Always interesting to read your posts. I've heard that the ICKSP is actually losing ground in France, not due to their own fault but due to hostile bishops, they've unfortunately been leaving some dioceses where they are no longer welcome. I hope the SSPX or at least someone can pick up the slack. France has tens of thousands of beautiful churches, they cannot all be allowed to go to waste.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4404498638452030181.post-64935069859659774312016-09-24T06:35:40.904-07:002016-09-24T06:35:40.904-07:00Despite "Pope" Francis and his cohorts, ...Despite "Pope" Francis and his cohorts, traditional Catholicism and traditional Orders are flourishing, and when he is gone, they will even more flourish.
A friend of mine just came back from the Summer in Europe. In addition to the standard sight-seeing/back-packing, he visited three monasteries/religious houses affiliated to the SSPX which are stable, growing, and a source of Catholic pride and devotion to our Catholic traditions.
One is a relatively new (1998) foundation(France) which is an attempt at re-capturing the Order of Grammont (Grammontine monks)....an Order which went extinct at the end of the French Revolution, but which was founded in the 11th century and flourished, mostly in France but also elsewhere in Europe and in England before the Reformation. They have their own rule, which is largely based on Benedictine principles, and are known locally as the "grey Benedictines" because of their habit. There are 18 professed monks, 2 novices and 4 new postulants. Of the 18 professed, 10 are lay-brothers(conversi), the others are choir monks(priests or seminarians). The Order operates in a former Norbertine abbey which has room for a community of 75.
The second house is a cloister of nuns, an attempt (also in France), to re-introduce traditional religious life in the Redemptoristine tradition in France. There are a few Redemptoristine houses in France, but all have discarded both the traditional habit and disiplines and are very aged communities. My friend was told by one of the nuns (there are 9 professed sisters, 2 novices and 2 postulants in the house), that thru all Europe, only 2-3 houses of the Redemptoristine nuns are flourishing (out of maybe 25 in Europe), and these have either changed very little since Vatican II, or have reverted back to tradition....although none wear the complete traditional habit as does this 1 house affiliated to the SSPX.
Lastly (in Germany of all places), he visited a community of traditional friars of the Franciscan Conventual tradition (OFM. Conv.) This is the newest of all the houses he visited (2006), but there are already 11 priests, 5 brothers, and 8 novices or postulants. A few Franciscan priests already in Germany and Switzerland who are sympathetic to tradition have left their liberal OFM. Conv. houses and joined this one in Germany(Bavaria).
So like the ICKSP (priests and also sisters), these groups are growing....and are not bound by the ridiculous new ruls of "Pope" Francis that anyone who wants to start a new Order has to appeal directly to the Vatican, rather than local Bishops as has always been done for centuries. It is an attempt to keep traditional movements and groups out.
So, pray for these groups, and be hopeful. Francis can't destroy Catholic tradition....beside the fact he'd have a revolution on his hands...God isn't blessing his initiatives. It's the opposite. Groups which might have appealed to the Pope are now finding support with the SSPX. Pray that the SSPX rejects Francis and his overtures of a "personal prelature".....because all the monks and friars my friend spoke to are against it. I think that is representative of most of the SSPX.
The ICKSP is growing greatly. Pray that the evil whims of Francis and his associates do not now go after them. The traditional Orders are the salvation of the Church....they are the only ones that are growing!
Damian Malliapalli
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4404498638452030181.post-86967623424297929172016-09-23T09:39:52.071-07:002016-09-23T09:39:52.071-07:00Indeed.
