Weeping Icon of Mary Weeps Drawing Many Visitors in Greece


 Athens (kath.net/KAP) A weeping icon of the Blessed Mother Mary in a church in Athens leads to a large number of visitors.  The image of Mary known as the "Virgin of Consolation" at Saint Dimitri in the Vyronas district wept for the first time at the liturgy for the feast of the Mother of God on September 8, as the Greek Orthodox Diocese of Kaisariani, Vyronas and Hymette announced. The miracle repeated itself in the following days and has attracted many people since then. According to information, the tears are a sign only for "believers". It means that the Mother of God supports and comforts them "just as she comforted and supported the apostles and other believers of the early Christian communities when Christians were persecuted and imprisoned," the statement said.  The church leadership does not provide a more detailed interpretation.

  3. I see two possible reasons for Her pain:

    1. Coming another Schism within the whole Christian World related to the emerging of false religion/false modernistic branch of Christianity.

    2. Approaching a war between Turkey and Greece... probably bloody war...

  6. The empty byre and the Son of Consolation
    I looked at some videos of the Weeping Holy Virgin in Byronas. It is clearly seen in this photo* that the streams of tears (or myrrh) do not obey the law of gravity. The stream from the right eye of Our Lady anoints her lips, while the stream from her left eye anoints the forehead of the Child.
    So far I have not been able to determine whether they are tears or myrrh. However, considering that it is happening in the church of Saint Demetrius of Thessalonica and his relics exude myrrh, I believe the Icon exudes myrrh and not tears.
    The miracle was observed on the feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary (September 8) while reading the Gospels: Luke 1: 39-49, 56; St. Paul's Letter to the Philippians 2: 5-11; Luke 10: 38-42, 11: 27-28. All these readings have a common theme: the handmaid of the Lord (Magnificat and Martha and Mary in Bethany) and the servant of the Lord (Christ). The Panagia of Byronas has myrrh on her lips as She sings the Magnificat, a prophecy that will be fulfilled only now at the end of time: "He has cast down the rulers from their throne and exalted the humble. He has supported his child Israel ..." This Child of Israel in the Icon has myrrh on the forehead, because He is an anointed One (Christ). Almost every believer will automatically say that this is our Lord Jesus Christ. However, when it is pointed out that it is Our Lady of Consolation**, then it can be said that it is the Son of Consolation, the second Comforter promised by the Lord Jesus. Last verses from these world readings [Luke 11: 27-28]: >>"Blessed is the womb that bore you, and the breasts that you sucked! " But he said, "Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!"<< confirm my thesis. The Second Comforter, Paraclete, is the Spirit of Truth from the Gospel [John 16: 12-15]: "I have yet many things to say to you: but you cannot bear them now. But when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will teach you all truth. For he shall not speak of himself; but what things soever he shall hear, he shall speak; and the things that are to come, he shall shew you. He shall glorify me; because he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it to you. All things whatsoever the Father hath, are mine. Therefore I said, that he shall receive of mine, and shew it to you."     **The cult of Our Lady of Consolation in the Roman Catholic Church is associated with Turin and therefore with Taurus (or bulls). Augustians worship Her on September 4, while the Benedictines on July 5, i.e. on the day of Saint Anthony Mary Zaccharia, founder of the Barnabits in Milan. The first bishop of Milan was Saint Barnabas the Apostle - the name 'Barnabas' means 'the Son of Consolation'. This coincidence is worth of fragrant myrrh.
