
The answer to the question is clear, according to Catholic doctrine. If the couple do not find themselves in a   state of sin, doesn't   the many years that have passed consist in  a serious omission. However, this omission does not alter their state of adultery. A clear answer, which no longer seems to be so clear-cut after the Synod.
Archbishop Pontier continued: "Do we have the power, to x-ray  the existence of anyone, so that we can refuse him access to communion? What's desacralization to our Christian life? "  In this case too, everything seems to concentrate on the  codification of misunderstandings.

Is the  Church in an  "era of pastoral experiments"

The Bishop of Ajaccio (Corsica), Msgr. Olivier de Germany, therefore were irritated by paragraph 85 of the final report, which was adopted only because a single vote into majority. The Bishop sees in the term "discrimination" the danger of "subjectivism": "You could fall into subjectivism and thus in injustice." The subjunctive appears not to be necessary because the Kasperians require this condition and promote it openly, so it is already partly reality.
.The young Archbishop of Saint-Pierre et Fort-de-France, the Dominican Bishop David Macaire said in the Plenary Assembly of the Bishops' Conference: "Houston, please come, we have a problem!" He warned that the Church was standing before, an "era of pastoral experiments."
The Bishop of Gap, Msgr. Jean-Michel di Falco Leandri-, noted that "the disagreements and divisions of the Synod" by the final report was handed one-to-one to the Assembly of the Episcopal Conference. And this is true not only for France. After the Synod, confusion seems to entitle  everyone in the Church to read from the double Synod, whatever he wants to read.

The Example of the Diocese of Belfort-Montbéliard

Evening lecture in the Diocese of Belfort-Montbeliard
A striking example of this is the French Roman Catholic Diocese of Belfort-Montbéliard. The Office for Family Pastoral Care of the Diocese organized for the upcoming November 20 an evening lecture with discussion on the topic: "A family together again." Those who expect that it is about the healing of a sacramental marriage or its aim is to bring order to an irregular situation are mistaken. There is also the approach in Belfort-Montbeliard  that is to be found in dioceses in the German-speaking countries that "hurt families" have to be accepted as fact.  When talking about "wounded families,"  of course,  the broken sacramental marriages are not what is meant, but the special   irregular connections , those  married divorced again.  They should be comforted and offered help  in their state. After all, the most daring thesis is that they were discriminated against by the Church, since they are excluded from the sacraments. The Church has an obligation to them. Where they travel they will be  "accompanied",  to remain virtually open-ended. "Accompanying" is the service of the Church, but the goal is  determined by each individual. There should be no fixed standards. It is about a way from somewhere to anywhere. The actual state should not be criticized ("Who am I to judge," Pope Francis).
For this reason,  a priest won't be speaking on November 20 in Trevenans to preach the Catholic doctrine as the only real liberation and healing doctrine, but the family therapist Gerard Vallat. He will speak on "Separation as lived grief of parents and children". There is no charge for the breakup of a family. Such is assumed to be a kind of "natural law" that man only suffers, but can not influence. For this reason, there are only "victims", but neither guilt nor responsibility.

Church as a service: helping people realize their subjective will

Salvation will not be an issue in Trevenans. The theme will be how to best determine stages of life according to ones'  own individual wellness needs and make to those in the converted living reality also including "stage of life partnerships." The perspective is therefore also not be the salvation of sacramental marriage, because what is on the rocks, had just shattered. It's no longer about to put together the pieces of the vase, which was thrown by a specific person or specific people on the floor and shattered. Broken is broken. But it could, says the message, create something new (Love Falls, here today, gone tomorrow).
The children, even children who have just been unlucky. They are to be therapeutically  helped what  with all occupational groups (not priests) work and client groups,   to teach them that with their parents, everyone had a right for to achieve their individual life plans for themselves. Today is today and  tomorrow is just different. Children or not. The main thing is "respect" the other and do not resort to any physical violence.
In short, it was not a question, to fix the damage caused by his father and mother, but to help them "build new bonds". This is "a perspective of utter capitulation. The spirit of the synod is already blowing strong in the Church of France," said Corrispondenza Romana.

Ettore Gottie-Tedeschi: Letter to My Granddaughter -- After the Synod on the Family

Letter to my granddaughter -- Ettore Tedeschi
(Rome) The internationally renowned banker and financial ethicist Ettore Gotti Tedeschi- who was from 2009 to 2012, President of the Vatican bank IOR, wrote a few days after the end of the Synod of Bishops on the Family, a letter to his granddaughter, who has just  come into the world. In this letter he expresses his unease about the current situation, about the spiritual constitution of the globalizing world and the universal Church as well as the basics of their actions. One criticism that goes far beyond the Family Synod.
The letter is a fictional look into the future: clear, sober and astute. And all with a dash of provocation, because of expressions of maldevelopment, false assumptions, misguided priorities and misguided meaning and shifts of emphasis are things he recognizes. The tenor underlying it all: humanity needs a reckoning, they will face the challenges ahead. This applies especially for the Catholic Church, especially and primarily for her pastors, because they are custodians of a primary responsibility for the world and humanity.
,

Letter to My Granddaughter about the Family Synod

Ettore Gotti-Tedeschi by-
This letter I write to my granddaughter Olivia, who was born a month ago, so that in 20 years when she reads it, can better understand the world in which she will live.

Dear Olivia,

in 20 years you could feel the desire to marry. What sacramental marriage will be in 20 years yet depends on us today, or rather, it seems to depend on a referendum, from the assembly of the faithful ...
A synod on marriage ended a few days ago and with the Newspapers reading that one might come to the conclusion that all have triumphed (Progressives and Conservative), just as we are used to from political elections. If you read the letter of the Synod Secretary, Cardinal Lorenzo Baldisseri to the Corriere della Sera on 27 October, one might get the impression that the one concerned (the people of God) decides himself, being interviewed by questionnaire of the sensus fidei. Because the herd possesses the right "sense of smell" in order to discern what the Church has to do in the things that concerns them. And eventually,  finds the Holy Spirit in the faithful echo of the voice  - of course. But this, I fear, we will, in order to know what sacrament  you can expect, must await the decision of the meeting of  the assembly on the matter of interested faithful ...

Dear Olivia,

every era has always had its misery, its tragedies and its greatness. That's right, since man has tried to give his life and his actions meaning. And that has  always happened   since the moral authorities of different religions try to explain the reasons for good and evil. But your era is in danger, since the moral authorities disappear, that they have been mediated by a global world and brought into line under the pretext of wanting to avoid global conflicts that were inflicted by dogmas and fundamentalisms, as if these were spread especially in the wake of evangelization. I fear that the moral authorities will no longer be the same and to the detriment of the knowledge of the truth and the victory of faith. You'll find out for yourself when you receive religious education in a few years.
To whom else should  the responsibility for all this be attributed, if not the Gnosis, that triumphs everywhere? In philosophy it has succeeded to even put into perspective what is absolute. In anthropology, it has succeeded, the people have downgraded themselves  to a more or less intelligent animal, which is a cancer of the nature. In the economy, it has managed to make believe that the economic misery has spawned morality. In science and technology, it has managed to make them believe that both must have a moral autonomy.
The moral authorities (of various religions) have reacted in different ways to this suppression. In some circles and cultures they react with violence. In others, they can be intimidated out of fear of being ostracized. And in order not to be regarded as fundamentalists, they go so far as to sin, to justify and clever disguise the errors and disorder.

Dear Olivia,

the world in which you are growing tall will assert the theory of evolution, but in reality,  mankind , God's creature, is wild. In this world in which you grow up, you'll encounter some dangers. In order to survive these risks, you'll need to be well prepared.
The first risk will be to not understand whether the truth comes before or after  freedom,  to look for them as if they are only made in dialogue with other truths created or existing independently of it.
The second risk will be to not be able to understand what is the cause of the ills that afflict the people, whether it is really economic injustice, or actually moral injustice.
Another danger is in the effort  to understand the subtle difficulty in deciding between mercy and justice if these seem to be conflict with each other.
These and many other risks are all the greater when the moral authorities cloud the water, when  they   abandon the ideas and behaviors which give correction and orientation to people; If you instead, this adapt by excusing them  and accepting, are changed by them. In other words: by adjusting to the time that demands an evolutionary dynamics in understanding the laws of nature.
Holy Church has known through the times, thanks to the Saints,  to act for changes to straighten the errors of men: think of the heresies of Protestantism, the Modernism.
Today, however,   Gnosis succeeds, even  to deny the truth where it is, and even to place   freedom of conscience, where it does not belong. The Gnosis has succeed today, the Church is denied the right to evangelize  (from respect for other cultures) and demands she  leave the (as bad or hardly ever formed) conscience to decide what is good and what is evil. That's like calling a blind man to cross a busy intersection without any help, and thus expose him to the risk of being struck down. They expect the Church to leave men in freedom to decide according to his conscience, what is good for him, without thinking about it, and that is tantamount to putting a mouse in front of a fragrant cheese with a well-camouflaged, deadly trap connected to it. They expect the Church to abandon the believers,  to rule on the maturity of their conscience to return to the flock.
All this allows me to explain to you, dear Olivia,   at the same time why there is global warming. It exists because the number of souls is so great, that are on the way to burn in Hell, because of the spreading confusion in teaching.

Not All the Synod Fathers Understood Final Report They Agreed To? It's Only Available in Italian.

(Rome) During  catechesis held in Italian during today's general audience, Pope Francis also came to speak on the Synod of Bishops. The Catholic Church leader said:
"The Assembly of the Synod, which ended recently, has considered hard  the vocation and mission of the family in the life of the Church and in today's society. It was an event of grace. At the end of the Synod, the Fathers  handed me the text of their conclusions. I wanted that this text will be published so that everyone can participate in the work that saw us collaborate together for two years. This is not the time to examine these conclusions, I have to think about for myself. Meanwhile, life does not remain standing, especially the lives of the families, it does not stand still. "
Thus, the Pope headed over to catechesis.

Amazingly Reference to the Synod Final Report

The  Pope's reference that he had desired that the final report of the Synod, the Relatio finalis, be  published, amazed. Not even in the Italian text of catechesis, published on the official website of the Holy See, is linked to the final report, but only to a general page of the papal speeches to the synod. In the English summary of the catechesis it is also linked to the general page and nowhere in the German summary.
The final report of the Synod adopted on 24 October is to this day only in an Italian version. The closing speech of the Pope on the same day, and the Pope's homily for the closing Mass on 25 October have been published on the same day in different languages.
It would therefore be difficult for the "all" mentioned by the Pope, "to participate in the work." Those responsible, directly under the pope in the General Secretariat of the Synod, shows no interest in translations.

Doubts that all Synod Fathers Understood the Final Report

The fact that the final report of a synod of the world church was presented to the Synod Fathers on 24 October in Italian had only caused some irritation. Although the Italian language is de facto that of the Church as an unofficial lingua franca, it has no official status. It is a popular language among many others. There are doubts whether all the Synod Fathers have sufficient knowledge of Italian to actually capture the final report in all its importance.
Does the Pope not know   that the report is only available in Italian? Who decides the translations? Why are the Synod Fathers not in position to safely understand  the final report, on which they had agreed? Why the faithful and the public  not be able to be able to really read and understand the final report?

Scary Halloween Synod Letter Read at the Synod Hall

Edit: just in time for Halloween and the anniversary of Martin Luther's nailing of the 95 Theses.

This is the unofficial and probably aberrofriendly English translation of the relatio post disceptationem. What it means is anyone's guess, but it provides ammunition to those who want to legitimize things the Church has always and everywhere condemned for two millennia.

1.          During the prayer vigil held in St Peter’s Square on 4 October 2014 in preparation for the Synod on the family, Pope Francis evoked the centrality of the experience of family in all lives, in a simple and concrete manner: “Evening falls on our assembly. It is the hour at which one willingly returns home to meet at the same table, in the depth of affection, of the good that has been done and received, of the encounters which warm the heart and make it grow, good wine which hastens the unending feast in the days of man. It is also the weightiest hour for one who finds himself face to face with his own loneliness, in the bitter twilight of shattered dreams and broken plans; how many people trudge through the day in the blind alley of resignation, of abandonment, even resentment: in how many homes the wine of joy has been less plentiful, and therefore, also the zest — the very wisdom — for life […]. Let us make our prayer heard for one another this evening, a prayer for all”.

2.        The source of joys and trials, of deep affections and relations – at times wounded – the family is truly a “school of humanity” (“Familia schola quaedam uberioris humanitatis est”, Vatican Council II, Constitution on the Church in the Modern World, Gaudium et Spes, 52), of which we are in great need. Despite the many signs of crisis in the institution of the family in various contexts of the “global village”, the desire for family remains alive, especially among the young, and is at the root of the Church’s need to proclaim tirelessly and with profound conviction the “Gospel of the family” entrusted to her with the revelation of God’s love in Jesus Christ.

3.        The Bishop of Rome called upon the Synod of Bishops to reflect upon the situation of the family, decisive and valuable, in its Extraordinary General Assembly of October 2014, a reflection which will then be pursued in greater depth in the Ordinary General Assembly scheduled to take place in October 2015, as well as during the full intervening year between the two synodal events. “The convenire in unum around the Bishop of Rome is already an event of grace, in which episcopal collegiality is made manifest in a path of spiritual and pastoral discernment”: thus Pope Francis described the synodal experience, indicating its tasks in the dual process of listening to the signs of God and the history of mankind and in the resulting dual and unique fidelity.

Will There be a Post-Synodal Letter? Clearly

Cardinal Parolin
(Rome) The question whether there would be a post-synodal letter from the Pope on the family synod,  concluded after two years last Sunday, remains unanswered. Such a letter was provided to the beginning of the Synod in 2015 as a matter of course. Since, however, on the first day of the Synod work, on the 5th of October, where a letter of complaint from thirteen high-ranking cardinals-synod showed fierce opposition to the line of Pope Francis, nothing is safe.
Even before the protest letter of the Cardinals was announced, the Pope's confidant,  Cardinal Luis Tagle went public and was left everything open if there would be a Post-Synodal Letter, and even if there would ever be a final report of the Synod.  Vatican spokesman Federico Lombardi reiterated this statement on  the 10th of October and spoke on the synod to general amazement and even more uncertainty which took place previously.  Since then, conflicting statements follow whether it will be as usual or will there be no first Post-Synodal Letter of the Pope given. The Pope and his closest collaborators have improvised, since the letter of Thirteen and they have pretty badly improvised, wanting to impose  the Laboris Instrumentum  virtually unchanged on the synod as a final report. At this point, the Synod would almost have failed and therefore was only likely to emerge for special observers, but not the public is for this pontificate like  none yet previously in recent Church history.

From Ratzingerian to Bergoglian

That has not come about because of any of the spokesmen, neither Cardinal Kasper nor Cardinal Müller wanted it to happen and were searching frantically for a compromise formula that was somehow acceptable. Cardinal Schönborn mediated with skill. The diplomatic multiplication table was given him in the cradle. So it is surprising that nevertheless, a third of the Synod has refused the decisive compromise to the divorced and remarried, suggesting organized resistance. Organized so that it eluded the European diplomat's parquet. The great commitment of Kasperians in their search for compromise  shows who was  worried about the failure of the Synod or at least feared it more. It also shows that a significant part of Kasperians are progressive in protection of the papacy, but there are not real modernist hardliners. They have neatly hidden their stances in previous pontificates  and only now dare to have the knowledge or the hope of the Pope at their side, for entrance to royal circles.  In this group there is the Vienna Archbishop Christoph Schönborn, who after a moment of irritation after the conclave with waving flags from Ratzingerians, became a Bergoglian. And in the same way that he is no longer lifted by the neoconservatives on the shield of the papabili, but by those who were considered to be outside, on the extreme left a short time ago.

The Revenge of Familiaris Consortio

The defeat for Pope Francis leaves completely open the question of a post-synodal letter. The penultimate family Synod had been called by John Paul II. in 1980. They met and in 1981 the post-synodal letter Familiaris Consortio  followed, which is still seen as a solid cornerstone to marriage and family.

Yet Pope Francis felt yet another family Synod was needed, because the times have changed since and the Synod from 1980 has not provided a moving response to today's questions. Already it was indicated that the topics of divorce and remarriage, homosexuality  circumvent  Humanae Vitae. There was objectively no need to form a new family Synod.  Rather, to call things by their names, there were some results of the Synod from 1980 that are not applicable a part of the church, that part which had refused to follow the encyclical in 1968 Humanae Vitaa, that part, which saw itself kept away from the levers of power during the " restorative phase" of the pontificates of the Polish and German popes (1978-2013), and is hungry for his hour.
The fact that now precisely Familiaris Consortio is quoted in the crucial paragraph of the Synod Final report of 2015 and called as a guideline, revealed the whole fiasco of the new Synod, with two years, the longest and was also the longest most extensive.  A Roman proverb applies here: "A lot of smoke but little roast"?
The question of whether there will now be a Post-Synodal Letter or not despite,  the  the rather unsuccessful conclusion of the synod from   the pope's point of view, with  Familiaris Consortio to be supplemented or overcome, is still open.  An attempt at an improvised reversal of the results by means of sympathetic mass media, had already been criticized by one of the Pope's critics Antonio Socci immediately after the end of the Synod.

Cardinal Secretary of State: "I think" that there will be, "a Post-Synodal Letter" This Time

Yesterday [Weds],  Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin gave an interview to the Italian section of Vatican Radio. If you read his words exactly, no sure answer is obtained. Just this: It seems that there will still be a Post-Synodal Letter.
The publication of the final report of the Synod was explicitly requested by the thirteen Cardinals in their letter of complaint. They wanted, after the bad experiences of the synod in 2014,  to counteract the danger of being completely exploited by a manipulative information policy.

The interview was introduced on the outset of a conference at the Gregoriana about the Conciliar document, Nostra Aetate.
Cardinal Parolin: "With the delivery of the message to the Pope, the Synod has offered him the possibility to translate it into a papal document. As this is usually done for all synods, the Synod Fathers have offered the Pope  a number of considerations and conclusions. Then she the Pope will come up with a document of his own. I think it will take place this time too. It is the Pope who has to decide. The Pope has already made a decision, namely that,  he will publish the final report of the Synod, which was addressed to him. He wanted that it is known.
Vatican Radio: Will the time be long or short?
Cardinal Parolin: I do not know the time. I do not know. First of all is to see what the pope intends to do. I suppose that it will not be very long, because you usually have to do such things in a relatively short time, otherwise you will lose some its strength and effect. If the Pope decides to do it,  I think he will do it in a relatively short time.

Even the Neocons Are Getting Anxious

Edit: when George Neumayr gets critical like this... Is the Apocalypse coming? Even Neocons are angry at this Pope. Still, he doesn't go far enough. Surely, anyone who's tried to be a faithful Catholic at some point has experienced a spiteful leftist who can't contain his contempt for the faithful Catholic?

The Pope's Caricaturing Conservatives

[Spectator] The scandalous synod on the family skidded to a stop last weekend in Rome but not before Pope Francis got in a few more licks at conservatives, whom he caricatured in his final remarks as heartless.

The speech was notable for its nastiness, displaying the very lack of charity he routinely assigns to conservatives. The synod, he said, had exposed “closed hearts which frequently hide even behind the Church’s teachings or good intentions, in order to sit in the chair of Moses and judge, sometimes with superiority and superficiality, difficult cases and wounded families.”

He continued: “It was about trying to open up broader horizons, rising above conspiracy theories and blinkered viewpoints, so as to defend and spread the freedom of the children of God, and to transmit the beauty of Christian Newness, at times encrusted in a language which is archaic or simply incomprehensible.”

Cardinal Arinze Counters Cardinal Marx

The emeritus Cardinal has clearly rejected proposals regarding the possible admission of remarried divorcees to Communion. The Ten Commandments were given by God, no one should consider himself wiser.

Rome (kath.net/LSN/jg)
Francis Cardinal Arinze has rejected proposals to relax the ban on Communion for divorced and civilly remarried  in no uncertain terms. Proposals of this kind had been expresed by Cardinal Reinhard Marx, Archbishop of Munich and Freising  at the Synod of Bishops. Marx had justified its recommendation, among other things, saying that for many it appears "unrealistic" to require remarried divorcees abstinence. Sexual activity should also be assessed in each "life context". Kath.net has reported.

Cardinal Arinze said: "The Ten Commandments have been given to us by God. Do we have the authority to say it was 'unrealistic' to expect the people to control themselves?" With the proposed argumentation, one could allow people to disobey any commandment of God. If you could say to the civilly divorced and remarried, that they need not obey the sixth Commandment, why should  there not similar  exceptions from the other commandments  be allowed, asked the emeritus Cardinal.

Christ has foreseen every possible situation, as he had announced his commandments. No one should consider himself wiser than Jesus. "He is the Way, the Truth and the Life," continued Cardinal Arinze.

Whoever receives Communion and is not in a state of sanctifying grace, thus commits another sin. In this way, no one can come closer to God, reminds Arinze. Communion for divorced-and-remarried is a rejection of Divine law: Cardinal Arinze

The Results of the Family Synod: Cardinal Kasper "I am very pleased"

I'm very pleased...
.
(Rome) Cardinal Walter Kasper is "very pleased"  about the result of the Synod, although Communion for the divorced and remarried wasn't mentioned once. "When the result of the Synod is agreed to by Kasper, then it is time to be worried," says Secretum meum mihi.
The Italian daily,  Il Giornaleve Interviewed the German Cardinal with the title: "Hosts for Divorced, If Penitent"  And the subtitle: "The prelate  talks about the closing of the Synod as though his progressive line had succeeded." The newspaper had cited Kasper with the words: "I am very pleased and am overjoyed by the Synods successful work. The closing report is a good text, and we only await the Pope's decision.“
Il Giornale: Your Eminence, in the Synod your line has predominated, that is to say, the possibility to allow  remarried divorcees to communion through an individual assessment. How do you rate the discussion of the Synod Fathers on this subject?
Kasper: I am pleased to open the door to the possibility of the divorced and remarried to  communion.  There is a certain opening, but you do not even talk about the consequences. Now everything is in the hands of the pope, who decides. The Synod has made recommendations. There has been an opening, but the matter is still not completely resolved and needs to be further deepened.
Il Giornale: If it is, the priest stands there to decide on a case by case basis, what is meant by that?
Kasper: There needs to some conditions given for admition to the sacrament of the Eucharist. First, the assessment of whether everything possible has been done possible to save the first marriage; then that there is a way of repentance for the couple. Then there must be a path of reflection and accompaniment, because divorce is a disaster and leaves traumatic experiences. It takes time to overcome the wounds of separation.
Il Giornale: But running such an opening does not risk confirming divorce?
Kasper: Yes, the doors are not opened for divorce. The pastor must do everything possible to reconcile the couple. Divorce is never a pleasant thing and is a sad moment, especially for the children of the couple.
Il Giornale: There were elements of  "disorder": The Coming out of Monsignor Charamsa who professed to be gay, have the letter of the 13 cardinals,  who have criticized the methods of the Synod work, the dissemination of the message through QN, the pope's  benign brain tumor. Has all the Synod work destabilized?
Kasper: The Synod can not  be manipulated. We have gone further in our work and in accordance with a fixed agenda, without  having us be influenced or manipulated by external factors.
Il Giornale:  the Synod, however,  has not come to an agreement about homosexual relationships.
Kasper: The theme of the Synod was the family and homosexuals are not the family.  We have not dealt with the subject of homosexual partnerships, but only with the presence of persons with homosexual tendencies within a family. The Church must help with these situations, one must help, not  discriminate.
Il Giornale: What do you now expect from the Pope?
Kasper: I hope that the Holy Father has written a compelling text that emphasizes the joy of Christian marriage, which is the most important thing. The indissolubility of marriage is not up for discussion, but there is no contrast between mercy and truth of the Gospel.
Il Giornale: When can we expect Francis' decision?
Cardinal Kasper: It takes time, it is not a document that you do from one day to the next. The final report of the Synod is a foundation for the Pope. I hope that the text of the Pope comes during the Year of Mercy. That would be a nice sign.
Secretum meum mihi adds:  They were still worried about the result? Now you have a reason to be there.

Evil Thomas Reese Celebrates the Ambiguity of the Synod -- "...like Vatican II"

Edit: this aberrosexual enabler is beside himself with glee.

[National Catholic Reporter] think that the truth is that Communion was not mentioned because that was the only way the paragraphs could get a two-thirds majority. Like the Second Vatican Council, the synod achieved consensus through ambiguity. This means that they are leaving Pope Francis free to do whatever he thinks best.

Hats off to the drafting committee that found exactly the right language to achieve consensus even if it does not give a definitive answer to our questions.

Josh McElwee also reports that the document touches on artificial contraception, quoting Pope Paul VI’s 1968 encyclical Humanae Vitae that prohibited the practice. But the Synod document also calls for a "consensual dialog" between spouses when considering children.

An Analysis of the Synod

Edit: from Father Zuhlsdorf's blog. Seems to me we've been living with an unacceptable praxis which assumes unacceptable doctrine, tolerated by very powerful churchmen,
for centuries. Faithful Catholics somehow survived evil prelates like Cardinal Gibbons and Archbishop Ireland, and they will certainly survive Kasper and his lackies.

UPDATE: 26 Oct 11:00 AM ROME (CET)
From a different friend who is a canonist.  I’ll leave his name out of this for now:
What Did The Synod Really Say? Some analysis of the Final Report.
“[IF] If the Pope decides to publish this section of the Final Report in whatever document he issues, and if he, too, leaves out that section of FC 84 that bars civilly divorced and remarried from Communion, then this section will become magisterial teaching. [Get it?] Will that mean that the civilly divorced and remarried can be admitted to Holy Communion without promising to live “as brother and sister”? In my view, …without the benefit of much time for reflection, it could very well mean that. IN OTHER WORDS the Kasper Proposal has come into the Final Report through the back door.”
Concedo: you could give a Kasperian interpretation of this document.
Distinguo: a Kasperian interpretation of this document does not mean that the document itself supports the Kasper Proposal.
Of course Cardinal Kasper also interprets the Scriptures in an “interesting” way to support his thesis.
That does not mean that Scriptures support the Kasper Proposal.
And a  Kasperian interpretation of this document cannot become a “Magisterial” teaching when the Kasper Proposal is clearly not guided by the Holy Spirit – because
1.       It would be in contradiction to the Teaching of Christ on the Indissolubility of Marriage.
2.       It would be in contradiction to the Teaching of the Council of Trent on the Indissolubility of Marriage.
3.       It would be in contradiction to the Teaching of St John Paul II on the Indissolubility of Marriage.
4.       It would be in contradiction to Sacred Tradition on the Indissolubility of Marriage.
The Pope cannot make a Magisterial declaration that is clearly false. He cannot solemnly define that 1 + 1 + 3.  But that is what he is trying to do. It is totally illogical and crazy.
He would be very unwise to plunge half the Church into schism.
I think even he realises this – which is why he threw his toys out of the pram again the other day.
Hopefully that the letter of the 13 Cardinals will have given him a wake-up call.
If Pope Francis does issue false doctrine, please God the next Pope will revoke the false teaching.
I think that the whole of this document needs a Hermeneutic of Continuity – especially as it claims to be building on the Magisterium of Vatican II, Paul VI, John Paul II & Benedict XVI.
And furthermore in Chapter II the second section is entitled “Indissolubilita e fecondita dell’unione sponsale” begins “I’irrevocabile fedelta di Dio all’alleanza e il fondamento dell’indisolubilita del matrimonio.” (48)
A pity Ed Peters was not part of the Synod to introduce some logic.  [Amen.]

Synod: Conservatives Win

Edit: I think the conservatives were better organized this time, but ultimately, all of the things which the Kasperians clamoired for have been done for years by dissident parishes and evil places like, say, Collegeville. Yet it still has to be said that they at least didn't give the appearance of consensus like they have in the past when they host these teachin consensus building events where opposing groups and individuals are identified and marginalized, while the evil people, in this case the Kasperians, are made to look like the sensible party.

[Damian Thompson, Spectator] This afternoon the Vatican Synod on the Family amended and approved the final document summing up three weeks of chaotic and sometimes poisonous debate – much of it focussing on whether divorced and remarried people should be allowed to receive communion.

The majority view of the Synod Fathers is that they don’t want the rules changed. They especially don’t want one rule to apply in, say, Germany and another in Tanzania. Pope Francis has just given a cautiously worded (but also, alas, rather waffly) address in which he acknowledges as much:

… we have also seen that what seems normal for a bishop on one continent, is considered strange and almost scandalous for a bishop from another; what is considered a violation of a right in one society is an evident and inviolable rule in another; what for some is freedom of conscience is for others simply confusion.

Significantly, the Fathers didn’t back a ‘solution’ suggested by liberal cardinals, whereby divorced and remarried Catholics could consult their consciences and their confessors over whether they should follow the rules.

The Synod Has Been a Sham -- Faithful Catholic Leaders Should Walk Out

Edit: it's not going to happen but it's worth a try. Here's a piece by Steve Skojec exhorting faithful Catholic clergy to walk out.

[Washington Post] Over the past three weeks, Catholic Church leaders from around the world have gathered for the Ordinary Synod of the Family in Rome, the second in a two-part session that began in October 2014.

The meeting was a perfect opportunity for bishops to discuss how to strengthen the family in the midst of serious challenges — issues such as contraception, abortion and chastity in a sexually licentious culture. Instead, it has become mired in debates over long-settled teaching on sexual mores, with agendas advanced by progressive and controversial figures invited by Pope Francis himself. What we’re left with is nothing less than a battle for the soul of Catholicism.

The church’s teaching on marriage has always been that it is indissoluble. As we read in Matthew 19:6, “so they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.” While annulments can be granted, those who divorce then remarry are living in de facto adulterous relationships, according to the church. This violation of the sixth commandment is, according to Catholic belief, a serious sin. It does (and should) preclude such individuals from receiving the body of Christ until they repent.

Synod: "Overwhelming Majority Are Against Communion for the Remarried Divorced"

(Rome) Matteo Matzuzzi, the Vatican expert of the daily newspaper Il Foglio wrote to 14:52 on Twitter: "++ Overwhelming majority against Communion for remarried divorcees, according to sources in the Synod ++"
Just a few minutes earlier Sebastien Maillard, the Vatican expert of the daily newspaper La Croix, had tweeted the French Bishops' Conference:
"Overwhelming majority against the Communion for remarried divorcees, according to observers in the Synod Hall"
In another Tweet Matzuzzi wrote at 3 o'clock: "In the end everything is a matter of numbers. One begins to  count  ... "
Voters during the Synod as they also took place in the past year,  were not provided  for by Pope Francis for this Synod. That was a point which the thirteen Synodal Cardinals criticized  in their complaint letter to the Pope. The intermediate votes before the final vote on the Relatio finalis at the end of the Synod serve an orientation of the Synod, to which direction to go to see the positions on an issue.
Should the vote be confirmed, this would mean that the Synod Fathers were able to free themselves from the Synod Director. Today's vote was all just an orientation that, however, anticipates the final vote on  the topic. The final vote is scheduled for next Saturday, 24 October.
It has long been  unclear how the final vote will be held. The Cardinals complaining expressed concern that the Pope let the Synod vote only in the block, and not on the individual sections. The Synod General, Cardinal Baldisseri assured Cardinal Pell last week, that the paragraph will be voted on by paragraph. Still, there is no certainty as of yet.
Overall, there is a lack of clarity in the air, as to whether the Synod will end at all. It was the closest confidants of the Pope,  Cardinals Baldisseri and Tagle, who wished for ambiguity. Will the Relatio finalis be published? Will there be a Post-Synodal Letter? The speech of Pope Francis last Saturday at the ceremony marking the 50th anniversary of the introduction of the Synod of Bishops, and an interview published yesterday of Cardinal Walter Kasper certainly provides for new uncertainty.
Cardinal Kasper indicated that a Post-synodal letter may be long in coming, but it should announce the admission of remarried divorcees to Communion in a statement by the Pope. Since Kasper  is one of the closest confidants of the pope in the matter, his statement could be less of an invitation to the pope, and rather more of  an announcement of what the pope has intended all along. At least this option can not be ruled out  in view of the recent course of the Synod.
The same applies to the Pope's appeal of wanting to decentralize the Church. Roberto de Mattei drew attention to the fact that decentralization could serve as a "way out" of the impasse in which the progressive camp sits when the Synod majority pronouncess itself against "new Mercy." Then, instead of the synodality being stressed,  decentralization would be entered into. In other words, Africa could then retain the Catholic teaching on marriage, while the western episcopal conferences practice a liberal openness?

President of Polish Bishops' Conference Sounds the Alarm

Stanisław Gądecki, Archbishop of Posen and President of the Polish Bishops' Conference has spoken of an attack against Catholic teaching on marriage and sexuality on October 17, 2015 in the Synod Hall.

Some said that they do not wish to change doctrine, but that is indeed exactly what they are trying to do.

The proposal for a change in the order of the sacraments is in reality an attempt to change the doctrine by the back door.

The intervention of the Archbishop is of great significance, because these attacks had been carefully planned afore time. Additionally the polish delegates can count on the support of other East European synod participants.

The proposal of the German delegation, to give more autonomy to the "local churches" (what's meant are Bishops' Conferences), was sharply criticized by Cardinal Raymond Burke for  LifesitenewsKirche. The Church must declare the truth and this is not dependent upon the time and place, says the Cardinal, who is not a Synod Father.

In view of the desolate situation of German Catholicismleads directly to the formation of national churches.

Changes in the teaching on marriage and the new role of the "local churches" are presently the most heatedly debated themes in the synod. Both poles in the synod --  conservatives and progressives -- are becoming increasingly augmented, as they attempt to promote their viewpoints.

Minnesota Bible Scholar Calls for Resistance to Synod

Edit: Father Echert is the pastor of the parish of St. Augustine's in South Saint Paul, saying the Immemorial Mass of All Ages and doing the work of a pastor.

He has taken a courageous stand here, from the Remnant:
