Pope Francis Names Theological Consultants for the Bishops' Synod

Eleven of the twelve consultants teach at papal or Catholic universities run by religious orders or research institutes in Rome.

Vatican City (kath.net/ KAP) Pope Francis has appointed twelve theological consultants for the General Secretariat of the Synod of Bishops on Saturday. There is one exception only to teachers at papal or Catholic universities run by religious orders or research institutes in Rome. In addition, there will be a member of the Pontifical Academy is also based in Rome at St. Thomas Aquinas. Most are represented by the Jesuit run Papal Gregorian University, with three consultants. Among them is the Rector of the University, Francois-Xavier Dumortier.

The new consultants will be involved in the preparation of the Annual Synod of Bishops on the family this coming autumn, also include the deputy head of the "Pontifical Institute of John Paul II For Studies on Marriage and Family," Jose Granados. In the context of the recent Synod of Bishops there was criticism that the Pope had not appointed a member of this prestigious research institution as a member of the Synod. The presumed reason is the conservative orientation of the institute. Granados had spoken on the occasion of the Synod of Bishops in a published article against a change in the official Church practice in dealing with divorced and remarried.

"Pope Francis has appointed twelve theological consultants for the General Secretariat of the Synod of Bishops on Saturday."

So the antichrist has chosen his twelve apostles now...

But to me the obvious question is why does he need "consultants" when he has all those cardinals already? The Vatican sure operates in a strange way. I'm thinking these appointing of these "consultants" must indeed be meant to be a evil mimicry of Jesus appointing the twelve apostles indeed.

But before the francis' era, wasn't there in Rome a renaissance court, a pope just like le Roi Soleil, and courtisans, spies, plotters, thieves and so on? Why does the boR need any other consultants, what kind of theology, Who am I to judge is the only axiom they know, they don't even know latin, once official language of the RCC, when pope Benedict read his resignation in latin none of the cardinals understood a single word.....don't insult our intelligence, we're not neanderthal. men, this is the beginning of last times, may the Holy Mother protect us.

Indeed! post-1958 goings-on inside the Vatican would leave Le Roi Soleil, Louis XIV, (aka 'the most Christian Turk'), embarrassed and also a little envious.

Edward Pentin over at National Catholic Register raises some doubts about these appointments. See his blog there.

When the laity are aware of the false premise, they will not fall for this ruse

Once a traditionalist or sedevacantist has an insight into all this Vatican Council II dramatically changes

I don't understand well: Is Granados included in this 12 consultants team, or not?

Jose Grenados teaches at the JPII Institute.

The "consultants" are to counteract the would-be effects of the book "Remaining in the Truth of Christ" in case someone tries to distribute it again and succeeds.

The Synod Fathers are like children.

The "false premise" you go on and on about has nothing to do with this one. That premise only affects ecumenism, not morality. Whether or not cases of "baptism by desire" and "invincible ignorance" can actually be known in the here and now has NOTHING to do with Bergoglio trying to declare homosexuality and concubinage to no longer be sins. You're simply in denial with your claims that Vatican II can be saved if you just reject this "false premise."

In fact, to make matter worse for your theory, this "Synod on the Family" is only connected to Vatican II in the sense that Vatican II created the framework which allows the Pope to call constant synods at the Vatican whenever he wants for whatever he wants. This page on the USCCB website about the Synod on the Family demonstrates how Vatican II made this possible:

"What is the Synod of Bishops? The Synod of Bishops is a permanent institution of the Catholic Church. It was established by Pope Paul VI in 1965, shortly after the close of the Second Vatican Council, to continue the spirit of collegiality and communion that was present at the Council. The Synod is an assembly of bishops from around the world who assist the Holy Father by providing counsel on important questions facing the Church in a manner that preserves the Church's teaching and strengthens her internal discipline. (See the Vatican website. . . and Code of Canon Law. . . , canon 342) When does the Synod of Bishops meet? The Synod of Bishops meets at the request of the Holy Father, when he considers it necessary or opportune to consult with the world's bishops. What is an Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops? A General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops is called 'Ordinary' if its topic is 'for the good of the universal Church' and seems to require the 'learning, prudence and counsel' of all the world's bishops (Ordo Synodi Episcoporum. . . , 4). What is an Extraordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops? A General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops is called 'Extraordinary' when it is convened to deal with matters 'which require a speedy solution' (Code of Canon Law. . . , canon 346 §2) and which demand 'immediate attention for the good of the entire Church' (OSE. . . , 4)."

So Vatican II, or its aftermath, created a standing Synodal body which the Pope can convene at any time on a whim, either in Ordinary or Extraordinary form. And he has convened this "Synod on the Family" as an Extraordinary Synod, meaning he wants to ram through this legislation in a hurry like Obama and the Democrats: "We have to pass the bill before we can know what's in the bill."

How does rejecting your "false premise" fix this problem exactly, @CatholicMission?

Also, as to false premises, the false premise that keeps the spirit of Vatican II going is the false premise from Vatican I, namely the heresy of papal infallibility. You can't get rid of the abuses and heresies of Vatican II because the Pope says Vatican II is all good and the Pope was declared infallible by a previous heretical council, Vatican I. So Vatican I's heresy is worse than Vatican II's because its heresy upholds Vatican II's heresy.
