40 Years of Hand Communion in Spain -- "An Unhappy Anniversary in Spain"

Communion on the Tongue: Since the introduction of
hand Communion forty years ago in Spain -- an "unfortunate anniversary"

(Madrid) 40 years ago, Communion in the hand was allowed in Spain on March 18, 1976, the Secretariat of the Spanish Bishops' Conference published in a recent press statement. It was explained that the Holy See, at that time ruled by Pope Paul VI., had upheld a petition by the Episcopal Conference. The Episcopal Conference granted the option, in addition to the ordinary form of receiving  Communion, kneeling on the tongue, to allow Communion in the hand in Spain.

They said:
"The Holy See granted the practice of Communion in the hand in Spain by decree of the Sacred Congregation for the Sacraments and Divine Worship, adopted on 12 February 1976. The permission was at the request of His Eminence Cardinal Vincente Enrique y Tarancon, Archbishop of Madrid and President of the Spanish Episcopal Conference, where, who by a letter of 23 January in accordance with the XXIII Plenary Assembly of the Spanish Bishops' Conference, which reached an agreement in a meeting which took place from December 15th to the 20th  in Los Negrales,  addressed the Sacred Congregation for the Sacraments and Divine Worship.

The  permission was made in accordance with the standards of the letter of the Sacred Congregation of the President of the Episcopal Conferences, the preamble of which states that each bishop may, at his wisdom and his conscience, allow this kind of Communion in his diocese.'
The authorization does not displace the practice of receiving Holy Communion on the tongue, but also leads to the existence of a new type. In future, the faithful going to Communion may decide to receive Communion on the tongue, as in the past, or on the hand."
Furthermore,  the Episcopal Conference stressed that Pope Paul VI. with the instruction Memoriale Domini stipulated about the kinds of Communion of 28 May 1969 that the "centuries-old custom"  of receiving Communion on the tongue is not changed. "At the same time he granted the episcopal conferences the opportunity to consider whether it was appropriate, due to some special circumstances, in addition, to offer Communion in the hand," said the Spanish Episcopal Conference, which made use of this "opportunity" in 1976.
"An unhappy anniversary for Spain," wrote Secreteum meum mihi, referring to the crisis of faith, which was accompanied by the introduction of Communion in the hand. Unlike Pope Paul VI's stipulation,  there was a systematic suppression of receiving Communion while kneeling on the tongue. For decades, the vast majority of all first communicants were forced to receive Communion in the hand. Only rarely is the ordinary form of the Communion reception, Communion on the tongue, ever mentioned. Hand Communion could be abolished at any time, or even prohibited, but not Communion on the tongue. In fact, however, the opposite impression has reigned in recent decades.

Queen Sophia during Communion, 2010 in Barcelona

Sophia Margarita Victoria Friederika of the House of Glücksburg and Hannover, Duchess of Brunswick-Lüneburg, Princess of Greece and Denmark, known by Spaniards as Sophia of Greece for short, since 1975 Queen of Spain - whose title she retained even after the abdication of her husband King Juan Carlos I  -, forced Communion in the hand on 7 November 2010 from Pope Benedict XVI, although this practice was abolished at Papal Masses in 2008.  At Holy Mass in the Church of Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, a kneeler was erected to receive Holy Communion kneeling and on the tongue for the faithful. The Queen was obviously of a different sensitivity than the Pope. The behavior of a queen should not only draw attention in the national media, she should be an exemplary figure as a role model. It's all the more amazing because of the origin of the queen. Before her marriage to the inheritor of the Spanish throne,  her family belonged to the Greek Orthodox Church, who only know  Communion on the tongue.
The number of believers who desire Communion on the tongue has increased again in the past year. It's not desired everywhere. In some places Communion is denied, or the faithful will be snapped at by priests, as so happened even at the Requiem Mass of Bishop Kurt Krenn in February 2014 in the Cathedral of St. Pölten.
Believers who kneel for Communion may disrupt a smooth reception of Communion and waste time, they say. The offering and reception of the Body of Christ on the tongue is considered incidental and  a waste of time, so say critics that not only hold the "meal-theology" in the "spirit of the Council" which led not only served toward the desacralization of Communion, but has added to the harm of belief in real presence.
Inspired by the example of Benedict XVI. a Spanish priest broke the taboo on Communion and refuted the platitude that Communion kneeling   was "obsolete" and interested "no one" any more. He established an equality between the two forms of the reception of Communion in his parish. Here the faithful lined up in two lines, one for Communion in the hand, and for the other line, a communion rail. He explained to the faithful his plan. He ask each to chose according to his sensibility for the corresponding line. Within a short time it was found that more than half of the visitors on Sunday Masses preferred the ordinary posture, kneeling and receiving Communion on the tongue. There was no sign of this half taking this option in previous years. During weekday Masses almost all receive Communion on the tongue.

Ban on Calvinist Hand Communion -- South American Diocese Publishes Decree

Ban on Hand Communion by the Bishop of Oruro
Edit: just one more brief intrusion.  Adalante de Fe was an initiative begun in part by the scorned, faithful and long-suffering of Bishop Rogelio Livieres Plano of Ciudad del Este, whose meritorious  work for the salvation  of souls will continue.

(La Paz) On August 16, 2015  Bishop Krzysztof (Cristobal) Bialasik SVD of Oruro in Bolivia, gave published the prohibition of hand communion in his diocese. Only communion on the tongue is permitted.   Bishop Bialasik is responding to incidents where consecrated Hosts were received in hand Communion, and then taken away. It was "unbearable", said the Bishop,  that one does not know what happened to the body of Christ.
On January 6, 2016, Bishop Bialasik has now signed the appropriate canonical decree by which the prohibition Communion in the hand was formalized. Adelante la Fe published the "Decree for the Reception of Holy Communion on the Tongue."
The bishop  refers in this to the current ecclesiastical rules.  It nowhere provides that Communion in the hand is the proper manner of the reception of Holy Communion. According to teaching and canon law, oral Communion is the only proper form with which to receive the body of Christ. Hand Communion is something the bishop allowed "only as an indult" which can be granted on a case by case basis in an Episcopal Conference if it wishes. The responsibility lies solely with the competent diocesan bishop. Bishop Bialasik refers to the instruction Redemptoris Sacramentum of the Roman Congregation for Divine Worship of 1999, which expressly bans hand Communion identifying issues present, "when the danger of profanation."

Worthy reception, awareness of the real presence of Christ, prevent profanation

Decree: oral Communion instead Hand Communion

The Bishop of Oruro offered three reasons in the decree  pronounced by him banning Communion in the hand on August 16th: "to promote the worthy reception of the Eucharist", "to strengthen the faith in the Real Presence of Jesus Christ" and "avoid the profanation of the body of Christ."
The crucial point of the decree reads:
"We reaffirm for the Diocese of Oruro the obligation to abide by the universal law of the Church to receive Communion in the mouth, as the indult, to receive communion in the hand, does not apply."
The decree was published in the February issue of the Official Journal of the diocese.
Bishop Cristobal (Krzysztof) Bialasik was born in Zbąszynek (Neu-Bentschen) in 1958 and is a Divine Word Missionary (Steyler Missionar). In 1985 he was ordained a priest by Archbishop Henryk Cardinal Gulbinowicz from Wroclaw. Pope Benedict XVI. appointed him in 2005 as Bishop of Oruro. In 2014 the highest statue in the world was inaugurated (without base) in his diocese. It is based on the miraculous image of Our Lady of Candelaria del Socavón of Oruro.
The Diocese of Oruro was established in 1924 by Pope Pius XI.  and is suffragan of the Archdiocese of Cochabamba.  It is 53,000 kilometers, larger than Lower Saxony [a little smaller in size than New York State], and has about 440,000 Catholics, 42 priests and 42 parishes.

Bishop of de Oruro Prohibits Communion in the Hand in His Diocese

Edit: here's a google translation with some editing.  Adalantela Fe is the website which the late Bishop Livieres continued his important work after being thrown out of his diocese for no substantial reason.

[Adalantela Fe] Recently the Bishop of the Diocese of Oruro, Bolivia, Monsignor Cristobal Bialasik, in his usual Sunday celebration of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass this Sunday August 16, has said that in the diocesan Church entrusted to him, he will not continue to give the consecrated Host -- Body of the Lord -- in the hands of the faithful (i.e., those who are not priests).

The prelate rightly undermines the administration of the Eucharist in this way, as he himself said, it has been noticed lately that some people do not consume the Host upon receipt, and want to carry it out of the church for purposes unknown.

The jealous priests of old wanted to be sure that those who received the Host were known parishioners, to avoid profanity, as there were Jews and members of other groups and ideologies who attended Masses to profane the Body of Jesus, throwing Him to the floor, spitting and trampling on Him.

As we are reminded by Msgr. Athanasius Schneider, the practice we now know of Communion in the hand was born in the seventeenth century among the Calvinists, who did not believe in the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist. "Not even Luther would have done it," said the bishop, "In fact, until relatively recently, Lutherans were kneeling communicants and on the tongue, and even today some do this still in Scandinavia".

St. Thomas Aquinas, in his great Summa Theologica, confirms and explains:

"The administration of the Body of Christ is for the priest for three reasons.

"First, because he consecrates in the person of Christ. But as Christ consecrated His Body at the (Last) Supper, so also He gave it to others to be shared with them. Accordingly, as the consecration of the Body of Christ is for the priest, also its distribution corresponds to him.

"Second, because the priest is the appointed intermediary between God and the people, therefore it corresponds to him to offer the people's gifts to God. Thus it is for the people he distributes the consecrated gifts.

"Third, because of reverence for this Sacrament, nothing touches it but what is consecrated as the corporal and the chalice are consecrated, and likewise the priest's hands touch this sacrament. Therefore, it is not lawful for anyone else to touch it except from necessity, for instance if it had fallen on the ground or also some other emergency." 1

Because of the loss of the sense of sin, warned by Pope Pius XII, today many faithful have lost faith in the Eucharist, in which Jesus is present with his Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity as well, as communicants receive Holy Communion and attend Mass, it is clear what degree of faith there is in the Real Presence.

The most serious desecrations are accomplished by the administration or reception of the sacraments, or in the case of the Holy Eucharist, by debasing it in celebration, that is in mortal sin, hence a deliberate and remarkable irreverence towards the celebration of the Holy Eucharist is the worst sacrilege.

I well remember one Sunday in Chile, where a pastoral worker was visiting a rural parish. Once in town, we attended Mass. The pastor -- a good and holy priest -- had a visible disability that certainly not let him move. At the time of communion, the nun who was acting minister of communion held the chalice in one hand, while in the other she began to administer them. In approach to receive the Body of the Lord, it seemed, he started the Hosts, and in doing so not so small fragments fell to the floor, which the religious seemed not to notice. After the Mass, two outsiders, without asking permission, quickly went to kneel before the many visible pieces scattered, and moistening their fingers consumed them.

Similar events are often repeated and in many countries there have been groups of lay people whose sole responsibility is to collect fragments of the consecrated Hosts that have fallen after giving communion in the hand. 2

Too numerous to mention are all the desecrations against Jesus in the Eucharist, but let us note the following:

Receive Communion with serious sins on the soul, without having confessed before a priest.

Eucharist is received in a posture of sitting and standing.

After Holy Communion few remain in intimate worship of Jesus and almost all leave immediately after Mass.

During Communion and after they then they sit, and are often talking.

The songs, manner of dress, talk and general behavior of the people, does not differ much from what happens in other meetings.

Chants and instruments used, clapping hands, give the Mass a sense of carnival more than a religious function.

The forgetfulness of Jesus present in the Tabernacle by the faithful and even many consecrated persons, is almost complete.

The Prince of Theology states: "Both the wicked and the good eat this celestial food, but with ends how opposite. Here is life and there is death the same yet issuing to each in difference infinite." 3

Back to Calvinist Communion in the Hand at Papal Masses -- Priest’s choice?

(Rome) After several of Pope Francis' celebrated solemn high Masses, it is obvious that the canonical “extraordinary form” of Communion in the hand is being practiced again in a big way in papal Masses. And according to the personal discretion of every priest.

Pope Benedict XVI. had only given Holy Communion kneeling and on the tongue to the faithful shortly after he became Pope (except Despite some cases like the Queen of Spain). Through the rediscovery of traditional practice, the reverence for the Eucharist should be strengthened to counteract deformation by the erroneous understanding in the minds of believers of a mere meal with common bread consumption.

Newly appointed in 2007, the papal master of ceremonies, Guido Marini said in June 2008, in an interview with the Osservatore Romano he explained that in future papal Masses, Communion on the tongue will prevail in a kneeling posture. This now no longer seems to be the case.

Canon law has always prescribed that Communion is received kneeling on the tongue as the actual form of Communion reception. With the liturgical reform after the Second Vatican Council, the bishops' conferences were granted the right to allow additional and valid exemption of forms for their area of responsibility. From the exception, however, was a rule that made the actual exception to the rule immediately. In Germany, First Communion is almost everywhere taught everywhere since the 70s exclusively Communion in the hand. Of Communion on the tongue or even kneeling Communion in this large-scale re-education program in fact there is no more talk.

During dozens of scheduled Papal Masses, priests were instructed under Pope Benedict XVI. from 2008 to give the consecrated host only on the tongue. With few exceptions, the traditional practice was quickly put into effect again.

Since the inauguration of Pope Francis any uniformity has been lost. The Pope gives the deacons Communion, while it is received kneeling on the tongue. As the head of the Church, however, he gives no Communion to the faithful, as Pope Benedict XVI's example is minimized. Of the scheduled priests a large number only give Communion on the tongue. However, just as many priests give again Communion in the hand according to the Pre-Benedictine exception, when a communicant holds out their hands. A general practice, they know from most the parishes to which they were only taught by priests. Instructions for the priests as under Benedict XVI. is apparently no more. The form of Communion by the priest seems to be merely a option.

Communion in the Hand is a Calvinist Innovation

Edit: a brief video featuring John Paul II's extreme displeasure at the practice, which he only begrudgingly agreed to to appease his bishops.  Say what you will, it's still quite an endorsement.

Bishop Schneider Says: Communion in the Hand is a Great Wound in the Church

A reform of the Church is advanced by an end to Communion in the hand and supper tables.  Proceedings and Old Liberal committees will play a completely subordinate role.
Auxiliary Bishop Schneider
on der Homepage of the
Shrine of Maria Vesperbild.

(kreuz.net)  "The more committees, the more proceedings, the more fear of public opinion and the politically correct, the less there will be real reforms in the Church."

This is what Auxiliary Bishop Athanasius Schneider from Astana in Kazakhstan said on Pentecost Sunday at the Swabian pilgrimage Maria Vesperbild.

For Msgr Schneider it is "more than clear that the Church has experienced a great crisis."

Communion is Handed out Like Bread

The crisis  shows itself in its most gripping in the declining Liturgy, for the prelate:  "Today's manner of receiving Communion spread throughout the world is a great wound."

The body of Christ has been received "without recognizable sacral gestures of worship".

Hand communion leaves one with the impression as if one is taking a regular meal, which "one puts in ones' own mouth".

The Bible gives a different example of reverence

Msgr Schneider recalled that the angel and prophets in Holy Scripture knelt before Jesus Christ:

"How great is the contrast between  today's widely spread form of handcommunion with the minimalistic signs of reverence on the one side and the glorious examples in Holy Scripture and the examples of Catholics frm the past two thousand years, and  also the edifying examples of our own associates, parents, grandparents on the other side."

The example of the Pope

Msgr Schneider recalled then that Pope Benedict XVI has been distributing Holy Communion in the mouth since Corpus Christi of 2008 to the faithful on their knees:

"A true Catholic, and even more a Catholic Bishop, can not ignore the Pope's  gestures."

That would be a true renewal

For the Auxiliary Bishop it would be a poignant sign of Faith if all the Masses world-wide "were brought back to clear signs of reverence, silence, the holiness of the music".

He criticized the supper table very carefully:  priests and people should interiorly and exteriorly look together upon Christ -- he said.

All faithful should "receive the body of Christ self-evidently in the state of sanctifying grace, having gone too confession, and  to receive it directly in the mouth with the piety of a child."

In this Msgr Schneider sees "powerful sings of a true renewal in the Church".

In such Masses a God fearing man should fall on his knees and say:  "Verily,  God is among you"  [1Cor 14 24-25]

A Church of Believers -- not of Church-tax payers

The Auxiliary Bishop explained in his sermon an example of reform from Kazakhstan.

In the city of Karaganda the Catholics built one Church every 35 years under the Communists.

The authorities allowed only a lowly, utilitarian building without towers or a cross.

For two years the faithful -- also the elderly and the children --- were occupied with the building.

They dug even in the earth, in order to put the church deeper in order to allow for a larger interior space.

Without Discussions or Commissions

After the completion of construction there was no Bishop far and wide who could have blessed the church.

Actually the parish priest -- he was called Pater Alexander Chira by everyone -- promised the faithful that God would send a Bishop.

On the day of the blessing he appeared himself with a mitre and shepherd's staff in the church.  He was a secret Bishop.

According to a woman who witnessed the event, there were even more tears flowing than holy water.

The church blessing is an example for Msgr Schneider "of true reform of the Church without a lot of commissions and discussions."

Hand Communion Causes Loss of Faith

That Can't be Denied

Hand Communion is a Calvinist Invention
© Catholic Westminster, Flickr, CC
Hand Communion promotes the erroneous assertion that the Host is a precious little piece of bread,  that one can simply snap up. -kreuz.net

(kreuz.net) Hand Communion could not be banned like a revolution.

This is what Msgr. Schneider (50) of Astana in Kazakhstan for the website 'gloria.tv' on the end of October.

Msgr Schneider is a sharp critic of hand Communion.

He recommends that the faithful can be led to kneeling Communion on the tongue with much patience and catechesis.

The Calvinist Form Leads to Calvinist Content

Msgr Schneider argued psychologically against the Calvinist practice of hand communion stemming from the sixteenth century.

One takes ordinarily with one's fingers what one wants in a commonplace way.

On the other hand, kneeling Communion on the tongue is a "complete gesture of sacrality, which expresses  the sublime."

No mature person goes to a knee, to receive a meal.

Hand Communion promotes an erroneous understanding that the Host "is more bread, that one can take."

Above all children may no longer experience, because of the daily form of hand Communion, the sublimity and greatness of Holy Communion.

That Wasn't Hand Communion

Hand Communion has let the belief in real presence and in the transubstantiation of the bread disappear.

The traditional form of the Mass impresses this belief much better than in the New Eucharistic Celebration.

Msgr Schneider stressed that the ancient form of the reception of Communion was on the tongue.

The faithful merely received the Host on their hands.

BUT:  They bent themselves down from below, in order to take the Communion with their tongue.

The transition to direct distribution of Communion in the mouth in the 6th and 7th centuries is something that was a logical consequence of a deepening Eucharistic understanding, according to Bishop Schneider.

Bishop Schneider: Hand Communion Must Go

It is a legend that hand communion goes back to the first century.  It comes much more from the devilish schismatic of Geneva, John Calvin. -kreuz.net

(kreuz.net) The current form of hand communion stems from the Calvinists.

This is what Auxiliary Bishop Athanasius Schneider (50) of Astana in Kazakhstan said at the end of October for the videosite 'gloria.tv'.

"That was an abuse"

Calvinist self-communion was introduced in the 1960s by decadent Catholic Communities in the Netherlands.

This step happened in disobedience to ecclesiastical rules -- Msgr Schneider stressed:  "That was an abuse and the Holy See forbid it in the 1960s."

Finally Paul VI († 1978) addressed hand communion in the Document 'Memoriale Domini' in May 1969 with a "heavy heart":

"In this document the Church said that this form is an exception and that kneeling Communion would remain the rule."

At hand communion the people would take the Host with their fingers and put it in their mouths themselves:  "this particular gesture has never taken place in the history of the Church, never."

It was a kind of self communion.

The Lutherans adapted themselves to the Catholics

Msgr Schneider recalled the Episcopal Synod of October 2005 on the Eucharist.

During a recess Msgr Schneider asked an attending Norwegian Lutheran "Bishop" how his community gave  the Lord's Supper.

The Lutheran answered that the Norwegian State Church had, up until about ten years ago, been giving supper only kneeling and on the tongue. Yet the influence of decadent Roman Catholics has caused hand communion to be introduced.

Liturgical Minimalism

The Auxiliary Bishop asks that hand communion be prayed and worked against:

"We must deeply desire that this form of current hand communion, which has never been practiced in the Church, be abolished"  -- he said with feeling.

Handcommunion is a minimal form of  reverence.  On the contrary, the Church ought never to be satisfied with minimalism.

Particles of Host on the floor

Msgr Schneider warned that giving hand communion will cause many particles to be lost.

The Hosts are often flaky.

The particles could also adhere to the fingers or remain on the
palm.  They would fall on the ground and be trampled.

In Kazakhstan, according to the Auxiliary Bishop, Communion is only given kneeling and on the tongue.

"It so often happens to me and also to other priests, that there are a few particles on the paten."

Without Communion patens, these particles would fall on the floor or in the clothing of the people.

Msgr Schneider also warned that hand communion simplifies the theft of Hosts as well.

Communion in the Hand Destroys Piety: Bishop Athansius Schneider

Edit: Continued from a previous article that not even Luther would have given Communion in the Hand.
A Calvinist Invention

Every priest can see that parts of the Host will remain on the hands of the faithful, and parts will fall to the ground to be trampled.

(kreuz.net) Communion on the tongue is a fruit of piety and grown naturally.

Auxiliary Bishop Athanasius Schneider (50) said this for the radio station, 'Radio Maria Südtirol' on the 19th of July.

The current form of Communion in thee hand comes, on the contrary, to a dishonoring of the Sacrament of the Altar.

It was introduced with the sweep of a hand and has damaged piety.

How the Deviltry Began

Auxiliary Bishop Schneider explains how Communion in the Hand was introduced in a spirit of disobedience during the 60s of the last century.

In the Netherlands, Belgium and Northern Germany it was insisted suddenly that hand communion came down from the time of the Church Fathers:

"Unfortunately this is something the Bishops at the time had invented."

After the Second Vatican council Paul VI († 1978) expressly forbid Communion in the Hand.

But the Bishops in the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Austria and Germany put pressure on the Pope.

They insisted that it was no longer possible to prescribe the wild practice.

Whereupon in 1968 the Pope addressed all Bishops regarding Communion in the Hand.

Almost two thirds of the world Episcopate opposed the sacrilege.

The majority of the Bishops warned that the particles of the consecrated Hosts would fall on the floor and that sacrality would by destroyed by this practiced.

But the propagandists of Hand Communion were not appeased.

Thereupon Paul VI allowed in May of 1969 in the document 'Memoriale Domini' to allow Hand Communion where it had already been illegally practiced.

The Communion on the Tongue was designated as the "Rule".

The Abuse is the Rule

Msgr Schndeider has noticed that things have been turned upside down.

Communion on the Tongue is the exception and Communion in the Hand is the rule.

The Auxiliary Bishop excoriates that the giving of Communion will always involve particles remaining on the fingers.

Additionally, there is at least the danger that the Host could be stolen.

Hand Communion may only be suppressed from on high

Msgr Schneider encourages Bishops and Priests to promote Communion on the Tongue.

That the Holy Father himself only gives Communion kneeling on the tongue, serves as an example for us.

The Bishops must draw their own conclusions from this:

"If the Pope does it, it is also a sign for me as a Bishop to act in the same way"

Auxiliary Bishop Schneider believes that the faithful, who love the Church and the Mass, would readily embrace Communion on the Tongue.

Communion Rails Must be Present

The Auxiliary Bishop recommends setting up Communion rails again.

That is especially helpful for older persons, who would be supported when they knelt.

They would otherwise be at a disadvantage, when there is a possibility to receive kneeling.

The faithful could --says the Auxiliary Bishop -- even stay at the Communion rail. Then no one can be discriminated against.

The introduction of Communion rails are "logical and just".

The Bishop believes that with time, the majority will sink to their knees for the overpowering moment of Communion.

You take Communion Yourself and Stick it in the Mouth

Finally, he stresses that Communion in the Hand can be worthily received.

But it recalls the daily grind, where "I can take it myself and put it in my own mouth."

That diminishes sacrality.

Auxiliary Bishop Says Communion In the Hand is a Calvinist Novelty

Not Even Martin Luther Would Have Done It

In the last century the Old Liberal Bishops promoted hand Communion.  They used a historical lie toward this end.

Auxiliary Bishop Athanasius Schneider

(kreuz.net)Present day Communion in the Hand has no roots in the early Church.

This was stressed by Auxiliary Bishop Athanasius Schneider (50) of Astana in Kazakhstan on the 19th on the radio station 'Radio Maria Südtirol'

Msgr Schneider is a Patristic expert.

Hand Communion was contrived "all new" from the Second Vatican Council -- the Auxiliary Bishop firmly said.

The antique Church had practiced a completely different form for the reception of Communion.

In that period the hand in which Communion was received was purified before and after.

Additionally, the faithful would take the Body of the Lord from their hand in a disposition of prayer with his tongue:

"If anything it was more of an oral reception of Communion than in the hand".

After Communion, the communicant had to lick their hands with their tongues, so that even the smallest particle should not be lost.

A Deacon supervised the purification.

The Auxiliary Bishop cotinued: "This concern and care stands in direct opposition to indifference and carelessness with which so called Communion in the hand is dispensed."

Women never held Communion simply on the flat of the hand.

They spread a white cloth, a manner of corporal over their hand.

Then, they would receive Communion directly to their mouth from the linen cloth.

"That is a tremendous contrast to the present form of Communion in the hand" -- insisted Msgr Schneider.

The ancient faithful never took Communion with their fingers: "the gesture of hand Communion was completely unknown in the Church."

The Antique Form of Giving Communion Was Impractical in the Final Analysis

In the course of the centuries the Church developed a form of giving Communion which "surely came from the Holy Ghost".

Msgr Schneider explained that the Eastern Church had already completed this step by the 5th Century, the West somewhat later.

The transition took place worldwide, organically, instinctively and peacefully.

The Auxiliary Bishop reports that Pope Gregory the Great († 604), gave Communion in on the tongue.

French and Spanish Synods of the 8th and 9th Centuries sanctioned against touching the Host with excommunication:

"If a Synod can make such a strict threat, this form will be forbidden in a short time."

Communion in the Hand Comes from the Calvinists

According to the Auxiliary Bishop, communion in the hand comes from the Dutch Calvinists of the 17th Century.

Calvinism denies the real presence of Christ in the Host.

One such communion in the hand wasn't even practiced by the Lutherans:

"The Lutherans have until quite recently, and till today in Scandinavian lands, preserved communion kneeling and on the tongue."

Coming up: Communion in the hand destroys piety.

Communion in the Hand Results in Sacrilege: "Moto Mass Switzerland"

Ehhhh, Moto Mass

One Communicant even tried to get seven Hosts.

The Conciliar Church has thrown Holy Communion to the dogs: Now they must live with it.

(kreuz.net) A motorcyle blessing with Holy Mass will take place on the Simplon-Pass on the 1st of May.

The Pass connects the south-west Swiss Canton Wallis with Italy.

According to a report from the Swiss newspaper 'Blick', the occasion of the Motorcycle Friends is "almost holy already".
Moto Mass

It will be organized by the Moto-Club of Simplon and will have been taking place for its 25th occasion this year.

About 4500 bikers appear every year for the event.

In the past years there was a New Mass said by the Old Liberal homosexual ideologue, Pastor Charly Weissen.

Fr. Weissen likes to appear there as the top dog -- most of all in his bike gear.

He wears earrings and a handlebar mustache.

A natural consequence of Communion in the Hand

This years bicycle blessing happens "under a bad star" -- lamented 'Blick' yesterday.

This is because the secular priest, Paul Martone of Brig, celebrated the divine service last year -- and was appalled.

At the news daily, 'Walliser Bote' he called the affair an "unworthy spectacle".

Why?: Many cyclists received the Host with a cigarette between their fingers.

There was also alcohol being consumed during the Eucharistic celebration.

One visitor tried to get seven Hosts.

From these sacrileges, Father Martone drew his own conclusions and wants to be saying only a liturgy of the word.

But NO, the Legend must Continue

Actually, the Moto-Club Simplon has no such concern:

"For more than a thousand visitors the participation of a few people, don't rate to have themselves receive anything more than the highest Liturgy in the Church" -- said the club president appealingly for 'Blick'.

During the Service at Simplon, there's a 'disciplined quiet".

One request on the website of the Club made the point that over ninety percent of the members want a Mass.

For that reason the Club itself is seeking a willing priest.

He should be ready to give a simpl "Mass exhibition [sic]" on the Simplon.

The president will be heard to say, tellingly, that one is also desirous of a "supper".

Papal Mass: Communion in the Hand Refused

At this years Christmass Mass by Pope Benedict XVI the priests who were giving Communion refused communion in the hand.

[kreuz.net, Vatican]  At this years Midnight Mass in the St. Peter's Basilica, there was no hand communion.

Father Z at wdtprs.com from an Italian priest in Rome who wrote:

In a change to former practice, those distributing Holy Communion at the Holy Father’s Mass tonight were told that ‘at all Papal Masses Communion is to be given only on the tongue.’ The usual statement that Prelates receive in the same way as the Laity remained.
